Ok did this job today. That fat hose between the pump and the line was split. The old pump did work but did replace it with the new AC Delco unit for 58 bucks. The short fuel line they gave you in the kit was really stiff like the part had been on the shelf for a long time. Used some fresher line that fit better as well as the splice connection. She ran mint! Next need to prime all the brakes and see how they are. Dying to take her down the freeway. Thanks again :D
Nice! I know what you mean about not many videos being out there. If you have the time and money to work on your car, I say go for it!! I can't tell you how long I've waited to work on my Caddy. I stopped driving it in 2005, and I'm just now getting to working on it.
Do you all think its the one in tank thats not leting me go fastein car one day it just started to do that ...new fual pump in front but did not change in tank changed Cadillaconverter as well runs great in park but when i go over 30 i bogel out then i have to pump in to start wont prim
Ok, thanks for the reply, i have a 89 seville, so i know there arent many detailed vids on caddys. The deville u have looks in great condition, usually people have treated them so bad they need a lot of work. You're making me want to get out there & work on mine some more lol it does need a new rack & pinion...
Hahaha, yeah, I sometimes forget to take my ring off. XD Thanks for the feedback! I'm in the middle of a move from Utah to California, so my next video may not be until the end of April or beginning of May. :)
If you want to flush out the old gas, just get a gasoline syphon from a local auto parts store, pull out the old gasoline via the filler neck, and put some fresh gasoline in. Getting the gasoline out won't be easier if you drop the tank, but yes, the procedure is the same. If it hasn't run in 15 yrs, I'd check to make sure the fuel pump is still working. Have a buddy turn the key in the ignition to the on position (not cranking) while you listen near the fuel tank for the whirr of the fuel pump.
Thank you I have been to that site as well. That's great it has the service fitting and thanks for the info! I will pump out the old gas with a RC pump I use for my model RC planes in a bucket from the tank filler. Fill it with a few gallons of new gas and purge from that service tap until I see clean fresh fuel in a separate container. I like to clean out all the lines and purge the rails in this fashion with new gas :D
The fuel lines run from the throttle body to the fuel tank/pump with a fuel filter in the middle. I think I saw that one of the fuel lines has a "service fitting" to measure fuel pressure behind the throttle body (but I haven't used it myself). I'm not entirely sure what the best way is to flush the lines, but if the car has been sitting for 15 years, I'd be surprised if there is still fuel in the lines. You might check out the Cadillac forums for more info. Good luck!
After this will replace with a new fuel filter and hope the old filter had collected the crud at the bottom and sides of the tank. I hope it won't be too bad.
Amen to that! All our cars are 8+ years old and we do all our own car repair. This is the first project I did pretty much by myself. I was surprised how much easier it ended up being than I originally thought. If the fuel pump in the '92 deville is in the tank (looks like it), the procedure will probably be very similar. Search "92 deville fuel pump replacement" on google and you'll find cadillac forums discussions on it. Good luck. Let me know if you have any question's along the way.
Make sure to replace the strainer as well that's connected at the bottom of the pump.... mine had disintegrated, and I imagine yours will be like that too.
Hey started up the Caddy today. Flushed out the 13 year old gas, oil, filters, and new plugs. It ran good for a bit then was very nice at idle and quiet. It than ran out of gas. Later on put more gas in and just runs like crap now. Seems like its starving for fuel but will run if you feather the gas pedal but idle stalls. Think it's mucked up from gunk leftover in the tank I think (hope). What is the fuel pressure for the HT 4100? Thanks for all your helpful videos :D
When you put the key into the second position, the fuel pump turns on for a second (buzzes) then turns off right after. I think this is just to prime the system or something. When you crank the engine (turning the starter motor), the fuel injectors spray fuel into the throttle body, so the pump is running. :)
Hi there. :) I'm not familiar with the '79 coupe, but after a quick google search, it seems like it might be a little different. Have you googled a fuel pump replacement for a 1979 Deville? I did a quick search and found a post about the topic on the cadillacforums. If you haven't already registered there, I highly recommend it. All the guys there are really helpful, and you usually get replies within a few hours if you write up a clear post describing your questions.
Great video am working ona 89 coupe deville we put starter fluid started right soon as I stop car turn off and I don’t hear nothing from the gas tank you it’s the relay or pump
Hey Thanks! I am going to rent a fuel pressure gage to measure the fuel pressure at all different throttles. It should be the same and not lag even at full punch. .You had mentioned before when you turn the ignition at 2 position pump should flow.Does it flow the whole time at ignition 2 or does it flow during starter motor startup? When I clicked the key to 2nd positon it would throw some gas then stop. Not continuous.Had to repeat key on and off to get some gas out from the pump.
Hey thanks! I will do this procedure as I have a RC fuel pump and could do it that way. But can you disconnect the send line at the fuel rail and purge the rest of the fuel in a container? I have done this in other cars until I see fresh fuel in the container. Also some fuel rails have a tap to measure fuel pressure. I have purged fuel from this tap as well. Does the caddy have this? Haven't had a chance to get to the car yet. Thanks!
Is this the same as a 92 deville? You make it look soooo easy! I'm going to try to do this with my husband, neither of us are mechanics, but we'll figure it out. Yay for being poor and having a used vehicle.
So that would involve to drop the tank anyways as its internal. Ill do the above cleaning first and may do that later on. I just want to make sure motor can run and mechanically sounds quiet like it should after all fluids A to Z are fresh.. Then brake test and crossing my fingers the tranny:D Thanks, Ill let you know how she is. Btw what material is the strainer made of?
When I did this fuel test I had a long fuel line attached to the gas send line with no filter attached before filter. Basically to the threaded fitting that would attach to the filter. Ignition was turned on and off several times to get that pump to send gas through it. Is this normal or is the pump all done? Other cars I have worked on (VW's)the pump would keep going no matter what. But they can overheat with no gas cooling it lol.
The relay panel is inside the car on the left side of the steering column. The fuel pump relay is the bottom right most relay. Here's the diagram: 1984coupedeville.files.wordpress.com/2018/03/relay_panel.png
! DANGER ! Risk of death, severe personal injury, explosion and fire. When working with fuel systems, always plug or block off openings to all fuel lines, gas tank inlet, etc.
Hello, is this the same tank type on a '84 Fleetwood? I have found this car with 30k but has not run in 15 years. Is their a drain plug on the tank without having to drop the tank to empty it? I want to flush the old gas out of there without corrupting the pump via to the motor ect. Thanks,
You're very welcome. :) Fuel pressure is supposed to be 9-12 psi. I'll upload some relevant charts for you and try to send you the links to your youtube inbox. When you mentioned that it runs like crap and you have to tap the gas a little to get it run right, it almost sounds like it's an idle speed problem. Do you know how to use the climate control to get error codes? That would be REALLY important to be able to figure out what's wrong. I'll give you instructions if you need.
I took a quick browse through my shop manual, and the only thing in the index remotely related to "oil pressure sensor" is reference to the "oil pressure indicator circuit," which pertains to the dashboard bulb. I'd have to do more research. What is it you're trying to solve? Is your oil pressure light on?
I am Japanese. I am riding a Cadillac Bloom 94 LT1 engine. But the fuel pump does not work. The fuel pump and fuel pump relay are brand new. The fuel pump fuse is OK. Is there any other cause?
hey there my name is anthony and i hace an 81 coupe deville...my car has recently loss power on the freeway, i stepped on the gas and it would not respond to go faster then i got up to 65mph n i stepped on it again and just declined in speed?
Yikes! I would have at least moved the Xterra. No point in burning up two vehicles haha. I hate doing fuel pumps. I just let a shop take the liability and risk on those jobs. Not something I'd get into doing on a regular basis, I have no desire to be Inferno Man.
SomeYoungGuy Johnson I had a fullsize fire extinguisher off to the side. :) The Xterra was in front because it was moving the Caddy. I think I'd be more worried about the house than the xterra at that point. LOL It actually wasn't that risky. We had drained almost all the fuel out of the tank and made sure the battery was disconnected.
Sorry about that. Thanks for the feedback. I dont talk at all in the video; everything is explained with text on the screen. You can watch it muted if you're still interested.
I have a 86 caddy chang fual pump filter in carb starts good runns in park but when i. Go it will start to turn off wont go over 30 tunrsoff like it i have no gas i do i never had to pump it be for i started it now i do have to do that befor i started it but will run in park press the gas runs great in park but when i go and increase my speed to 30 turns off ...
Am think. It the gas gage not working and now my speed armed er going crazy and it new just add that 4 mounth ago chand cady converter as well am stuck ...i bet ite the one in gas tank i chang fual pump in front of engine not on tank
PS. I definitely recommend getting a shop manual for your car, or at the very least, a haynes manual will be helpful, and there are also online help guides at ALLDATADIY(dot)com and CHILTONDIY(dot)com.
There are several mistakes in this video: 1. Whenever repairing anything dealing with the electrical system: DISCONNECT THE BATTERY! 2. When disconnecting dirty old fuel lines, a. CLEAN THE DIRT OFF TO SEE IF THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED. If rubber hoses, they might have dry-rotted. If metal, they might have rust problems. b. use labels of at least "hose 1," "hose 2," and "hose 3." You do not want to count on remembering where something was located. Yes, I know you are taking photos and making your video, but it is easy to mess up the orientation of those hoses. 3. BEFORE YOU OPEN THE FUEL TANK, you should be cleaning away any possible dirt that could/would fall into the tank. 4. GROUNDING WIRE: you are opening up the fuel tank and it is possible for you to build up static electricity. That electricity and your open fuel is a possibility for an explosion. It can be fun and helpful to make videos, but it can create liability if you are not covering all of the safety issues. Including a DISCLAIMER to suggest to folks to READ YOUR OWNERS MANUAL AND REPAIR MANUAL BEFORE ATTEMPTING REPAIRS...is a helpful way to help keep yourself out of legal peril. You can read Chilton's Haynes', and General Motors' manuals and they do not all agree or cover the same material. Adding the information about your car in the INFORMATION section means that anyone using the SEARCH feature is more likely to find your video. Just typesetting it into the film does not mean we can find your video with a search. I own a 1985 Eldorado Caddy with the HT4100, so that is why I am watching all of your Caddy videos tonight. I have owned the car since Aug 1989 and done all of the same projects I see you doing on your car. bye B
+Brennan Callan Thank you for this. 1. The battery was disconnected. I forgot to add it to the video. I will add a note to the video later. 2-4: Can I add your advice to my video for other people? Sorry for the late reply. Did you figure it out? I would suspect that a wire going from the fuse box to the fuel pump might be damaged. You can test continuity using a voltmeter to check that.
Rest in Peace Cherie. We were always amazed by your many skills and talents.

Which of the 3 hoses is for Venting the fumes? I can't pump more then 5cents at a time. I think my vent hose is clogged.
So you cut the 3 lines before you dropped the tank??
I have a 79 Coupe...is the process the same and are the connections the same as on yours?
Wow was that dude smoking during gas tank removal?!

Took my tank down in a hurry and forgot what hoses go where. Any help ?
thank you so much is it Anyway I can find the same book that you are looking at for the Cadillac 4100 engine
Awesome. :) Let me know how it goes!
i been looking for a while how many gallons or liters is the tank or how much does it hold in total

Whats up with guy with cigarette dropping tank
It's my husband. He likes to take risks apparently. lol.
Do you know if its the same or similar process for 85 dorado
I am not sure. Sorry for the late reply. If you still need an answer to this, check out the cadillac forums online.
do you know where the oil pressure sensor is located on a 4100 engine
I'd have to look it up in my shop manual. It's late right now. I'll try to check tomorrow.

Interesting about the climate control fault codes. Ill check it out thanks!
i need how to replace the radio antenna
How do I release the fuel pressure?
Just remove the gas cap on the filler (like you do when you're at the gas station).
ur my kind of woman!
