Jessie has a fair point that a lot of the McDavid hype is being based on two games, but if you're going to say "What about everything Barkov did in the previous three series" you have to extend that to McDavid as well. He started the playoffs with a five assist game against the Kings, and had at least a point every game that series. Vancouver probably contained him the best, but he still scored 9 points in 7 games including three points in game 6 with the Oilers back against the wall. Finally McDavid was all over the Western Conference Final -- starting the series by scoring the 2OT winner, and ending the series with that fantastic goal around Miro Heiskanen in game 6. The highlight stat shouldn't just be eight points in the last two games. It should be the fact that McDavid has 15 points in the six(!) games where the Oilers or their opponents could be eliminated, with the Oilers being six-for-six in those games.
I think Jesse’s point would be more salient if the Conn Smythe was the trophy for MVP of the FINALS, but yeah you gotta take the whole playoffs into consideration
Feel like Jesse contradicted himself on the Connor Smythe talk. Said since Leach set a major record it makes sense to give it to him, yet didn't acknowledge that Connor has already broken the assists record and is above 40 points too. Seems similar enough to me. It's also an award for MVP of entire playoffs and uh... Connor has double the points Barkov does as well as absolutely dragging this team to some win when the squad was behind. To me, Connor is the playoff MVP full stop.
More to the point even if it's true, that means the goals that were happening when he was on the ice were happening from people of lesser quality since those you've listed are pretty much the top of what was around. So I mean, that's cool, that's cool, but I don't think that stat is quite the win you think it is.
They do a full segment extolling McDavid for not just being 5 points shy of Gretzky’s playoff points record but also breaking the all-time record for assists in one playoff year, and Jesse’s still, “Nah, Barkov should get the MVP.” Common Jesse Blake L.
And then saying mcdavid needs to break an all time record in order to be in contention… is he forgetting that McDavid literally already did that with the Playoff Assists record? And by multiple assists at this point.
The gap between McDavid and the second-best player in the nhl is equivalent to the distance between Sunrise and Edmonton. To have 8 points in back 2 back SCF games whilst going against BARKOV is bonkers, truly one of the best players ever to put on skates. Florida needs to match Edmonton’s desperation for a full 60 minutes. Edmonton has really outworked them frankly to every loose puck and have made the better plays. Its going to be a great game 6.
Barkov has been on ice for 3 points mcdavid has put up all series lol. You are really wrong about that. He was on the ice for the empty net goal but he wasn't marking mcdavid on that because that wasn't his man

Jesse is almost acting like McDavid hasn't also been great the whole playoffs like Barkov. If McDavid finishes with like double the points Barkov or Tkachuk get and doesn't win the Conn Smythe, it'll just look funny. I know points aren't everything, but we're talking about Connor McJesus here.
People lose sight sometimes that it's an MVP of the playoffs award, not MVP of the finals. If McDavid finishes with double the points of any Panther and sets all these records, there's no way he isn't the playoffs MVP.
Yeah I'm a bit confused on that as well. McDavid and Barkov have both played 3 rounds. I get that he had 8 points in 2 games but, he was miles ahead even before those two games. I just feel like rivaling the best playoff performances of all time should win you that trophy whether this ends in 6 or 7.

McDavid has 11 points and is +4 in 5 games. Again this series alone. More than double the offense and besting him Defensively. How is Barkov even a conversion as a playoffs on the whole or just this series. Either way McDavid is crushing him.

Yes and No, You have to take in account in the 80s there was no such thing as interference, you could open ice hit, there was much more hooking and holding. Goalies could play the puck. The rules of the game today is to allow skilled players to do their thing. Equipment has improved, skates are better, not playing with solid wood sticks anymore. You're right goaltending changed from stand up to Butterfly and it's much harder to score if you get to the net. But getting to the net is easier and the speed of a shot is faster. Think there is advantages and disadvantages in each era that makes this records incredible.

Jesse the con smythe is technically for the whole playoffs and McDavid set records and only has Gretzky and Lemieux ahead of him in the record books. It clear its McDavid had the better playoffs. It disingenuous to say McDavid has only 2 good games in the finals but compare Barkovs prowess in the other rounds when Connor McDavid set the record for most assists in a playoffs.
Why you might also remember Kyle Maclean is because he scored his 1st NHL goal against the Leafs this year on a really nice move when a puck found him coming out of the box. The Isles also have his dad as an assistant coach (for now) and there was a nice moment that went semi-viral about his dad's reaction to it trying to hold back being too excited
Sens fan here: I don't think that they should buy out Korpisalo this summer. Ottawa had the 31st worst save percentage and goals saved above expected in the league and Korpi was a big part of that, but it is highly likely that there is some regression to the mean next year. If you look at Korpi's actual goals against vs expected goals against categorized by how dangerous the shot was he was by far the worst against low danger shots. He was actually pretty good against high danger chances, but was completely abysmal against low-percentage shots. That feels like something that can be improved by working with the goalie coach. It's hard to make someone more athletic and acrobatic than their physical tools allow; it is at least plausible to make some technical adjustments that improve performance on 'easy' saves.
Pretty sure Draisaitl Back is still screwed from that Cross Check to the back by Tyler Myers against Vancouver. He's not moving right, his skating is off his one timer of. He's still reading the play well and passing well. But he's just not moving right. Pretty sure he's injured. You can stand in one spot on a busted ankle and fire home that one timer from the side. But a back? It's going to effect your faceoffs skating and swing through on a shot. I don't think he's going to come on now. Tkachuk and Bennett keep running him. No way he heals an injury like that while playing.
If the Panthers win the Cup and McDavid gets the Conn Smythe, I'd wager he's gonna hate that trophy and will probably mean nothing to him. The only goal is the Cup. I'm not a fan of any player on the losing team winning the Conn, no matter how great of a performance.
MLSE can pay the bonus (Due July 1 between 00:01 - 23:59) right after midnight and still trade Marner before Noon July 1. And if the return includes a player with a signing bonus due July 1, MLSE could also agree to pay that, increasing the trade return. Just ask your friends Rachel Doerrie and Mike Stephens.
My God, you guys. You're supposed to know something about hockey history, no? Reggie Leach scored the 19 goals in 3 rounds of the 76' playoffs when the bullies were going for their 3rd straight. The Flyers got swept by the Habs in the final that year, it didn't go to 7. That 76' final was really important in the history of the league. Watch Jacques Lemaire's interview on Chris Nilan's podcast. He talks in depth about it.
I’m not sure why the guys are so shocked at the return for Dellandrea. He’s almost 24 years old, was a healthy scratch more often than not this year, barely played and contributed in the playoffs, and didn’t even break double digits in points. Saying it was a fleece is quite a stretch.
the flames are signaling a rebuild but this trade isn't the one you make to start it. it seems like the expectation is a 5 year plan. is their a big name prospect coming up soon?
1:24:13 So what ur telling me is LA is cheering for Florida or at least the management is and then PLD is PRAYING Edmonton hits 7..... Oh wait none of this matters as PLD'S been traded to the Caps for Darcy Kemper (which when u look at the contracts is almost contract for contract)
I don't think Adam could've got more wrong on his report on the euros. The Netherlands in fact did not play against Germany, they are 1-0 as of rn and the Scottish fans have been the best so far lol
Why is no one talking about Evan Bouchard +/- 12 for 2nd place this year. 1st overall in defenseman assists in a playoff year at 26, passing Paul Coffey. Last playoffs he was 1st in playoff points in only 12 games.
Jesse is out of his mind. Most ridiculous take I’ve ever heard. Barkov was pointless and -2 in the last two games. Not even point per game in the finals. Mcdavids consistent all playoffs carrying games. This Jesse dude is off his rocker lmao
so if Im Celebrini I wwould get that degree because u don't know for sure if ure going to have a long career and its better to have that safety net imo.
No way Connor doesn't win the Conn Smythe especially after Bob fell off in games 4 and 5. Dude has basically willed the Oilers to vicory these past 2 games + one of the best playoff point totals ever! He deserves it regardless of whether or not the Oilers complete the comback.
You guys were being too hard on Conroy. Goalie trades are historically underwhelming and worse, Markstrom had a No Trade Clause. He got to pick his spot and it was public so New Jersey had all the cards. Markstrom doesn’t want to be in a rebuild. Also Markstrom had zero value in 2023 so they had to trade him now. He’s historically a good year, bad year, goalie so they got something for an asset which is something they never would have gotten in years past. While freeing up a position for the best goalie in the A to develop at the nhl level. You guys have Treliving at the wheel and Marner with an NMC. You’ll see ;). That Monahan move was something he did so he could sign Kadri.
As a Dutch person living in Edmonton, I am having the time of my life

McDavid is doing this in a much higher skill era. From goalies, to d to offense. He is above and beyond the best player to ever play the game

Overtime will kill me as an Oilers fan.
Surprised people arent talking more about adam blowing "who he play for" 😂😂 so funny, seems like something well see in a compilation.
Baby dangle. I can’t!
16:18 Jesse went full returd. Sorry buddy, l love you! But that was an absolutely mental take.
Adam had the Oilers score right (5), but a little high on the Panther's goal scoring. They only got 1.
I may be deluded, but Adam looks like he's been hitting the gym. HARD!
She's an absolute doll baby. ❤❤❤
I actually really like the new Ducks jerseys!!!
I didn't know there was a team called the Ghost Pirates. I was a ghost pirate for Halloween when I was 5.
My Dutch fans are the best. I’m born in Netherlands but now Canadian. Go Oilers Go! Go Holland Go!!
1. Bob Hartley
2. Glen Gulutzan
3. Bill Peters
4. Jeff Ward
5. Darryl Suter
6. Ryan Huska
7. Babcock
8. Vincent
9. New coach?
...
Pachal was in Vegas and was a waiver claim by the flames. His name is pronounced pah-hal but his nickname is pickles lmao
The video on Netherlands fans was fun to see.
37:29 They don’t blow the whistle after goals in the NHL Adam
I’m not sure why the guys are so shocked at the return for Dellandrea. He’s almost 24 years old, was a healthy scratch more often than not this year, barely played and contributed in the playoffs, and didn’t even break double digits in points. Saying it was a fleece is quite a stretch.
Gripper Nation In the Cut
Sarge is still the Batallion mascot
Conner Smythe McJesus. So it is written so shall it be. This is the way. Amen
Baby!!
Remember when some people said Connor was a bad captain🤔🤔🤔
That Florida reporter who said he was the most overrated player.
So why has no one pointed out Campbell had a good season in Bakersfield and he never got brought up again after oilers got good
Because Pickard was winning games all year. Why would they?
Dude has the cutest kid
Nobody deserves the cup more on these 2 teams more than McDavid. He's toiled away on a terrible team for years.
the flames are signaling a rebuild but this trade isn't the one you make to start it. it seems like the expectation is a 5 year plan. is their a big name prospect coming up soon?
oh. the new arena
he better saves some pucks markstrom
80s oilers were the rangers in 94 without gretz.
Anaheim is in Orange County, not near by
Dangle is right. Kicks in the balls. If you don't survive it's okay. I'm sure a computer can just recreate you. It's just as good.

I don't think Adam could've got more wrong on his report on the euros. The Netherlands in fact did not play against Germany, they are 1-0 as of rn and the Scottish fans have been the best so far lol
The ducks jersey needs some purple.
Adam is right, though, the Dutch football fans absolutely rule!
Why is no one talking about Evan Bouchard +/- 12 for 2nd place this year. 1st overall in defenseman assists in a playoff year at 26, passing Paul Coffey. Last playoffs he was 1st in playoff points in only 12 games.
He's 24
Adam is right solid 9 on the deserve to interesting O'Meter
Jesse is out of his mind. Most ridiculous take I’ve ever heard. Barkov was pointless and -2 in the last two games. Not even point per game in the finals. Mcdavids consistent all playoffs carrying games. This Jesse dude is off his rocker lmao
Are teams allowed to include $$$ in trades anymore? Marner + $7.5 mil = big trade package return
Look at the blue eyes🌠
so if Im Celebrini I wwould get that degree because u don't know for sure if ure going to have a long career and its better to have that safety net imo.
FYI..-playoff McDavid points..he would be 8th on the leaf roster
thats 9 coaches ...
