So many try to or use mental illness to get shorter sentences or to be in psychiatric units which are more comfortable to serve their sentence in. If they are not mentally ill and many are shown not to be then they are simply adding to the stigma that people with MH issues are violent or killers, which is not true. So to suggest that she should have been sent to a psych ward adds to the stigma and what of those who are genuinely mentally ill on the psych wards having to have murderers living with them? No, she is bad not mad and for all that she did and all the heartbreak she caused and the loss of a beautiful young life, it is her guilt and not the guilt of those who suffer from genuine MH issues/illnesses, who are stigmatised further and feel deeply when others believe they are all 'murderers and dangerous' . i’ve just read an article about caroline’s release where rachel’s mum asked for her not to be harassed. she said she doesn’t think caroline is a threat to her family, but maybe to someone else. she also said that caroline should be grateful she lives in a place where she gets to live her life. what a truly amazing person rachel’s mum is not to curse her out & wish her the worst. which would have been my reaction.

hey i'm sorry you experienced that. i also suffered from bullying when i was a teen and i totally agree with you that it shouldn't be an excuse to be shitty, especially since she refused therapy. but I don't think it was being used as an excuse here, it was just presented to share what possibly lead Caroline to deteriorate to such a state where she could commit such a crime, and i think that's really important too. like of course not all killers come from shitty households/childhoods and vice versa, but i think we'd have less killers and criminals if the cycle of abuse wasn't continued. i hope you're in a better place now and i really hope we could do more to ensure that bullying and abuse isn't passed on to the next generations.

I've met Caroline Reid. Her mother is a friend of family. The first and only time I saw her I was about 7 or 8 (now almost 33 so this was around 1996-1997. She was having a full blown tantrum and screaming at her mother telling her how much she hated her and how she wished her mother was dead. I was terrified, beyond that I was actually petrified of this young lady. It was said that we'd caught them at a bad time and we promptly left. Caroline Reid should not have EVER been allowed out of prison, her own family live in fear of her and as for "Who moved poor Rachels body", why has nobody ever investigated Caroline's father? She is an evil human being, she left prison basically with Rachel's hair colour and even managed to obtain green contacts just to make things more twisted. In fact those 2 words sum her up, oh she hates herself, oh she got bullied. So What?! I got bullied you didn't see me tormenting and murdering 15 year old girls at 20 and telling my mother I wished that she's dead. I met her once and have had continual nightmares so I can't even imagine what Rachel's family are going through as well as Caroline's family, the dads sketchy as but her mother and sisters are truly beautiful people. Caroline turned out sick, twisted, manipulative and evil and as I stated apart from her dad who I have never met but strongly believe after studying this case since it began when I was 11 was involved in Rachels burial, the rest of her family are good people and they shouldn't have to suffer because Caroline is a sick f*** no other way to put it, she needs to still be in jail and I feel like the justice system failed the Barber family terribly in so many different ways, honestly the fact that beautiful young lady with her entire bright future died for nothing and her murderer is now walking freely on the streets just makes me sick. My heart bleeds for them because there was a time they trusted that girl and she completely destroyed their lives like a wrecking ball, the whole situation is just awful and infuriates me to this day. Caroline Reid, if you're reading this you're a f***ing monster, burn in hell.

Right away, I thought that the job that Rachel said she got had something to do with her disappearance. It just didn't seem right. And that the whole thing where she said she was sick and kept taking days off was very weird too. Then the part where her father visited her and the whole time he was there, she had the door locked. Is it just me but I personally think that even if a child has runaway, they should still be searched for! ITS A CHILD!!
100%
Pretty much, my first thought would be, what made that child runaway..
There are not enough resources in any police station to warrant this. All the police would be used up on run away children. Pretty much every "missing" child report we used to get at the Police station was a kid hiding at a mates place due to a fight with a Parent etc. We got so so many of these a day. They should have however acted quicker than they did in this case. You cant act straight away though. Its just not fesable
"all teenagers come back within 48hrs" that's a disgusting response ,, and is just a generalized opinion of all teenagers. ffs that police department is disappointing, their job is to protect people and they clearly couldn't do that at all. a whole mess
I'm so confused about this statement because i thought the first 48 hours were the most important in searching for a missing person
It really is bc during those 48 hours Rachel was already gone. So unfortunate ☹️
@@paulinab6619 honestly they are the most important part of a missing persons case but the police disregarded Rachel as if she didn't matter. It's all too sad that she was sadly gone already 💜
@Alpha F yo chill im aware of the brutality which occurs worldwide you just sound very immature. in my opinion all brutality is equal to an extent. either way a child died and the crime was horrendous. i feel as if you're taking light of the events which took place and it's not appropriate so move along. yes people suffer worldwide. im well aware, thank you for making your point. perhaps you could respond more accordingly next time and not excessively use caps lock.

I get that she hated her life but why kill Rachel? She did nothing to her. Like killing her was going to make her life better? She needs major help as well as serving her time.
Di Cuteness jealousy..Rachel was all she couldn’t be
Alpha F calm down dude
Di Cuteness envy. Jealousy. Especially how she made all these lists on how Rachel was so perfect and talented. She wanted everything Rachel had. Those urges of wanting something you can have can make you crazy. Jealousy and envy can make you crazy.
Because she's crazy.
Yep and i bet she never received any kind of rehabilitation while she was in prison. If she killed one and just got a slap on the hand, she will probably do it again

I’m thinking maybe Caroline somehow convinced her not to tell anyone 🤔
Amber Cleary or at least write it down and left it on a visible place
The fact that Caroline is considered a “free person” right now is just sickening, she’s only 34 or 35 years old, so she can still meet someone and get married (don’t know who’d wanna marry a psycho killer) and have kids (I’d feel bad for them) or travel the world and ultimately she gets to have her life back, and we have Rachel, who’s forever 15 years old and will never get that opportunity bc of Caroline, that baffles me, how Caroline can do anything with her life and Rachel was never given that opportunity
She is a lesbian now and she lives with a woman who was convicted of armed robbery and they begin dating behind bars in the same prison they met while they served their sentences
Right now she's 40/41. She killed her in 1999 when she was 19.

Imagine thinking, an old friend is paying you easy money for something so simple. Only to feel being strangled. Terrifying and heartbreaking. So sad :'(
that's what's so crazy about this to me! just to think about how confused and terrified she was bc it's not like she was meeting up a sketchy old man she met thru the internet or something, where you could at least suspect the possibility of something going wrong.
and the fact that it could literally happen to anyone is crazy. she was simply meeting with an old friend like many of us do.
and the fact that the store w the shoes held them for her because she told everyone about them because she was excited ugh it makes me so sad she had such a bright future.
