A garden is a complex place, especially in autumn, but the composer decided to fix his (our) attention to changing details or local aspects rather than to the garden seen and understood as a whole. Needless to say, using the so-called "gagaku" small orchstra deeply roots this composition in the Japanese tradition and culture.

武満徹がなぜ雅楽を許されたか、それは分からない。けれども、この作曲が一流で演奏は超一流なのは確かだ。越天楽はとうてい超えないが、並みの雅楽の歌曲よりは良いと思う。
