Instead of trying to weave together a universe like the MCU, DC should just do standalone movies like this one. They could even do standalone trilogy movies, but doing it that way would differentiate them from Marvel and alleviate any continuity issues. This "one shot" is a perfect example of how it's done.
I continue to be impressed with how artistically shot these trailers are (posters as well). We know the film will be beautiful!

I don't think that DeNiro knows that it's the same guy who he mocked earlier, now in his trailer van. Epic.
How would he not know? Arthur tells him to introduce him as Joker so he must know it's him he won't have some unknown guy on his show.
I'm guessing Arthur took on the persona of the clown and people now want to see him that's why they brought him back.

Richard Hannay there was a moment while watching his transformative performance in The Master that it became readily apparent that Phoenix’ talent is otherworldly. So many times in which he brought films to another level. We are witnessing something that is rarely seen in that art of cinema. I truly hope that the Academy does recognize that soon.
The poster is Excalibur, which is ironically the same poster you see when the waynes are gunned down in Batman V Superman.
And there's a family of three coming out the door also... :P

clown mask seems like the "V for Vendetta" movement in the movie. The Guy Fawkes mask became a symbol of rebellion. I have a feeling that's what's going to happen here.

Indeed. And I don’t think Phoenix is the real joker either. He inspire (an idea or a symbol like in Batman begin) the young real joker that going to be future Batman nemesis.

I am a DC diehard. Yes, I give the folks at Marvel a ton of credit, for what they've done, and I take nothing from them. I think one could enjoy both. But my favorite stable of characters reside in the DCU. DC's been home, for the last 30+ years.

Box office numbers are manipulated these days by some studios these days to be in voraciously cheap quest to be the highest grossing movie, despite the level of skunk shit mediocrity it brings on the table 😊🐭🐭
Is it really rated R? I mean I hope so because I think that DC's dark nature is what sepperates it from Marvel. Yeah they might lose some viewers as kids cant watch it but thats what I like about DC. I feel thats the way it should be. ButI wonder how violent this movie will actually be. I atleast want Joker to kill a few people haha.

Joaquin’s performance looks incredible and the cinematography looks beautiful, how can people be criticising this? Sure, he has big shoes to fill (Heath Ledgers) but it looks promising!

I think on the chicken/egg debate- he is the killer and has inspired copy cats and he is proud of them.
This is going to be the defining Joker for this generation. Just as the others were for theirs. So AWESOME.

I'm okay with portraying Thomas Wayne as more of a villain. Telltale did something interesting with that. For the first two episodes at least. For the rest of the series, they didn't do much with it.

I never considered the possibility that the clowns are already a strong protesting presence in Gotham City and Arthur is inspired by them as opposed to him inspiring them, that's an interesting point of view and makes a lot of sense...

I think I see underscores of mistreatment of mental illness, the struggling underclasses, causing Gotham to implode as the Joker influences the city into chaos
I agree with you I don't care for villifying Thomas Wayne. Maybe it will be an unreliable narrator situation where it's only the Joker's version of the story. I'm not a fan of knowing his precise origin anyway.
Every shot in the trailer is so masterfully crafted. This movie is either going to be below average, or a masterpiece and one of the best movies of 2019. I’ll really hope for the better of the two

They need to stay dark and adult. be your own and stop trying to mimic or keep up with Marvel. We need DC to be who they are, its more artistic and entertaining. But they really need to just be who they are.

Great commentary Ms Randolph. One aspect nobody I don’t think anyone touched on. This Joker is frail, thin, hunched over and very weak. By the end of each trailer, Arthur is standing confident as if he found something that is all his own. No matter how damaging or destructive.
I know a lot of stuff has been popping up this week, but will you be covering the theme park news from D23 and how it may correlate to the Disney-Sony relationship?

I’m grateful this will be a more grounded take on the popular villain. The budget for “Joker” is around $55 million, so it doesn’t need to gross a billion dollars to be hugely successful.
