    I dremeled the air units open on my original pair in 89 or 90. Completely opened them up,just to see. Front air unit was definitely bigger in the original. I still miss those shoes. Also I didn't know that eventually there would be an entire culture of people who appreciate shoes as much as I did. I have catalogs and a signed letter from Nike and Tinker from the 80s. I wrote to them in Beaverton as an 11 year old and they sent me catalogs for shoe stores and all kinds of cool pamphlets. Was very, very nice of them.

      Really doesn’t matter what colorway was used. None of the retro 4s are true to the OG 89’s in terms of construction, quality and tech specs. Nike has cheapened the shoe in retro form big time. He’s right, the retro 4 is a toy shoe, whereas in 1989 it was an actual performance shoe.

    I simply love the look of the 4’s, however, I ultimately ALWAYS avoid buying resell. Not just for these, but for EVERY shoe. It’s not worth the extra cash. Other color ways and collabs will pop up. Waiting on it won’t kill you, but that potential 1000% price hike might

    • @salvadorHombre
      @salvadorHombre ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It really depends on the shoe IMO.
      Consider Chicago 1s. There's nothing rational about paying resell for those. But paying resell is often the only way to get Chicago 1s and it's probably one of the most desirable shoes/colourways out there.
      So while it's definitely not worth paying resell from an objective standpoint, considering history and the irrational human brain, some shoes can only be bought on resale.

    • @Q_N-
      @Q_N- ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@salvadorHombre lol irrational is right. I’ve seen my share of idiots paying upwards of 300$ for a colorway I’ve already hit twice. Once when the Origin Story dropped and the other is when the L&F dropped. Didn’t need to pay any resell to obtain the Chi color way. Waiting isn’t really an issue. It’s the delusional people who hype up these shoes and pushing the “exclusivity” factor that’s making all these younger generation believe they’re missing out. Even though they know deep down Nike will re-release this shit 🤦‍♂️

    • @jeremyjackson8196

      @Q_N- ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jeremyjackson8196 There’s always an option. People just choose to overlook it because of their own delusion. I’m a huge fan of Kobe, my dream is to at least own 1 pair of his shoes. In my younger days, my family was poor. I couldn’t afford Jordan’s til I was 20 and had a stable job. By the time Nike rolled out the SNKRS app I was already 30. The dropped the Kobe Protros, and not once have I ever won a pair of Kobe’s. However, I made it a point to NEVER buy at resale. No matter how much I admire Kobe, I can’t justify supporting a community where buying out products, then reselling it for ridiculous prices to actual consumers who want them. So ya, like I said, there is an option to not buy into the hype and support these companies and people that cash in. Then again, that’s just an optimistic point of view 🤷‍♂️ People are just too stubborn nowadays

Why wait in line for a golden ticket 🎫 or online battle with bots and then find them on sites like stockx goat etc where almost 75% of the time are REPS. Reps Gave gotten really really 1:1 good. Made by the same people in the same country in the same factories with the same materials etc. These kids weren’t even around to watch MJ in the 4’s there about “FLEX” lol and “clout” when majority of them don’t even own a property let alone a income generating property. I love my clean reps wear them with confidence NEVER claiming they are “real” lol always rep with confidence. I had the original release "III's" in grade 9. I played a lot of sports in junior and senior high years and needed a good all-around performance sneaker. The original "IIIs" are, to this day, the best/most comfortable all-around performance sneaker I've ever owned. I remember saving to buy the "IV's" for the following year and was HUGELY disappointed with the quality when I first held them. I chose not to get them and went for a Reebok Pump that year. Then the "V's" were released the following year and I swear they seemed even worse than the "IV's". Can't recall what I bought that year. When the "VI's" came out, they were $20 (CAD) more than the previous three models and I was skeptical because of the synthetic material but I decided to buy them and to this day they are 2nd best all-around performance sneaker. They actually were hard to "kill" they were so durable. I now own the retro "III's" and the retro "VI's" and they are so disappointing. Not even comparable. A waste of money if you ask me.

    Common Rose nobody wears Jordans for performance. Fans wear them for casual wear and to flex what they have.

    Got into Jordans during lock down because of "the last dance." These are totally the coolest Jordans in my opinion and these were the first pair I bought. Can't believe he's called them toy shoes 😢😂. I do believe they're actual "tanks" when it comes to durability though and I didn't buy them for function. 🎉

      @airtec87 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They are toys compared to the originals, the wings for example weren't made of rubber, but much more a sturdier TPU. The originals also had a bigger forefoot air bubble and thicker PU insoles.

    Please do the Nike SB Jordan 4. The original Jordan 4 (like the fire red here) are universally known as the pinky toe killers. I'm really curious how Nike SB made the shape better for the SB collab. Also Nike apparently updated that shape to all Jordan 4s for this year

    I did a survey on Facebook in a very large sneaker group asking what age everyone was. Largest groups were 30s and 40s.. So, it’s an old head game.I’m 50. When I think of vintage Jordans, I immediately picture bred 1s and fire red 4s. So for me, worth every penny to buy a shoe from my youth, and luckily for me and people like me, at our age, we make the kind of money it takes not to care about the price so much. I remember thinking those 4s were so modern looking, when they first came out.

    jordan 4 is one of my favorite shoes of all time. but i knew its so not worth it, the "leather" wrinkles like crumpled paper with just a couple wears, my feet hurts from walking in them for too long, and they're dumb heavy too. but i still love it because of the history and aesthetic.

    I had a pair of these way back in Middle School and they got pretty beat up since I didn't really comprehend just how much people love these things.
    But the weird thing is that my coach dissed them at one point as looking like crap 😂 Like what kind of adult- a teacher no less, fires shots at a kid for having dirty shoes

    Awesome teardown video as usual, thank you for doing this one. Also maybe in the future you can do a comparison with the SB Jordan 4, these recently came out and there is a curiosity in the sneaker community if the skate version have a forefoot air unit. Also the materials used on the SB model are vastly different, or appear to be than the regular Jordan 4 retro like the fire reds.

    The Air Jordan 4 White Cement is my favorite shoe of all time.
    Unfortunately the quality of the the whole shoe has sunk constantly over the years. This is a genuine proof. Thanks for that Wheaton.
    I never expected Nike to smaller the Air Units. This is dishonorable. The long year faithful customers deserve better than this. Mister Jordan himself has to intervene as soon as possible.
    Wheaton, why don’t you cut the stitching of the soles any more?

    the homework here hasn't been completeled))
    personal experience - while being quite a heavy shoe they don't give tired feeling my feet after having long walks.
    also they're great on not having any stench after you wear them at least several months.

    Thats awesome your doing a breakdown of the "tech/performance" function of these, but I gotta tell ya at least for me, the tech or performance these shoes have within them have never been a reason I've ever bought a pair of Jordan's.

  • @haroldcampos9661
    @haroldcampos9661 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Maybe not a lot of performance but plenty comfy. I had a pair that I used daily for a while. My mom took me to the mall once and told me to get anything I want as long as I threw away my keds-like sneakers, and I went for the spizikes and wore 'em all the time.

    Great breakdown as always. You have picked a Jordan 4 that had some pretty bad QC issues. My right shoe came out of the box with horrible toe box creasing even before wearing it. The toe box shape was more narrow than all my other 4s and I had to go up a half size. There's definitely better 4s out there than this one

    o7 to that pair. your sacrifice will be remembered. i own a pair of these and theyre one of my favorites. but this run of fire red 4s are notorious for being made kinda crappy. Some of the newer 4s, theyre on an updated shoe last and they are better made and more comfortable.
