    How to fix/repair a Honda Transalp CDI. The problem on these units are bad solder joints. It's a good idea to solder all joints when you first have opened it.

    I have a Yamaha out in the workshop with a duff CDI - I kinda knew the fix, but it is good to see someone affirm the fix - a new CDI for the bike is silly money/or a dodgy Chinese knock-off version, either or - so repair is preferable. Thank you for the video Sir.

    Was struggling with no-spark issue on my 98-dominator! Tried this, and got a spark again! Going to re-solder the whole board, and install it.
    Takk for tipset!

    I have no spark in one side off the spark plug amd the bike doesn't start could it be cdi to

    Not always it works , sometimes electronic components fails after a while when they heat up (after short ride bike fails on one cylinder ) . Then only exchange left because digging all that rubber between is annoying and there are also hybrid boards inside which might be destroyed easily during digging . XL600V CDI 87 might be exchanged by 89 -95 - just need to ground side stand switch, usually 89-95 year cdi are cheaper .

      Hello, i have a 88 Transalp and no side stand switch. Wanted to try a chinese cdi. Does not work. Do i have to jump some wires maybe? Thanks

    • @w_sp996
      @w_sp996 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@helmut-h.8938 There are also pulse generators must be grounded at one side to work correctly with 89 cdi. I spent some time before I doscovered that.

    • @w_sp996
      @w_sp996 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It requires some thinking and cables changing . Old model have two pulse generators completly independent from ground , 2 wires/ pulse gen. Connected directly to cdi , newer - one side is grounded ( i do not remeber - outside cdi or inside cdi , probably outside - See wiring diag.)

    Thanks a million for sharing! I did this on my Honda 9.9 outboard engine and it worked like a charm. I was a bit heavy on the hacksaw though and managed to cut a couple of lines on the edge of the pcb. But after repairing that and re-soldering all solder joints it runs as good as new. 😍

    I am running on one cylinder now, and i suspect its the CDI... I will check compression of the piston, and inspect the cylinder with an endoscope. If the compression is good, and there are no scratches in the cylinder. I will do this to my CDI. This should fix it. :D
    Thank you!

    Jeff

      Mine only does it (runs on one cylinder) after about a 30km+ ride. It then runs perfectly once cooled down, only to do the same thing after another 30km+ ride. Some say it's the regulator/rectifier that gets too hot as it's mounted directly above the exhaust.

    • @jeffjefferson2676
      @jeffjefferson2676 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DaveZee01 Well then try some other place. It should be under the tank, or the seat, i believe.

    how can you tell a solder contact is bad

    • @Italjohn
      @Italjohn  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's usually a tiny black ring around the components legs. But these cdi units are so bad you need to solder all points.

    • @Italjohn
      @Italjohn  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you watch closely you will see that there is a thin line (black) around the soldering joint. This is a crack in the joint and this makes a bad connection.

    Thanks so much! Have a transalp 600V. Starts well and runs well except it sometimes randomly loses power and speedometer. Changed one coil that seemed to be the issue but still will cut. Do you think the cdi could be the problem?
    What is the product you mention to seal it back?

    • @Italjohn
      @Italjohn  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's always the CDI, so just open them both and solder all points. Regarding the sealing stuff you can use what ever that sticks. I use Tec7.
