One of the best moments at work today was talking to my boss about the game. He said “yeah Edmonton is losing. The issue is that when the oilers are on the panthers, the panthers move their feet. When the panthers are on the oilers, the oilers sometimes glide or wait to be hit instead of expending that extra energy and pushing to give themselves space.

Panthers fan here. They shift often but have been doing the same lines all year. Verhaeghe switches between the first and second line. Bennett and Tkachuk always on the second. Barkov and Reinhart always on the first. Rodrigues has been up and down the lineup. They have also switched Okposo and Lorentz for Lomberg and Cousins a couple of times in the playoffs.

I like the Utah jerseys. And I think they went with black and white to not tie to specific color already. If it was light blue right away, they would've limited space for actual long-term designs.
The Utah colour scheme does NOT suck. You don't need to have 18 different colours on a jersey so that it resembles a Grateful Dead tie dye tee-shirt. I like these a lot. A jersey that's too busy is ugly.
The guys gotta remember too it’s the first year for Fanatics making the jerseys, at least Vegas and Seattle had a year or two to get their logos and jerseys ready

This year instead of talking about the story, Bobs unbeatable, its omg what a deep team, how complete, much wow. Its the same team that wins the cup every year. And completely ignore Forsling who was only the best defensive defenseman (best plus/minus) this season on a team that isn't a high scoring team. Anyone saying Florida doesn't have a top defenseman is just plain missing the point. Sure he's not up for the Norris trophy but let's not fool ourselves into thinking the Norris is a measure of defensive ability.
@jetsniper it can be. When your the best plus minus defenseman in the league, on a team that doesn't score a lot of goals, it means noone is scoring when you're on the ice. The number may not be an indicator, but taken in context it can (and does) mean something.
I’m surprised no one has mentioned that the Canucks gm patrick Alvin has said earlier that the Canucks will wear the black and white skate jerseys for next year or was I pranked by Twitter lmao
Random fact. My dad played against Tim Thomas in 92, in the state championship final for highschool hockey. That game went to double overtime, Tim had a 60 save shutout and was absolutely unreal. Cool story
This could be the first time since 1998 a team sweeps the SCF, Tampa had a chance in 2021 but it really looks like Panthers could pull this one off. Oilers just got a bad matchup in the Final, it seems.
Do you think it came up in interviews before the Capitals bought CapFriendly and hired the guys who helped create it? Or when Vegas bought GeneralFanager and hired Tom Poraszka? “Now, before we complete this multimillion-dollar transaction, we just have one question for you Tom: have you ever touched the Stanley Cup, a Cup ring, or that weird Molson Canadian beer from a couple of years ago that they said was dipped by the Cup before being bottled? You realize The Habs had 5 years that they were allowed to skip first round and instead take 2 players from Quebec. First 2 years they declined. 3rd year they took Hule and some unknown. They declined next 2 years. Enough already that they had advantage
This is the water crest for this Edmonton roster. McDavid and Draisaitl will continue to dominate but Holland has not given the rest of the roster the tools or functional salary to sustain this.
HOW DARE YOU SLANDER SAINT PATRICE SIR But no I'm a Bruins fan and I don't think I've ever seen Bergeron negate the opposing teams most dangerous player in every single series the way that Barkov has. The only one that comes to mind is when the team held Crosby, Malkin, Iginla, Letang & Co POINTLESS through 4 games. The entire team scored 2 goals through all four games. Unthinkable.
I don't think Lou Lamoriello necessarily said "screw you guys, I'm outta here" to the Leafs. He left because he still had the drive and the energy to be an NHL GM even at his age. The Islanders job was available and he took it, can't fault him for that.
I am watching all the Stanley Cup episodes now after Game 6 (had them up in tabs and hadn’t gotten around to them). Your takes on the Panthers were accurate. They are very well built and talented all around. But Oilers were and are a lot better than they were given credit for. Game 1’s one sidedness got overwritten by Panthers winning game 2 and a close game 3. Bob carried them a bit and he couldn’t keep it up against this level of attack. And Oilers toned back the turnovers a bit which were a main source of Panther scoring. Now, I’d say Oilers are actually favorites for the Cup. But none of what you guys said was wrong at the time. Fortunately, Oilers do have a superstar (likely future Norris winner) d man so if we win, the tradition of elite d man on winning team can continue.
This is also where the baseball fan in me just revels so much against Jesse’s attitude on things like the “deserve to win” o meter. None of these analytics and advanced stats are perfect. But the team who creates more high danger chances (and higher percentage per possession would limit some of the score effect too) often is the better team that game. Panthers did fall off only creating minimal chances each game in comparison to Oilers. The scales balanced again. That is what advanced stats tell you. Not outcome of individual games but outcome of multiple. Over just 7 games, still small sample and not guarantee to hold up. But in general, I think the Oilers have been the better team this series and they have shown it by forcing the game 7.
