  • Quick lil video today on proper form when pushing a skateboard or a longboard! Use less energy for farther rides!!
    This can be used on any types of boards, so that includes skateboards, longboards, cruiser boards, surfskates...ANYTHING! As long as it has a deck and wheels, this should work.

      glad you like it! I also sometimes get pain in my top foot, and the two things I can say about that would be 1. Your shoes might not be supporting your foot properly...This is why for longer rides I'll wear running shoes over skate shoes because the support keeps my feet from getting tired, and 2. learning how to ride both ways (left and right foot forwards) can help this alot because you can switch out your front foot when one is getting a little tired :)
      Hope this helps!

      I have had also pain. Your muscles need to get used to this kind of excercise. Shoes and proper pushing will also help. Use hole foot,start with heel,end with toes. And needless to say,if starts to hurt,stop.Rest,start tomorrow. Eat-skate-sleep-repeat :D

      @Rudy Vergara I’ve heard that many skateboarders like using Jordan’s for skating, so maybe some basketball shoes can work? In my experience using skateboard specific shoes or running shoes have worked the best.
      Also many ppl have told me that buying some custom shoe inserts can do wonders but I haven’t yet tried this!

    I've been skating for a few years and my front foot always hurt after an hour or so. I thought it's because of all the peter pans and stuff but no, it's only from pushing, and I can push switch too so both hurt feet hurt. LOL
    So one day I had a random chat with this jogger on the beach and he told me the correct way to run or jog is to land on heels first and rock forward. But all this time I thought you're supposed to land on the balls of your foot was a bad habit. Since then I used the heel to toe method and no more pain. So if you're slapping the balls of your foot to the ground to push and it hurts, try heel to toe.

    • @rhyslikesthis416
      @rhyslikesthis416 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That's bizarre. I run and every runner I've ever met says that landing on your heel is a fast track to injury. I can't say if it's the same for skating though, if it's worked for you that's great.

      99% chance you need to develop your glutes and your posterior chain. You may have a valgus fault (about 60% of people with knee issues in my practical experience) it is possible you may have a quad imbalances. Knees over toes guy can help with quad imbalances. Maybe you have damage, but honestly most knee issues are fixed by dealing with posterior and quad imbalances.

    Only pushing with your forefoot puts more strain on your feet and ankles. Rolling over from the heel to the forefoot is a natural motion for the body since it mimics walking.

  •  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice, I'm trying your technique thanks

  • @coolbrotherf127
    @coolbrotherf127 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The best way to think about it is to imagine how people run. People don't run with their feet flat or take small steps. Making sure to strike the ground with the ball of your foot to get the most effective push off is really important to going fast. Many beginners use their entire foot to stay more balanced, but it's really hard to get good leverage like that. Using the ball of your foot allows your leg to act as a natural spring force to launch you forward without much effort, just the same as the way a sprinter would run fast.

    I'm a beginner longboarder and I've been feeling this horrible leg pain, like in the joint of my hips with the right leg. Watching your video made me realize the obvious. My bad posture is the cause of the pain, and not only that, but also cuz I only use my right foot to push. :( The way I see it I can fix it by
    1. riding less often
    2. pushing correctly (more speed = less pushing) and
    3. using both right and left feet to push (I tried pushing with left one and almost broke my butt when fell on it LOL)
    In the end I just lack skill and technique, my body pays the price 😓
    I'd appreciate it any other tips!

    Anyways, thx for the pushing tips!

    • @OgdenSikel
      @OgdenSikel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think so! Your drop hammer should be fine for pumping as long as your trucks are loose enough! Mainly because the concave is pretty good on this board so it will make turning sharper and faster, therefore a super flexy board isn't absolutely necessary.

    I know this is late but I want to share this because I discovered this the hard way over the course of a few years but I've been pushing wrong skateboarding the entire time.
    So the biggest thing I learned about pushing is you don't want to strike the ground and push it away from you, you want to gently put your foot down and push. I learned this the hard way because I would notice this pain in the front of my shin after pushing for a while. The easiest way to describe this is basically think about when you first push off your board from stationary. When you first go to push and you're standing still, front foot on the board, you push off with the foot on the ground obviously but what's not obvious is that you're not striking the ground when doing that. You're pushing off of your planted foot. That should be the same motion for when you're rolling, you don't want to hit the ground with your foot and push away, you want to gently put your foot on the ground (think like braking with one foot how you have to do that smoothly) and then push off of that in that same motion.
    It'll save your legs and give you way better pushes, it's harder to do but once you get it right you'll thank yourself.

    Any tips for dealing with vibrations making front foot tire out really fast?

    • @OgdenSikel
      @OgdenSikel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The best tip would be to learn how to ride switch so that you can switch out what foot is in front when you get tired. Obv. this isn't the easiest thing cuz it'll take a month or two of practice (it did for me), but it really pays off.
      Other than that, bigger wheels (diameter and width-wise) really help knock out vibrations, and also, although relatively uncommon, you could buy some foam griptape (layer of foam under the sandpaper grip) to help, but this prolly isn't necessary.

    • @dustmemory9891
      @dustmemory9891 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Felix The cat That makes sense but the wheels I'm using are already pretty soft (80a orag stimulus). I've found that once I'm warmed up and if I just skate a lot in general it's not so bad but Im wondering if there is anything else I could do.

    I normally do a one legged squat and go lower when I want to ride faster. Sort of.

    I push with my toe and that makes my pushing foot hurts, what am I doing wrong?

      try pushing with the balls of your feet....or you might just need more supportive shoes/inserts. OR, you just gotta keep riding and build up your foot muscles!

    I'm not even gonna watch this because all u have to do is act like your sprinting to answer your title, 😂one sprint and or push gets u approximately 30 or more ft based off of your sprint/push form or good bearings.

      What's your point? Is there some specific way "regular" skaters push off? From a Penny to a Pintail, a board is a board.
