      I was born in eastern Europe. I lived in the US as a perm resident, in Germany later on as a citizen, and in NZ for the last nearly 3 decades.
      The best medical system I have encountered, by far, bar none, was in the US.
      NZ's medical system should really be renamed Murder Inc.
      My father already fell victim to it over a decade ago.
      My mother any day now. And me? Soon. Very soon.

    I read on stuff today that Pharmac have been directed to “stay within their budget” and although the Health Minister denies this means any cuts in practice it means they are limiting supply to $347000 a day and not being flexible at all - effectively “ working to rule”!I suppose and it is causing shortages for everyone.

    • @hbaykiwi
      @hbaykiwi 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To expand on this
      Pharmac sticking to their budget is one of the key reasons why we get such cheap drugs in NZ.
      Drug companies bid to supply pharmac and knowing that pharmac have a specific budget to stick to is something that drives prices down. Drug companies know they need to bid low and win the pharmac contract otherwise they wont be selling much of their product in NZ.
      Pharmac is designed to get the many common drugs to new zealanders at a cheap price, but not to cover everything.

    • @minnowx7099
      @minnowx7099 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@hbaykiwi This is not to do with the contract - this is after they have it. They are restricting supply because they are being pressured to account on a daily budget rather than being able to scale up or down depending on demand. Micomanagement is never an effective way of managing and leads to the situation we are now in where the medicine people need is unavailable due to an artificial constraint - a disguised budget cut in effect

    I love you two. ❤ I am desperate to move to New Zealand, I was there with my husband in 2011, and have wanted to move there ever since. We took our young children there last year, and it solidified it even stronger. However, I'm not sure my husband will get as good a job out there and we would be leaving family behind. I'm happy to leave them😂, but think my husband and kids would miss them greatly. Your videos always give me hope and makes me feel like I'm there again. You are the kind type of person that would be very welcome here. My sister left here at 22 to go to England for the work opportunities. She is currently a news producer for the BBC. Her and her English husband (he sets up the satellite trucks for BBC) did think about coming back to live here when they had my nephew and niece but they both wouldn't of been able to find equivalent jobs and the pay would be worse. When I was teaching I came across a lot of families that came to live in New Zealand and there were a few reasons as follows. Chinese people wanted to have more than one child. South African's for safety and lifestyle. Asians in general for education. Americans and some European countries for the way of life. I guess you will need to look at the benefits of living in New Zealand compared to your home country. Liz and Brian are brilliant at looking at both the pros and cons and the little nuances we have. To me they fit perfectly it's as if they were accidentally born in the wrong country. I wish you and your loved ones all the best whether you make the move or not. 😊❤

    American living in NZ for the past 14 years and I had a similar experience at the pharmacy the other day, being asked to pay $5 for a prescription that I had been getting for free. Seems the new govt got rid of the free prescriptions as of 1 July. Also, some prescriptions have been in short supply so they reduce how much they dispense at a given time.

    We completely agree that if you want some private time in a public place, it's okay to nicely ask someone to leave us alone. The American handled it very politely and nicely. Good for him!👍
    The story with the supermarket young lad is interesting. We think he might be underage and therefore not allowed to serve or sell alcohol, which is why he asked his supervisor.🤔 He probably didn't realize it was vinegar! 😜
    Medication shortages seem to be a global issue. 🙉We’ve had some shortages in Canada as well. My pharmacist had to find a perfect replacement, and thankfully, I have one now.

    Love you stories. As a NZer born and bred and well travelled there are two reasona we run out of pharmaseuticals periodically - 1) Only ONE container of X drug is ordered per YEAR for the country. Normally it arrives in Spring, and by mid Winter the following year it has run out. (I kid you not) 2) The financial year means that the govt cant order the next container till after 30 June (hence the Spring arrival three months later.) There are only 5m of us, two containers would be overkill and are not budgeted for in the govt health budget. Moreover major international pharmaceutical companies have a long - several years - lead time - they do not supply emergency shipments.)..
    NZ is a long way away, most goods ( CERTAINLY anything bought by the govt) arrives by sea. Lots more chances of containers being late.
    On a similar note did you realise that this year, 2024, there was no oral morphine in the country AT ALL for the first six months (so tough if you needed it) because the one and only factory that makes it in Australasia (Perth) shut down a while back and there were delays in the build of a new one, (As a special concession at usurious cost a different overseas supplier did agree to sell us some,, but the govt could only get enough for the sickest and the emergency supply did not make it to the provinces anyway.
    Moral of the story, don't get sick in Winter, Cheers Rosie

I got the last box from our pharmacy last month (coromandel peninsula region)and this month they said I could have some pills(on the doctors say so) then they said hang on we have these patches(larger dose)you just have to cut them into quarters😂So I’ve got both at the moment. HRT: yeah it's short everywhere. Pharmacy companies are merging overseas and pulling out of the market. Pharmac has not been on the ball to organise alternatives when possible. The issue with HRT is that it seems only one brand is making all the HRT NZ imports and that company is not making enough for the world.
    It does not help that the amount of medicine Pharmacists can get of this type seems to be throttled. They know when people will want repeats, but they never have any in their stocks. This means Pharmacies are getting tight with repeats; if you have more than a few days of a medicine, they will not fill the script! I've had to beg at the counter.
    You may need to switch off patches to get continuity. See what your GP says.
    There is a list on the Pharmac website of supply issues and medicine discontinuations. Keep a close eye on this if you are on prescription medicine.

People under 20 aren't allowed to sell alcohol so he had to clear it through his supervisor also they have to have like a alcohol duty manager on at all times or they cant sell it at all. Also somewhere near the checkout they have to display the name of the duty manager. Basically anymore over 20 who works there sits an exam gets a certificate. One of them has to be on duty or they're not allowed to sell alcohol. Still funny though.

I'd thought no one had the right to speak up or object but gradually I've learned to do it myself. It's a lot of money to pay for a dreadful meal and they're meant to be professional.

    I agree with your daughter. That was mean. How hard is it to take 5 minutes of your life to show kindness to a harmless person, who is trying to make people’s life better by playing them a song.

      Agree. It will be someone with a disability, why can’t we be kind. Direct does work with these members of our community. But they want to be included not rejected.
