Remember how Maki started crying _immediately_ after saying all that stuff about "two students playing house will never last"? She knows that's not exactly true, but just like Ishigami said, she's a tsundere just like Kaguya. She hides her true thoughts and feelings behind bold and arrogant words, but unlike Kaguya, she breaks down much more easily. She most likely doesn't actually believe what she said and was just trying to save herself from the heartbreak of accepting that she'd already lost Tsubasa.
The reason why the rap bit works so well is because it works off all the bits that have started from season 3 plus the whole Chika training bit. It all clashes together and works as probably the funniest bit in all of Kaguya
A little detailed left from manga. After RAP episode, Kaguya bring more assistants in the house to give Hayasaka more extra days off and less work hours.
When Chika was saying Kaguya matched Miyuki on the first try, clearly Kaguya didn't have the production value. What Chika was referring to was that Kaguya was rhyming. Rhyme isn't a thing in Japanese; remember Chika's confusion about rhyme and bad puns in the teaching segment? It's a concept imported from other languages that doesn't come naturally, so Kaguya being able to do it from the get go having just heard one example is a little impressive.
Alright. Incoming that absolute essay defending Maki. I just need to get this off my chest because Maki is a candidate for my favorite character right alongside Ishigami, so if by some chance Alicia is reading comments 5 hours after uploading, just ignore it and treat it as extra engagement. That said, I adore this Pain Baby, and have since her formal introduction. A little before that, even, when she was only known as "Stalker-chan". And I do it for the same reason I love most of the characters in this series. "Love is War" as a whole is just a story about a series of stupid kids who suffer as the consequences of their own stupid decisions, and we just hope they can fumble their way through the problems they bring upon themselves. If Maki were capable of proper communication, she'd talk to her best friend about her feelings and ask them to at least not do PDA in front of her. But she's not capable of that, because she's basically *just another Kaguya.* Which is also why I think Kaguya would 100% hope for Miyuki to break up and otherwise suffer nonstop if he were to date her best friend. You could also loop that back around to Maki being self-aware that she's a difficult person and being self-conscious of it. Tsundere isn't just a trope, it's a full on behavioral disorder due to a shitty family. She also *does* respect her best friend and crush's relationship. That's part of why she keeps quiet and puts up with it. But asking her not to cry or feel pain is like saying "just don't be depressed". She can try to get over it, but asking her to just turn off a really strong emotion is just unreasonable, especially with her first love. So it's perfectly reasonable to let her at least vent at the Student Council once in a while-especially since it's Miyuki's fault her crush was taken in the first place. Of course, none of this justifies being a homewrecker, so that puts us back into the "stupid kids that I love getting what their stupid decisions deserve".
42:03 Shirogane's dad and Hayasaka's mom immediately acting in sync to embarrass Kaguya is still one of my favourite moments in the show, and it's like 3 frames long. And the English dub of the scene at 50:28 is just incredible, one of the highlights of the show for the VAs.
Something I truly appreciate about this series is the way it handles friendships with care. Ishigami has "stolen" two dates from Kaguya now, but both times, he and the Prez still just get to have fun. He's never treated as in the way because he is also a valued friend. And really, this applies to everyone. Every character in this story has a unique relationship with everyone else, and on the Student Council in particular, these relationships tend to bring out the best in each other. Kaguya gets to show kindness in her own way around Ishigami. Ishigami gets to try hard thanks to Kaguya. Chika's selfless love is more apparent around Miyuki. Miyuki gets to be vulnerable around Chika. In any other story, the only strong dynamic would be the romantic ones.
Maki saying "Nagisa looks like Satan to me" isn't out of envy or hatred, it's directly referencing how Ishigami *literally just described her* as a "final boss" in terms of... erm, "sek" experience. The entire Student Council (sans Miko who hadn't joined yet) already took that L with her last season. Edit: Miko knew since the episode it happened what Prez did for her in the election. She directly thanked him for it.
@54:19 for some reason Iino's friend snapping open her phone case made me laugh uncontrollably the first time and I still lost my composure this time around.

This is why A1 Pictures the one who did this series animation got so much love this season. They just went above and beyond their animation quality especially when it came to the rapping scene. Even as a manga reader, that episode 5 blew me away the first time I saw it.
The funniest thing is that if you look in the background in some of the episodes before this one and after the whole karaoke episode, you can sometimes see Shirogane and Chika practicing rap in the background, which is implied to be the training they go through in this episode

It's whacky in it's premise, but really wholesome and with great music. I don't think Shirogane knows how much Iino overthinks and fantasizes. We know, because the anime puts us directly into her head. He just sees her running off screaming a lot, without a clue as to what happened. Remember he's a genius only in academic pursuits and scheming. When it comes to women... well, he's not completely clueless, but he's no savant either. I feel like only her second in command in the disciplinary committee really has an inkling what's going on inside of Ino's head, because she's the only one Iino opens up to and exposes her inner twist and turns to.
The thing with Maki is that she was the one that wanted to know if Tsubasa had a GF, Nagisa and the other girls were just making fun of him, Nagisa didn't like him at all and then the president and the council helped to make that relationship happen. I helped a friend of mine to get with a girl i liked so i kinda get that. Maki is one of my favorite characters in the show later on. Also, idk if you noticed the Bohemian rhapsody reference.
22:30 is a bit more sad than that. Mako had a crush on the guy first. She asked Nagusa to ask him if he had a gf or something. He misinterpreted that as Nagisa having feelings for him. What's amazing is Kaguya's VA is just so good, and then you find out she does the voice for Komi in Komi Can't communicate, a completely different character.
The ep no one saw coming was the one they put the most effort it and it was so good! Rapping out of left field was such an amazing moment! Also, stop dissing Tsundere-senpai! She's perfectly adorable just the way she is!
I don't actually think Maki is doing anything bad. She tried to find out if her crush was single, and that unexpectedly turned into her crush asking her best friend out and her friend (who come one, she helped find out he was single, she must have known) saying yes. I know she _says_ she's gonna try break them up, but everything she does and the was she talks about both of them individually makes it pretty obvious she's never gonna do anything. She's just venting to get all the emotions out of her system, after being completely ignored by her best friend and crush while they make out at pretend she isn't even there. She needs to get over the guy and move on, but you can't just switch that off overnight, and the constant PDA getting shoved in her face isn't helping.

The rap episode is probably the best episode of the series. As someone who read the manga first, I thought they would mess this up. Also Ishigami calls Maki “Ms Steal your Man” throughout the rest of the series in the dub
I feel like you’re coming around to enjoy Miko a good bit more. As for Maki, I will say she’s more in the process of giving up on this relationship and needs to get some of these feelings out… by paying attention to her we know she won’t act, but this is helping her move on and away from her love that is now taken.,.
Yeah, I really don't think she believes that either one of the couple is actually in the wrong, but she's got a lot of pent up feelings and she's just using the council room to vent.

In fairness to Maki, she was making moves on him, Nagisa dating him was out of left field. She was supposed to just ask him if he was seeing anybody on Maki's behalf. Instead He thought _Nagisa_ was interested and Due to Shirogane's suggestion and technique he asked her out and Nagisa fold like wet paper towel in the moment. We saw her in season 1 come for advice about breaking up berceuse she didn't like him at first and didn't know how to feel about it, and the Student council encouraged her to work it out and lo and behold they actually did fall in love as a result. This couple is like the inverse of Kaguya and Shirogane, they one that that give advice too that they themselves hypocritically don't follow but it just fucking _WORKS_ who had no prior feeling for each other but just went for it and worked out their issues with help form others and turned it into a great and real relationship. Also Maki is supposed to be the version of Kaguya who played games and lost her shot with her version of Shirogane. A comedic cautionary tale.
Kaguya sama is just one of those series that I always leave every episode with a smile on my face. These episodes, and this new arc we're about to get into, are the prime reasons why I think this show is so special.
I think it's easier to understand Maki if you just replace her with Kaguya, Tsubasa with Shirogane, and Kashiwagi with Fujiwara Without any of the character development after season 1. Maki tried a kaguya-level scheme and it backfired because Tsubasa went out with Kashiwagi because of it. Remember all the season 1 moments where Kaguya viewed Fujiwara as less than a human being in her jealous interactions. Most people just want her to move on cause she obviously won't be happy in her current relationship goals.
It is funny how episode 6 of season 3 is a really good episode. Like just looking at it, its probably top 5. However, I never remember it cause episode 5 blows literally everything else out of the water.
I feel like you are being way too strict with Maki and a bit lenient with Kaguya. The entire point is that the two distant relatives are exactly the same in terms of their personalities, including their tendencies to jealousy. The only difference is that one’s love is going well while the other’s isn’t. Maki’s character acts as a “what if” for tsundere characters that take too long to confess their feelings. During the rap scene, Kaguya was definitely putting Hayasaka down in front of Shirogane, not at all trying to push her to be more open. This is because Kaguya genuinely feels jealous about Hayasaka talking with Shirogane behind her back over LINE, even though it’s obvious that Hayasaka just sees him as a friend given how often Hayasaka helps Kaguya with her romance. And yet despite their close relationship, Kaguya tries to put Hayasaka in a bad light in front of Shirogane to stop any form of romantic progression between the two. Kaguya’s jealous tendencies can also be seen from her reactions when other females interact with Shirogane, including later in the episode when she panics because Shirogane has added another female friend in Maki. I feel that if Shirogane was already in a relationship with another girl, Kaguya would most likely behave exactly like Maki.
Too bad you watched this in Japanese because you missed out on Shirogane yelling "MOM'S SPAGHETTI!" at the end of his horrible rap. Cracked me the fuck up.
_Kaguya-sama_ did a musical episode right. _Star Trek_ ? Nah, man. If a Klingon's gonna be singing, it's gotta be Klingon Opera. Yes, that's a thing. Oh... I just realized they pulled off _Cuberpunk_ Edgerunners_ aesthetics for the ED, _My Nonfiction_ .
To this day Chika's "Mother f*cker" is the funniest thing I've seen in a anime cause it came right out of nowhere 🤣🤣🤣

It is funny how episode 6 of season 3 is a really good episode. Like just looking at it, its probably top 5. However, I never remember it cause episode 5 blows literally everything else out of the water.
i feel like you are missing the point of maki tbh
Who doesn't love Tsubusa, Na-geese-a and Mako lol.
HIMyuki and HIMshigami at it again
The moon is red.
47:53 Doraemon reference.
Why did she have a nosebleed? You've never heard of fujoshi?
It's called being horni
Speaking of that the series will cover Fujioshi
Nobody expects the Kaguya Dub.
Too bad you watched this in Japanese because you missed out on Shirogane yelling "MOM'S SPAGHETTI!" at the end of his horrible rap. Cracked me the fuck up.
her (you know what it do shorty). Me being 6.1 Nope but here is your comment for the algorithm Gods.
39:55 Kono PAPA DIO da ! ! !
Have you seen the interplanetary version of Annie from the show Orville by Seth Macfarlane? Now that's the shit right there
