Happy Thanksgiving Beau. I carry a hard plastic trowel with me just so I don't have to use my hands to dig out the holes. I can hold a pile of dirt in it and put that in front of the search coil. Saves on the cut up fingers. 😊👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Amen, I would never do that digging with bare hands like he does...not to mention the sharp metal, glass and poison ivy/oak! Been detecting for 35 years myself.
@@tomwilliams8675 Well, about 28 of those years we were raising our two sons, their sports, etc. so not much detecting then. But now my wife and I have free roam...and we do. I live in northern WV so we only had a few civil war battles and very little pre 1800 sites. Best of luck!
Thanks chigg, for the Thanksgiving adventure. Was nice to set down an enjoy after a great dinner. Great video chigg. I'm with you on the weird mushroom, never seen that type of mushroom either. As always safe an happy hunting/digging. 😁👍👍🦃
Well this is the way I spent my Thanksgiving Metal detecting. Some people watch videos but by some people take a nap I like to go metal detecting for a couple hours. Won’t be long the ground will be frozen Michigan. In the season will be over
There is nothing better than being in the woods, but I was thinking Chigg should maybe get a drone so we get a overview of the places he's going into. Granted we don't want to give away our good sites. Just a thought.
As always, loving you bringing us on your adventures! I've never metal detected before but I'm considering getting a rookie detector over the holidays. My in-laws live on an 1800's homesite/farm/mill, have lived there for over 30 years, and they think metal detecting the property would be fun. Definitely gotta go with a more inexpensive detector as I don't know what kind of detecting I'd do other than their property, and I'm a broke wildlife ecologist, but I'm kinda committed to this idea. Anyone have tips for reputable/decent detectors on a budget? No need for lots of bells and whistles, haha!
I have a Garrett AT Gold and an AT Pro both are great machines. I bought them on EBay a few years ago at different times. I find them very reliable and for the money I paid half the cost of new. I live in Ontario Canada and can only metal detect about 7 months of the year. I would recommend a Garrett machine to be adequate for your needs. I hope you find something cool!
First I ever heard of Tombac so I copied and pasted what it consists of, hope you don't mind. Wikipedia: Tombac Tombac, as it is spelled in French, or tombak, is a brass alloy with high copper content and 5-20% zinc content. Tin, lead or arsenic may be added for colouration. It is a cheap malleable alloy mainly used for medals, ornament, decoration and some munitions. In older use, the term may apply to brass alloy with a zinc content as high as 28-35%.
Hey Chigg. Can you ask your wife a Vet question? My 4-5 month old cat ate a couple roaches after we bug bombed the house, now he walks like your Bobbi Wobbles! Will the poision ever work its way out of his nervous system, seeing as he's a bit older than your Bobbi Wobbs @ time of exposure? When are you coming to Louisiana, again? ♥︎♥︎♥︎ the history education on the artifacts you find!
The great outdoors! Love the videos! Believe others are correct on the 17 brass. I was thinking 22bird shot. But they have crimp lines on them. But I believe that the heavy hoe was indeed a tool for hueing logs. Let's find some sink holes!👏
@4:40 if its necked down and is about the same size cartridge as a 22mag, thats gonna be a .17HMR. Its a fast little turd! 20 grain bullet going at 3,500fps I think! Of course there's different varieties that are lighter and faster, heavier and slower...
The shell casing was .17 yep a newer round. But those buttons sure make it worth a good look! 👍 Happy Thanksgiving to you and Mrs! And the whole Chiggs Army!👋
I just bought the Garrett At-pro and I haven't used it yet.. Have you ever used the At-pro and will it pick up small gold. I bought the complete package that was on sale and it came with the Garrett Carrot..
Well sir do you know about mapr internet website? It's a site where you can find a lot of old maps. Sites like that can help you in locating old buildings, homesites and etc.
The AT Pro is a wonderful machine. You should not have any regrets.... I myself use my AT Pro in certain places and use my Minelab 600 in other places. Just personal preference I would say.
Chigg your goin to find that bag of gold coins one of these days I believe that if you do you owe me just one of them that’s all I want just one small one lollllll
17mm for prairie dogs? Poor little critters... wouldn't be much left after that! I'm also just teasing! You mean 17 caliber, though. 17mm would be huge! That'd quite a bit bigger than .50BMG! .50BMG is 12.7mm.
Hey Chigg that is a 17 HMR. Casing
Or a 22 hornet they have a necked down casing too
That’s exactly what I was thinking. Maybe a 17 win super mag.
I hope you like the video!

17 Winchester Magnum Rimfire (17WMR) case or an older 5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum.

That first cartridge case looked like it could be an old 5mm Remington rimfire . They were popular with turkey hunters.
Beautiful

What brand and model detectors would you recommend?
Chigg I was wondering why you never use the atpro. I bought one this year and I feel like I'm regretting it. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Wish you would of shown what you found at the end of your video.
I think those mushrooms eventually pop open to look like regular mushrooms.
Necked down could be 17 hmr or 5mm mag
6mm remington
@@williamcrawford7982 not if it was a rimfire. 6mm is centerfire.
Happy Thanksgiving
There are bottle dumps guess the tobacco barn is over 100 years its tree framed.
Those mushrooms in your video are stink horns look similar to a morel not edible 😊
The fired case is .17 hmr

The first casing is a .17 HMR
Dont eat the puffball mushrooms lol
17 HMR CARTRIDGE ..... it’s a rimfire round
Just wonder, how do u get your hands and clothes clean? You quite often did with your hands then when you find
when you find something you rub it on your pants to clean it off and you dig with hands how do you get them clean LOL
If it's a Centerfire it is a .22 Hornet shell
Looks like a 223 or 5.56 Chigg
With all the metal detecting that you do have you ever found meteorites?
We've recovered around 400,000 from the houses.
You found a .17 HMR fire casing.
Hey Chigg and Todd if he’s there to
Just watched it. Love those Tombacs don’t you? Oh yeah.
Alt OSHO@Home says its ok to lick rando mushrooms when out in nature.

What is the story about oyster shells?
The casing is17hmr
17 hmr

When you find an unknown mushroom do not cook it.., Test it out by eating it (one) raw..
👍
.17 HMR casing
That's a 5 mm Remington they haven't made that gun or cartridge in about 25 years or longer.
17 mm for long distance shots like prairie dog hunting
17mm for prairie dogs? Poor little critters... wouldn't be much left after that!
I'm also just teasing! You mean 17 caliber, though.
17mm would be huge! That'd quite a bit bigger than .50BMG! .50BMG is 12.7mm.
17 HMR
22 long rifle
17 hmr varmit casing, sir
