'Cicada-geddon': 17 States to Be Overrun with Trillions of Bugs

- You may not always see them, but you can certainly hear them.
"We are about to see billions of cicadas, commonly referred to as periodical cicadas because they only come out periodically, every 13 or 17 years depending on what broods you're talking about," said Austin Jones, a University of Arkansas entomologist.
Seventeen states from northwest Louisiana up through Illinois and portions of the Southeast will experience what some are calling "Cicada-geddon."
Entomologists expect the harmless - but noisy - insects to emerge from the ground to feed and mate during May and June.

"you'll own nothing and eat cicadas"
LOL people in Missouri are eating them like if they are Delicacies just moved out here from New Mexico so I'll pass on the cicadas😅
Good protein, lol
Pretty sure I'd starve.
@@donnac.3268Pray it doesn't come to that! We better save some honey-like John the Baptist and Elijah!😳 lol
Aged 18 years.
I don't understand people...I love the way they sound, I hear them outside our window nearly every day, I pick them up and talk to them and they talk back 😊🥰
They nasty looking
😂 It doesn’t bother me either. I actually heard this past week in Jamaica!
My sister would terrify me with stories, calling them the "sewing beetles". So, I wrote one called "The Sewing Cicada". lol
I think they're cool, also.
That's an interesting Username..." Can you hear Me" ✨✨✨ Peace and Love To you in Jesus Mighty Name. ✨✨✨. Amen
It's interesting that it's 17 years and over 17 states!
Interesting indeed I wonder🤔

Love them! Seventeen years, to have them. They hurt nothing! They are amazing!
I've always enjoyed the sound of these creatures since they remind me that its Summer.
Me too
I love the sound of cicadas. It's a very unique sound!
My chihuahua is eating them every time he gets outside. He’s a serial killer Cicada killer.🤣😂
My Yorkie too
My cat loves to play with them!
This was deep, beautiful, poetic, random on a different level ❤ thank you for sharing ❤ Hallelujah!!! “Maranatha”!!!
Love the sound they make!!
I like how his beard looks like ant mandibles and they move when he talks
😂😂😂
I’m mesmerized by this phenomenon. I didn’t know about cicadas and their 13 years hiding. Now here in Missouri it’s a 24 hours symphony…it’s so loud, yet it doesn’t bother me.
I grew up from youngest memories to the summer sounds of the cicadas, i have a fond memory of them, as said, this is a once in 17 year event, the living creatures are only announcing their presence to the world, and then like the mayflies, be gone soon enough. The sound to me is like a theme song of summer, part of what used to be.
I’ve been Mandela effect-ed regarding these things. They were there every year I was a kid, which I spend every day outside running around collecting bugs and frogs. Then all of the sudden they were gone, I remember I was 12-13 and summer sounded different, they were gone. I just thought they were endangered in my area or something. Now I find out they were only supposed to be around for one year? So odd.
Yes i remember them every year too. Just part of summer.@BigTrees4ever
I love the sounds they make it's so relaxing.
This makes for a lot of bird dinners.
Make a joyful NOISE unto the Lord!!!!
Exactly! 😃
Jesus is coming back soon everyone!! Get right with Him and wake up!! The Rapture is coming VERY SOON!!! God bless ❤❤❤
Yes, Jesus is coming soon. But cicadas aren't a sign of the times. They are just amazing creatures designed by God.
@@SalvableRuinit is a sign
Cicadas have always beem around
@@mariadominguez116 not like this
@@SalvableRuin It doesn’t matter what people see as a sign or not, everything is set in place and ready, the one world government and monetary system, all the countries are ready to go to war and nuclear war is getting ready to start, everything is ready for the 7 year tribulation, we just wait for the trumpet to sound!! God bless😁💕
The birds and mammals will feast
I love the sound of cicadas on a warm summer evening
Yes
I like their sounds too 💖👍
Just one more amazing creature from the creative hand of God😊 I love to hear their music at night w the windows open. A beautiful lullaby to fall asleep to❤
The sounds of summer
IT STARTS....
Meaning? Do you think they're going to take over the world and become president and fly around in spaceships chasing the humans down? LOL😮
What starts? Cicadas are awesome and harmless.
Please don't try to connect these cicadas with the so called "rapture" lol
@@ChristJesusIsLordAndKing78 sad that you can't find the truth about the Rapture that is soon about to happen if you get left behind it's going to be 20 times harder to be saved if I were you I would jump aboard and take the easy ticket out the best offer on the table. I had just started my new life in Cincinnati in spring of 1987 when the local 17-year population began to emerge.
Lots of fun. Cincinnati people made the best of it. I never tried Cicada Pizza, but I would NOT be surprised if someone actually.cooked some.
(Of course, the pizza restaurants that advertised it probably couldn't slip that past the Health Department....)
Over Decades, the thing that surprises me is that, no matter how LOUD the cicadas might be with hundreds of thousands in just a couple of trees, you can still carry on a conversation with a friend at normal volume, and hear each other clearly... Completely different Frequency Ranges.
I am 24 now and was 7 the last time I witnessed the cicadas in Chicago. I remember thinking that cicadas were normal and were just another bug but realized later on they only come around every 17 years. I remember them being loud in the forest preserves and flying into our car. I remember playing outside and just seeing them chilling around lol. Can’t believe i finally get to see these little guys again. Pretty nostalgic tbh.
Umm, 17 states, 17 years, interesting but, no thanks on the snacks!
We have them in TN already. They arent as loud as the brood 7 years ago. They arent as large either. Only about 1 inch. The numbers could grow to make them louder tho. So far its been a week or two and it just sounds like summer 🤷♀️ we have broods that come out every year.
Good fish bait.
WELL YOU EAT THEM MR. NEWS MAN. WE WONT. PERIOD
We've already been overrun for two months...
God has His purpose in this.
Alot of animals will thrive from eating these
We had cicadas here in Texas last summer. It’s a summer tradition!
It's so exciting!
I live in Alabama and they have taken oven my lad and it’s annoying .But I would rather deal with their noise instead of love bugs and ladybugs any day
South AL here near FL line, we have not gotten them, we have gotten some love bugs and lady bugs.
Um, there will be millions fewer than expected due to overdevelopment.
So true
Fantastical title! CICADA-GEDDON……
FEAR…BRAVO!
I can remember the last time I heard them. Very loud!
No buzzing in Georgia yet.
I remember a certain wasp that appeared in the late 60s called a "Cicada Killer" wasp. They would burrow into the dirt.
That guy shaved half his beard off look at that he’s got those two little pieces hahah
In addition to birds and some mammals, copperhead snakes love them, too...be aware of where you're stepping if you're outside at night when the cicadas are emerging, even on mowed lawns!...Stay Safe!
You should do a story on the Mormon crickets in northern Nevada!!!
No thank you! ❤ I’ll pass on the cicadas snacks 😂
Saw one on my railing of my porch. Which is unusual I’ve never seen any before.
I can’t hear anything for the kids screaming!!!

Love the La chicada the nose is soothing ❤ Bugs
I’m in Northeast Georgia. We haven’t seen a single cicada yet!
All of these cicadas are a classic Doctor Who episode waiting to happen 😂
My chickens love them 😄
It sounds mechanical. It’s not the usual clicking. Like a large electric car in reverse… its… unnerving
Yes, that cicadas might be God's calling for us 🙏💖👍
I'm in chicago I have not seen/heard them yet this year.
Havent seen or heard a single cicada in Louisiana yet
Nothing in Kentucky either,
Strange. We have them here in TN
Oh boy, get the grill ready
Hmm interesting!
WEF would suggest we make sandwiches out of em
The people of Missouri must have heard that suggestion because they are eating them now like scrumptious bars Wonka Bars
Okay I’m from Missouri and no one I know is eating them!

They're already getting quieter now
Last year, the cicadas were very thick and So Loud! Especially when I moved closer to our trees. And we have a Lot of foliage. Deafening.
And then 1 day, they were gone. There are a few of them showing up.
But we’re not 1 of the states that’s going yo be hit hard . Thanks GOD🙏

Okay so that beard is amazing. And I wonder if fried cicadas with chip seasoning will taste good. I have eaten grasshopper and they are not too bad.
I can't fully concentrate on what he is saying...his beard braids seem to have a life of their own. 😂😂 I love it!!!
Amen❤
We have those every rainy season, and they’re edible 😅
😮 thay were in middle of state of Nevada last year😊
How many days do insects live.
"Locusts" resemble grasshoppers.
Somebody is lying lol as a kid these bugs would come out of holes in the ground like every summer in Arkansas. We called them locusts lol
There are yearly broods, but there are also broods that stay underground certain numbers of years before they emerge again.
So locusts are considered clean. Are cycaders clean
Quit complaining! The freshly molted ones are deliciously edible, fried.
wat are the 17 states?🤔
New Zealand has cicadas every year, come on toughen up!
Who needs to be tough around cicadas? They are gentle creatures.
lol! We get them every year too, just not this many!
We don't get that many in New Zealand
In TN we have them yearly. This is just more than usual. Actually this brood is much smaller than the brood from about 7 years ago. They were huge. These are only about an inch long.
On my car, on the ground and they are very noisy!!
Prince of Egypt vibes
Dr. Austin Jones with forked beard is head cicada. :)
They came up at 2021 in the same area.
Not this many. These are 2 types of cicadas that emerge every 13 and 17 years, respectively, and those 2 cycles are coinciding.
And mini bug drones are directing there flight path.
How long will this last?
2 to 6 weeks.
