I've made something kind of similar. I take a full sheet of 1x2.5" labels and instead of printing on them, I use distress ink to add various tones, then layer on stamped images. So it's like your pink paper in the end. I can then just peel of labels as I need for random ephemera or cover spots etc. So decorate the white plain lable side like a large master board.

I love your ‘washi’ tapes, Tina! They turned out so good!!! I just want to share real quick - my favorite ‘washi’ tape (or fauxshi 😂😂😂) that I made was from my ‘fail’ gelli prints on deli paper that I had stamped. The weight and somewhat translucent appearance of the deli paper actually worked very well. I cut it into strips, rolled it around a clothespin for storage, and I apply it with glue stick when I’m ready to use it. Those ugly gelli prints - who knew?

Washi police, back of your stitching police, etc etc etc…..what’s wrong with people? There’s a pandemic, global warming, war looming and we need police watching over what gives us pleasure and time out from worrying? I don’t think so. Tina, you’re a one woman wonder, you keep me smiling bless you, even when things are hard for you. Much love as always xx

I love your idea making faux washi tape. Such fun projects today. I'm amazed at your cutting skills. I would need to use my rotary cutter to make these faux tapes. You reminded me I also need some cheese cloth and burlap to add to my stash. Wonderful tutorial! Matte medium works even better than Mod Podge! Has no shiny surface. Can use matte medium as glue also to apply your scraps directly to most paper surfaces.
In fact, you could cut strips of your papers, link them together with matte medium, (or GEL medium if the paper is heavier) and then glue them down with matte medium (or GEL medium) in your journal, on cards, etc. That way you can bypass the double stick paper all together, if you want to save money on double stick paper.
If you like the convenience of the double stick paper, you can go ahead and use it anyway, and still use matte medium (or GEL medium for heavier weight paper) to attach papers and then the handmade washi tape.
Liquitex makes both matte medium and gel medium. There are also other brands.
    Hope this helps a bit!
Thank you for the great tutorial!

i love to make painty papers and i love to make gel prints - many times i have taken those prints - added some stamping and stenciling and made them into washi tape - i use double sided carpet tape - i looks like masking tape - about 1" wide - i put strips onto the backs of the papers and cut them into 1/4" or 1/2" strips - but now i also like what you did because you can really cut it to the size you need - even punch out shapes from it - thank you Tina - this was fun to watch and you had no problems lol 🤣it all went down nice and easy - be well 🤗

If you want a good way to stick down your paper to the sticky surface, figure out the grain of the paper (the direction in which it bends most easily, bend it gently into a bit of a "U" shape, stick the center down first, then lower down the edges. It might not be perfectly lined up at the edges, but is unlikely to have bubbles. Not that you got bubbles, so your method worked fine too. Great idea and tutorial!

  • @gladysward6969

I like Mod Podge, too. Making Washi strips works well because buying commercial Washi is a waste when you maybe like one roll in a set. You can also use ink stamps as an alternative. I will certainly be making more of these, so TFS, Tina, stay safe. 💝💝💝

Thought the bow made it a bit garish, (sorry I’m a survivor of my mom’s decorating. Oh double sided sticky sheets? U have some somewhere lol. I've never made washi like this before (I usually make it with printed or stamped tissue paper or napkins with double sided tape). You could also decorate the paper side of one per page label sheet. Someone told you off? 🙈. Wow, who cares if it's not 'by the book'. 'real' washi is expensive for what it is! Oh lol, you thought of the napkin 🙊 I haven't mod podged it before. Gorgeous napkin😍. Your painty background is cool 😍😍. I bet this sticks better than washi! Sounds satisfying to cut! You can also use glitter instead of paper 😍. Colour matching can be a pain in the bum 🙈. Storing uncut would be easier too. Cool ideas! Tfs and have a great day 💖💖

Suggestion as an alternative - If you have a printer that includes a scan feature: Use one-sided sticky paper, (peel off backing is only on the back side - I use clear mail label, actually 8 1/2 x 11, available in all office supply stores and on line too).
I scan the print/pattern paper etc that I want to use, Then I print my scanned print onto the "clear" label front side. It still has the peel office backing just on the back side and then when I cut into strips, stored them. When ready to use a strip or cut to whatever size I want,
I then remove the paper backing and it is ready to stick to your project. This reduces the amount of thickness of your finished tape and it has more of a "washi" feel, as you end up with a clear tape with print on the front side and no extra card stock or paper to add to the thickness.

Fun idea and great appearance! Suggestion: maybe use your graph lines underneath your glass tabletop, to mark with a device, the points of vertical and horizontal corners in order to cut a 90 degree cut. I also like the idea of yours to use hole punch sticky tabs to protect the holes that you punch out! Question: have you thought about using a dowel to create your closing tabs and using a thicker cardboard for it, resulting in more stability and longevity?

Just beautiful, Tina. Lovely ideas. Thank you. Hope you’re doing well and taking care of yourself. So sorry you’ve had a tough time lately. ❤🤗 PS did you remove the inner plys of the serviette?

I will have to try making homemade washi tape. I love the idea. Yours turned out beautiful. Love it. Oops need to buy double sided paper. Have none. I do have wide double sided tape. Wonder if that would work.

I use this method with paper napkins it feels more like washi tape because it's thinner than paper ......tfs🌹

I wonder if it's possible to run transparent contact paper through an inkjet printer. I feel like this would look like washi tape if it works 🤷🏽‍♀️

I made washi tape last weekend using napkins and double sided tape in different widths. I find the tape thinner than the double sided paper. I am going to try the Modge Podge next time.

Double sided tape is definitely a great way to make washi tape. Have fun with your mod Podge, it really does just finish it with that slightly shiny surface like washi tape has x

I love watching you craft...please don't be offended...but if you soaked and cleaned your stamps you would get a better result..they don't need more ink they need the old dried built up ink removed....I know this because I was doing the same thing....try one just to see for yourself....thanks for all the great crafting

Why not call it shabbi tape? Or doodah tape? That's not you "claiming" it, it's you differentiating it from "washi".
