    Form the first notes.chords of the Brahms, like his German Requiem, one feels like God is talking. Canellakis and the orchestra channel it beautifully!

    No one seems to be acknowledging the superior work of the Chorus Director. Most people seem to think that Karina, the conductor, prepared the Chorus. Not so. She may have added some "final touches" in the dress rehearsal but the Netherland's Radio Choir's performance was because of the Chorus Director. He trained them. I say this because so often the Chorus Director is completely ignored -- as seems to be the case in these comments -- and all credit for his work goes to the conductor. Chorus Directors get a little tired of that, understandably so. This is not meant to take away anything from Karina. She's an excellent conductor. I'm just saying to give credit where credit is due. In any performance where a Chorus is on stage, their performance is because of the Chorus Director who trained them. Glad to see he was brought out more than once at the end of this performance to be acknowledged for his hard work. That's very good. It's not all about the conductor and conductor-worshipping. Even the finest conductors can only do so much with the musicians they have to work with. In this case, Karina is fortunate to work with stellar musicians, both Orchestra and Chorus.

      Absolutely! Love Karina, but the fact that the Choir Director is not even mentioned is negligent. I suspect it may be Benjamin Goodson, Chief Conductor of the choir, but perhaps...?

      @ Rod Luftalchimist: This being 2020-2021 and not the 1940s or 50s, I suspect the many women musicians -- including the conductor -- would appreciate being referred to as peoplekind or humankind to acknowledge their accomplishments. And the non-sexist male musicians would say the same.

    An excellent interpretation and performance of this beautiful Brahms piece. It also resonated with me for another reason, though: I had become pessimistic about ever again being able to see a live concert with anything other than chamber-size music forces. This performance of a full-scale choral/orchestral piece was extremely encouraging to me. Thank you for posting this.

    • @danmoran454
      @danmoran454 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ Ellwood Cushman: The Chorus in this performance *is* a Chamber Chorus (in size). They sound larger because of the mic'ing. I count 34 voices (socially distanced). Anything under around 40 voices is considered chamber. It may be the Chamber Chorus of the full Chorus (Nederlands Radio Choir) that I've seen from their other performances, such as their Elias (Mendelssohn). I do question why they all did not wear face masks -- both Orchestra (minus the winds and brass of course) and Chorus -- like the Collegium 1704 in the Czech Republic have been doing. No one's life is worth a performance.

    Wonderful, perambulatory tempo, which is the right polish on the alluvial perfection of Brahms. The 4-3 appoggiatura over V reminds me a failing relationship I once endured, with the near-ex once inadvertently standing on my ear-buds, which had dropped to the floor, symbolically enough, prompting me to say, decisively, “ You’re treading on my song of destiny.”

    Vielen Dank für Ihre faszinierenden Videos! Ich wurde in Frankreich geboren und spreche Französisch sowie Englisch und Amerikanisch (ich habe bereits insgesamt 12 Jahre in den USA gelebt und jetzt zwanzig in England, meine Frau und meine kleine Familie sind alle Englisch), spreche aber auch Spanisch-Mexikanisch (und einige Costa Ricaner) und wollen jetzt Deutsch lernen:
    In letzter Zeit scheinen immer mehr Menschen in der Mode deutsche (sogar österreichische) Kunst, Literatur und Musik studieren oder damit arbeiten zu wollen: Betrachten Sie einige Beispiele von Menschen aus dieser Perspektive: Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Felix Mendelssohn, Johannes Brahms, Jean-Sébastien Bach, Friedrich Engels, Johann Strauß, Jürgen Habermas, Martin Heidegger, Max Horkheimer, Edmund Husserl, Karl Jaspers, Bertha von Suttner, Marina Faust, Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Emmanuel Kant, Karl Marx, Friedrich Nietzsche August, Wilhelm Schlegel, Arthur Schopenhauer, Christian Wolff, Herta Müller, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Hilla Becher, Christa Wolf, Pina Bausch, Maria Sibylla Merian usw., Herta Müller, Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Hilla Becher, Christa Wolf, Pina Bausch, Maria Sibylla Merian , Hedy Lamarr usw. Ich bin auch fasziniert von Martin Luther.
    Es ist bemerkenswert, dass Deutsch immer noch die erste Sprache ist, die in der Europäischen Union gesprochen wird. Auf der anderen Seite wird es nicht nur so bleiben, es wird auch in der Welt noch stärker werden, denn aufgrund des Brexit (was ich verstehe, warum) werden Großbritannien und so viele trumpistische Extremisten in den Vereinigten Staaten Englisch als weniger Option verwenden. mindestens nicht weniger als -15%.

Un poco más y la dirige como orquesta de cámara desde su casa en streaming...

    I'm not convinced by these slow tempi... It's a bit like the Adagietto from Mahler's 5th Symphony - actually the tune is quite simple, but gets rather lost if it's too slow. But they sing and play it well anyway.
