Dawn at the cottage - a morning for slow living and simple pleasures

  • There's nothing quite like the stillness of the morning before the sun rises followed by the sounds of the birds waking with the sun :) I hope you enjoy these moments of calm at the cottage, while I prepare water kefir, as well as forage some rose hips for rose hip tea :)
    Kefir recipe:
    - Dissolve 25g sugar in 250ml water (not warmer than 28-29 degrees celcius)
    - Add kefir grains to the water
    - Allow to ferment for 24-48 hours
    - Fruit/herbs can then be added, the water kefir bottled, and the mixture left to ferment for another 24-48 hours.
    Be careful to avoid using metal when working with the kefir, and you may need to burp your glass bottles once you've bottled your kefir to avoid any potential kefir explosions :)
    Rose hip tea
    -Dry or fresh rose hips can be steeped in hot water for several minutes before straining and drinking.
    -You can mash the fresh rosehips to make brewing the tea easier
    - One can also use dry rosehips to make tea
