    Le Guin has long been one of my favorite artists and I'm so glad that you've discovered her! Don't miss the Earthsea series, it's wonderful and timeless and the last book is even better than the first, which is rare.

      Oh my gosh, I've been loving her work so much! But I haven't gotten to the Earthsea series yet! I'll get it next time I'm at the library.

    I'm not going to "try" to do a no buy, I'm DOING a no buy! From April 8th to at least May 8th. Your last video really hit me hard! I'm letting myself spend freely during the 21 days of beauty at Ulta, but it ends April 7th. So I officially start April 8th. Super excited and extremely motivated! I spent over $200 in March just on makeup! My rules are no makeup, no skincare and no hair products. Not even replacements (I just don't need anything). Thank you Hannah for the speech at the end of your last video. I kept telling myself I'm going to "try" to do a no buy, knowing failure was an option. This time it is NOT an option. Thanks again! You are helping people even if you don't know it.😘😘

      Haha, yes!!! I'm so glad my rant in the previous video was helpful :) I think your plan for going from the 8th to the 8th is excellent. You will know it's coming, so for the first week of April you can make sure you get everything you need to make it through. I'm so glad you are going into it with such strength of will! Failure is genuinely not an option when you have full control, which you do!!! xoxo!

    Omg. I've been binge watching your video, I'm in. Make up shopping addict / skincare/ perfume, etc. I've been on a no buy Jan-March and mini binged last week, this idea is genius. I'm in. 4/22-12/31/18

    I'm doing pretty well with my No-Buy Month (I started March 23rd, so I'm sticking to it until April 23rd). I'm only allowed to order food to my dorm on weekends and I've already saved myself a good amount of money :)

    Great video! I'm back on the No Buy! March being my Birthday month - I splurged more than I wanted to But part of my splurges was needed stuff/stuff that I will buy when I see they're on sale. So now, onto No Buy April! I know that for this month I'm totally stocked up with products so other than actual bills I don't need to spend any money.

      Yay Lisa! Good luck! It's great to be stocked up so that you won't be tempted. The more excuses are removed, the better. Thanks for commenting! xoxo!

    A couple of years ago I tried to simplify my routine and use more natural products. I used coconut oil to remove my makeup. I think it was a source of clogged pores. But it could have been a million other things as well! And you are completely right on with no-buy favorites. You have extended knowledge of the product after continued use. I am convinced that I will never run out of hair products. I've had the same stash for upwards of 7 years! Ha ha

      I know, I really feel like I'll have the same hair products for the rest of my life. I might actually make an effort to use them more. But the more I use, the sooner I have to wash my hair, so...

    hey hannah! I was just wondering (if this doesn’t seem weird) in between the days that you fully wash your hair, do you condition? Or like, what do you do in between shampoo days.

    March was my birthday month, but surprisingly I didn’t buy any makeup, only a couple skincare replacements. I didn’t feel like I had to force myself to stop shopping, which is so liberating.
    My hair is completely different from yours! If I don’t wash it often enough, it gets greasy, flat, piece-y but not in a good way.
    Can’t wait for the empties video!

      yay, I love that you say you didn't have to force yourself to stop shopping! That's great. I'm hoping that's the zone I'll be in by the end of the year. I hope you had a great birthday!

    I know its been months since this. But I just wanted to let you know the Belief products make me break out around my chin as well. I used to blame it on everything else but it wasn't until I finished that moisturizer that I realized it was that the whole time.

    I failed with my no-buy facebook March, but I'm back on the train for April! Getting on the app after 8pm just slunk back into my habits and I didn't even realize it had happened until a week down the road! I did notice, however, that there was a certain urgency that also crept back into my evenings when I allowed myself to stare mindlessly at my phone for no good reason. So here's goes another try! Also, love love love that you're exploring Ursula K Le Guin!

      sneaky habits, ahhh!!! Good luck with April, you can do it!! I feel like awareness is a large part of the battle, so as long as you're paying attention, you're making progress. xoxo!

    I’ve been doing good on my low/no buy. I haven’t bought anything so far from the Ulta 21 Days of Beauty. I actually passed on buying a bunch of items. One was Anastasia Brow Wiz. I wanted to try it but I have Anastasia Dip Brow still going strong after a year. I also have Wunderbrow. I didn’t need to add eyebrow pencils to just hold because of the price. When I’m done with what I have, I’ll revisit my needs. I also wanted to try the Becca primers. But I couldn’t justify it. I have other radiant primers in my stash to use up. I was going to buy something yesterday online at Ulta but it sold out. And I’m just fine! I still do have a few upcoming planned purchases from Ulta. I am planning on a few items from Sephora during their April sale. Nothing extravagant and nothing from my no-buy categories, which at this time is lip color, highlight and blush. But, once I make a Sephora purchase, I may move over another category 😀

      I love this! You're doing amazing! I love the "I want ____ but I already have ____" way of thinking. That's so helpful. When you start to WANT to buy less (instead of secretly hoping to find a reason TO buy things) it changes the perspective so much. Congrats on your progress!!

    I’m in a low buy for skincare this year and no buy for makeup since last year.
    Gosh it’s really hard but i’m really satisfied because i panned some of my makeup.
    But i’m going to take a break for this month because of sephora vib sale. I have 4 items that I really want since last year so 😂🙈

    • @HannahLouisePoston
      @HannahLouisePoston  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gosh, it sounds like you really earned your break, though! I think four items is reasonable. And if you still want them after a whole year, you know it's serious :) Thanks for commenting!

    Hmm, your recommendation of Ursula Le Guin books sounds like it will be something right for me! I've never read anything by that author.

    I wanted to do a no spend month...probably a year...maybe longer until i've used up every single item with the only rule to be able to repurchase only something if i can out of it or can't exchange it.
    But...its's already hard and i'm thinking about the Nars Palette you've just shown. O.o... and it's only one week since i've startet >.< haha

    • @rachel8216
      @rachel8216 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm sure you already have your own "Nars palette," in concept. There's something beautiful in you collection already that will warm your heart the same way that it is making Hannah happy. Take your time to find it :)

      Rachel Thx. Such a lovely comment ^^

    • @HannahLouisePoston
      @HannahLouisePoston  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with Rachel! I bet there's something you already have that's just as good, and good in the same way. Also, I think Nars is going to come out with single highlighters, and honestly I would wait for that. The palette is nice but it's more than one needs. Good luck with your month! I think it's a great idea to start with one month as your goal, and then if you feel like it, continue for another month. Short-term promises to yourself are easier to keep. That way you won't feel overwhelmed and give up. Or, after you make it through the month, you could check in with yourself and see if there's anything you just HAVE to buy, and then after that, start another month. I feel like it's all about setting the right constraints for yourself and then sticking to them.

    I have been completely out of control...for a long time.
    My goal is basically to stop being impulsive, some mindlessly being like "oh I want that. Ordered." I want to try to wait to buy anything until the Fall VIB and deluge of Ulta coupons in the fall and Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales. But really, I just want to use what I have, make a dent. I am great at culling stuff when I buy more, but I have a lot of returning going on because I have a lot of buying going on. I seem to NEED to try everything. I am going to delete Instagram for hopefully a month. I think Reddit also. Seeing all the new stuff in my feed seems to drive a lot of my impulsive, compulsive "needs" to have. I have more makeup than I could ever use in my lifetime. I have TWO CLOSETS full of beauty products.
    One is just for my backups. You said in another video--the VIB sale one--about not buying backups. And that's a *HUGE* issue with that. Like my favorite eyeliner, I did stockpile that when it got discontinued. And I am actually pissed I am down to my last ones because I haven't found anything like it that also has the smudger thing on it. I've actually torn the smudgers off the nubs before I threw them out, and I've decided I will "tape" or glue them on to whatever I find to replace them.
    I tried this year to set a monthly budget. It is now the end of April and I have spent my ENTIRE YEAR budget already. We aren't going to pay off our house, remodel our kitchen, buy a car for my husband, and take a great vacation for ourselves if I keep spending this much.

    • @HannahLouisePoston
      @HannahLouisePoston  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Budgeting has NOT worked for me. I am exactly like you describe, I would have spent the whole year budget in the first couple of months, too. I've tried to budget my spending for years (like...over a decade. My whole adult life) and I've never been able to make a change in my habits with budgeting. Maybe moderation only works for the non-compulsive and non-addicted people out there? I'm hoping that after a year of no-buy, I will have broken my shopping habit thoroughly enough to actually be able to budget successfully.
      Re: the favorite eyeliner, I think that's where the idea of "loosening my grip on perfectionism" comes in. For me, I panic when I run out of my favorite skincare. I'm learning this year that it's ok if I don't have my favorite skincare. It's even ok (gasp!) if I don't look my best! I think it's going to be ok to be without your old favorite. You will still be yourself, you will still look beautiful, you will still have all of your same powers and abilities and you will still be able to do your work in the world. The trick for me is catching myself in the act of thinking that I'm NOT all those things without my $100 serum...and reminding myself that actually, I still am all those things, even without it.
      Good luck in your journey! I'm rooting for you!

      I love this reply so much! I am SO SO SO hyper anal retentive and control freak that I just cannot handle when it's "not perfect" and I am like that across board.
      Can you believe that I have LITERALLY never learned to budget? I was trying to do it this year using that YNAB software...well it's gone to hell. I can't figure out how to really do it. I feel like I need to involve my brother in law who is super insane about budgeting. My husband is at his wit's end.

    • @HannahLouisePoston
      @HannahLouisePoston  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      budgeting is so hard because the concept is one-dimensional; it doesn't teach or show us how to actually break the spending habit, because you would have to have already broken it to successfully budget (if that makes sense). That's why cold turkey is the only way for me! GOOD LUCK!!!
