This was very interesting, I'm glad that Rumiko was able to get her justice. It's a shame some people did that to her with no regard to whatsoever

Yes, it all played out very quickly, but thankfully she was able to have her day in court and the magazine was found liable. She was very right to feel that such insinuations could really impact her if allowed to go unanswered.

So basically, some gossip magazine writer went over his head and wrote something without doing proper research first, and it came back biting him and his publication on the ass for it

Yes, exactly, they were playing quiet loosely with their reporting.

And on top of that the publication eventually kicked the bucket too, while it may not be due to this incident it's still karma coming full circle

Wow, this was very interesting! Thank you for your effort in investigating and sharing it! I was very surprised this was about Shiina's wife! I'm glad this didn't damage the relationship between Rumiko and her ex assistant, as it seems she's in great terms with Shiina

Indeed, and to be honest I had some concerns in reporting this that people would misconstrue that that the ex-assistant was somehow at fault (she absolutely was not). And as you said, Takahashi and Shiina still have a good relationship. Thanks for watching!

@@TheRumicWorld yeah, people can take things out of context but I think you explained very well this was all on the magazine and not her✨

It's impressive how you are finding this obscure knowledge lol

Thank you kindly! This was one I had recalled hearing about long, long ago, however even in Japan this isn't very well known. Last year I had managed to track down which issue of The Rumored Truth the offending article was in, but then the challenge came in actually trying to purchase it (not a lot of avenues to purchase old tabloid magazines). When I finally found a copy last year it got lost in shipping. It took another year to find a second copy. This was a tough one to put together, haha!

Claiming that Rumiko Takahashi didn't really write Ranma1/2 is of course slanderous in itself, but the context of the assertion makes it even more outrageous: it's about Rumiko Takahashi's assistant marrying, which, according to the publication, "is a time of celebration for all".
Takahashi herself didn't marry, is still unmarried, and we all know what "he never married" usually meant in old British obituaries.
Because of the huge pile of content you collected with reference to Rumiko Takahashi's life and context for her works, you must be aware of certain things regarding her. And if those hints could be found in once easily accessible media, those are things a Japanese tabloid publication could have been made aware of.
In this context, "chief assistant" and "shadow warrior", among others, can be read as having another meaning.
So, do you think that there was more to this story than just claiming that Rumiko Takahashi wasn't the real artist behind Ranma1/2? If so, do you think it can be discussed here, or is it too early? (I mean, Rumiko Takahashi is still alive!...)

In this case I don't think that was the implication. I certainly understand what you mean, and it's a topic that I've seen discussed in English-speaking fan communities. I can honestly say I haven't seen Japanese fans discussing it in the past 30 years I've followed her career. I'm not saying they don't, but I've not been able to find any lead to follow so to speak.

    • @lemondenoeil
      @lemondenoeil ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@TheRumicWorld Yes, but it's possibly because the topic is much more taboo in Japan than it is in the West, so what a modern Western audience may, in retrospect, consider serious hints, could just as easily be dismissed in a more conservative society (or at least not be discussed, if they are ever noticed).

How this story ended is not surprising. Surprising that this journal existed this long. But, I can't say this journal's main idea was bad, cause there are many silent crimes in Japan still and victims often refuse to speak out of fear...cause usually society think that the one who is respected (a criminal) is right, and the victim is the one to be blamed and pressured. Shame they (journal) turned themselves into the "yellow press"

    Very impressive piece of journalism.
I would have mocked the Rumoured Truth for their tabloid journalism, but here in the States, my browser opening page is full of the same sort of trash.

Thank you kindly, it was a topic I'd been wanting to tackle for awhile but required a good deal of research to put everything together.
