Of course they go straight to replacing the whole system. It's a racket.
I hate that you can't just depend on them not to try stuff like that and have to dig yourself whenever you can. My older bike had tons of oil leaks too. Lots to patch up. Hoses degrade. But if you can do the work, it's really cheap repairs if you have the time to poke around.

Yep. Certainly changed my life when it comes to cars. Once I got past the worry that I would break something and make it worse, it’s been awesome to learn to fix these completely doable problems. Am I going to be removing the engine anytime soon, ha, nope, not brave enough to tackle that yet. But there are hundreds of other things that are easy-ish that will save so much money.

You want to save money, stay away from the Boxter.

Ha! No doubt there are things about the 986 Boxster that weren’t the smartest design (IMS bearing etc) which also apply the 911 996
But it is a much easier car to work on yourself than people think because it’s so analog as opposed to any modern Porsche that you are basically handcuffed to a dealership or specialty shop.
But any 20+ year old car will need repairs regardless of brand.😎
