    I don’t think Kendall understood the things Sarah was saying and pointing out, but I think this is the perfect dynamic to have bc it just pushes us (everyone listening) to hear out different perspectives in a respectful manner.

    Obsessed with how hard y’all went in this episode! Some of the comments seem bothered over Kendahls opinion or that y’all are at odds but I’m loving this respectful back and forth it’s very attention grabbing and it’s the most you guys have ever stayed on topic too I think😂 I love this episode it really made me think

    Celebrities don’t owe you their time, if you want to talk to them pay for the meet and greet. Done.

    The 'it is what it is" mentality is why Roan set the boundaries. Just because being a celebrity right now means that people are constantly invading your privacy and personal space, doesn't mean that HAS to be like this. That's why she is asking. Roan asking this is how we eventually get people asking for consent. Her creating art does not mean she loses her autonomy.
    I feel like Kendahl's missing this point this whole episode.

    I’m surprised to see so many comments seeing Sarah and Kendahl’s conversation as oppositional rather than complementary. To me they were talking about 2 different sides of the same coin. Sarah is talking about the ethics of celebrity boundaries and how we can approach the topic from a progressive viewpoint that hopefully (and at least in the interim for Chappell specifically, seems to be actually) changes things. While as Kendahl was discussing how things are currently and what Chappell’s expectation should be regardless for Chappell’s own actual safety - I think it was coming from a place of concern and needing a realistic expectation of the situation to ensure her safety in the here and now. I agree with both.

    I dont understand why people feel entitled to people’s time, attention, etc. If a person is not in working in their professional capacity, leave them alone.

    I also want to note how princess Diana’s death changed paparazzi culture in Britain and I’m assuming subsequently affected celebrity culture there. I’m not from Britain so I don’t actually know how much it’s changed.
    My point being, when people say, “well she wanted to be famous, and when you reach that fame, that’s just how it is.” Right now of course its kind of “expected” but that doesn’t mean we can’t change celebrity culture, and that celebrities can’t comment on how weird it is. I just hope it doesn’t take another tragic event like Diana’s death to cause that turning point.

    Still listening, but @ kendall
    ; my view is, just because it’s the norm, doesn’t mean it should continue to be so. We need to de-pedestal celebrities in a radical way. The only reason it comes with the territory is because we’ve accepted that these people are a product

    I thought it was weird how Kendahl kept minimizing the number of people who are very famous,they'll only give this advice to 7 people in the world, give or take. But there's honestly a LOT more people-celebrities who are at Sabrina Carpenter or Chappell Roans level and above. Celebrities are people,people who treat them like they're not real human beings are also people. We should be taking more accountability for what we do.
    I think this alienating perspective where it's only few people amongst the whole world,(maybe they meant usa,point very much stands tho) is why they weren't able to understand why we should self reflect on why we are treating a human being who is famous in a certain way. Whether it's the entitlement or worshipping. Thinking it's only 7 or even just 20 people in that position might make you think the harm is not significant, but it is. And it trickles down to less and less popular celebrities(authors,youtubers,tiktokers, etc) because we have accepted a certain mindset towards famous people already. I have nothing againts Kendahl. I really like her,she and Sarah's conversation flows so smoothly and in a very wholesome way.

    In media law there is a specific definition of what a “public figure” is. When you become a public figure you lose certain privacies and rights. Not saying it’s right, but there is a legal difference between a public and private figure. Love chapel and think it is totally fine to create boundaries, but Certain things can not be avoided with fame.

    • @elalala576
      @elalala576 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +14

      Things that can't be avoided,a lot of them are what we as people are doing,and it's time for a perspective change and self reflection for every individual,on what they do to famous people. At the end of the day famous people are not public property even if it's so easy to feel like they are.

    Wow for once in Ken’s side. Because fans are bonkers. The bigger the fan base the more so the odd that’s a stalker will hunt you down. She needs security team. Sarah is delusional to think standing a boundary with millions of strangers will fix it for all celebs. Brittany had some fans that respected her boundaries but a lot that didn’t.

    • @juliacrocker178
      @juliacrocker178 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      I don't think that's what Sarah thinks. No, one person setting a boundary is not going to fix the problem for all celebrities. Of course not. But if more of them start feeling comfortable speaking up about how uncomfortable it is being hounded by fans all the time then maybe we can start to move the needle towards it being safer for them

    I think you have to think she’s been wanting this for years. She even talks about how she was ready to quit because her career was not taking off. So she did want this and now that it is happening she doesn’t. Like no there are things that go to far that no one should have to deal with but it can happen maybe this career is just not for her it’s not for everyone. I think I think of people like Zendya like she found a perfect way to come out give everyone a moment of her then leave but she still gives off that she appreciates her fans. I just think there is a balance with that life style. I know you are bring up random people having this happen to them but also they are not asking for fame where Chappell is. I really just think it’s not black and white. I fully agree with Kendahl!

    • @ambrose_the_friendly_ghost
      @ambrose_the_friendly_ghost 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Also think of like Kendahl said Sia or like Orville peck they covered their faces so they are able to do more normal things in their day to day. But if you show your face and then say well sometimes I’m not this person like how would fans know what time is which. And it seems like even when she is “Chappell” she still does not want anyone to talk to her. She does not have to keep performing but she wants to be famous and unfortunately with that comes fans and weirdos. I agree I think she needs to get security and try and find a balance with her fans. She deserves safety but people are going to be excited to see you.

    • @popcorn1304
      @popcorn1304 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

      I think wanting to be an artist and being able to financially sustainable yourself on something you love may be more of what she wanted. Also thinking you want to be famous and then actually living that experience are two separate things.
      Ps I find it hard to believe we don't know when she's being a regular person and when she's performing. Question 1 to ask yourself: is she on a stage with a mic and singing dressed as the statue of Liberty? Backstage doing a meet and greet? Or is she at a Chili's having a meal with her fam/ friends. Context clues y'all!

    1:07:00 I LOVE this comparison of the mom locking herself/themselves in the bathroom to get "freedom" from overly demanding and unfair circumstances, or presenting as queer in public. Risk aware while living within oppressive circumstances doesn't mean we consent to the oppressive state of things. And that doesn't mean we also aren't welcome (and encouraged, if you ask me!) to challenge those circumstances, and try to make widespread change, or at least change in our own little bubbles and cultures.
    Let's all be careful to avoid the classic thought stopping fallacy of "It's always been this way, and it will always be this way."
    That's just factually and historically inaccurate, and is something that has been utilized for CENTURIES to impede progress, and it's a tool given to us by oppressive systems to keep us from making changes for the better. You'd be SHOCKED at how much wonderful, beautiful change can be made even with things that seem immovable as mountains.
