Just came back to the trailer after seeing the movie, did you notice the deleted scene at 2:08? Looks like the scene where Strickland forces his coworker to give up his car was initially going to take a more drastic turn
A lot of people talk about how horrible this movie is, but I bet they haven't even seen it. It's a masterpeice! A truly beautiful take on a fairy tale romance.
This movie was hauntingly beautiful and captured the spirit of the early 1960’s to a T. I also like how the message here is one of tolerance-the idea that if we have time to get to know each other, we can look past people who are different from us and see each other for the common humanity of it all. I remember when this came out, I was 18 and had just finished my first semester of college.
When this movie came out I was in middle school, and from seeing the ads for it I was very uninterested, but I’m 18 now, just finished my first semester of college coincidentally, when this movie popped up in my head and I decided to watch it. Very beautiful, it really moved me.
He said in multiple interview that he love Bioshock 1-2. His the perfect director for that, as long the original writers of the story help him with the script we got one hell of a series.
It has to be rated R though. In 2017, previous set director Verbinski said after Deadpool, a rated-R movie isn't too far from reality. Hopefully it goes through!
The marketing is absolutely perfect from what I see right now. If anyone else got their hands on this footage and was asked to make a trailer, they would market it as a horror film, similar to like Crimson Peak, another Guillermo Del Toro film. Crimson Peak wasn't really a horror film like it was marketed, more of a romance. And props to whoever edited this, didn't spoil *too* much, made me ask questions, and it looks like a weird fairy tale romance XD Will definitely go and see this...
Yeah it is. Eats eggs, likes classical music, made by same director, based on Hellboy comics that basically have the same name (The Shape of Things). Pretty sure it's my boy Abe.
This movie is one of the best romances I ever saw , its narration, acting ,music, cinematography ...eveverything is perfectly perfect .Loved it & its message.
Usually, I dislike when a trailer lasts too long showing much of the movie giving away most of the story, but I don't feel like this trailer did any of that. In fact, this was so well done I'm more than interested. I have to see this movie, especially because Guillermo del Toro directed.
pavan junaid, I know I've seen at least one other movie very similar to this, but nothing comes to mind right now. Maybe I'm lying to myself. Trying to remember. I'll get back to you.
Just left the theater! I fell in love with the depth of this whole priceless film. I wasn't expecting this film to just blow my heart away! Guillermo del toro you really outdid yourself on this, i truly appreciate the heart and soul you put into your masterpieces! Best film in years period. If you haven't seen this great film, please do yourself a favor and go spend whatever admission price you usually pay at your local theater to see this gem, you deserve the experience.
If this were Guillermo's only life achievment, it would surely be enough. A lovely creation. Detail is to the utmost accomplishment. Cast & characters are purrfect as is the soundtrack. A New favorite for me. Fortunately we may expect more creations from this Wizard.
First time to watch this movie, and brought me to tears. It was aesthetically done. From the setting, the colors, the design and music. Guillermo del Toro did outdone himself. Love without prejudice, between a human and a sea creature. Sets in the 60s. Shows serious topics from that era, Racism, Homophobia, Misogyny.
I didn't get why people would dislike this movie and call it bestiality when clearly humans always loved the mythic creatures.Nymphs, mermaid ect. There have been a lot of movies even Asian ones portraying the love between a man and a snake woman Orochihime, the movie siren and a lot a lot of others. This is just one more movie in the collection of diverse. The movie was good, nuff said-
@@srfrgrl1983 Don't tell me you don't have some kind of guilty pleasure. Every human does. This movie touches on that long before it begins to hint at an actual sexual attraction. Take furries/scalies for an example. Yeah, the hardcore ones are a weird community, but that's because they've learned to embrace their guilty pleasure pertaining to humanoid creatures and don't hide it like most people do. (Not saying everybody is a furry, just saying that everybody has some kind of fetish that they usually don't tell anybody). Oh and by the way, the fishman is not an animal. He has a humanoid form; he is humanized like a furry/scaly. There are sexy and objectified woman beast-characters that are far less humanoid, and nobody seems to have a problem with that. Sexism, much?
Caleb Guice the problem is, people tend to not see great original films and then original films don't make money. For example, The Nice Guys last year. However, this years Baby Driver and Get Out are making money so there's that.
I think people are slowly starting to realize they want originality. I loved The Nice Guys, but was super disappointed it didn't do well at the box office. But I'm glad to see Baby Driver and Get Out do well. Maybe a few years from now creativity will be the big sellers.
Luisa Ciriaco she is an Oscar nominated but I don' t think it's her time yet, unfortunately. I think Frances McDormand is gonna be the winner this year, which is also great 'cause she is another amazing actress and definitely deserves it just as much
I agree they should make that magnificent game into a movie for us to enjoy but above all if they do make it as minimally fucked up as possible like limit the amount of bs and mistakes so that we all could still enjoy it to the fullest. Considering that this was a masterpiece of the same sorta feel as Bioshock I would hope Del Toro would be its director
I can see the lot of people hating this movie . But for those who can think outside the box want something different and original and have a mature mindset give it a shot . I loved it . It’s a poetic modern day Romance with a stoned message and very original.
This looks like it's going to be a love story but knowing it's from the director of pan's labyrinth, I know it's still gonna give me fucked up dreams for years
Just watched it and left the theatre smiling. From the comments I've heard about this movie before going to see it and how some people didn't think it deserved best picture, I was skeptical. But man that movie had me hooked
The best part is that this movie was basically written as a 'fuck you' gesture since Del Toro was turned down to direct the Creature From The Black Lagoon remake, and so he did this to spite Universal
This was better than what Universal could produce. Let them keep their shitty “Dark Universe” crap. In my opinion, this was a Creature from the Black Lagoon sequel.
Del Toro STOLE this idea from a short film written by someone else. He just changed a few things. Del Toro is a LIAR and a scam artist. The Space Between Us by CG Bros.
catinahat40 I knew it!!!! I literally saw a short film with my boyfriend a few weeks ago and I see this trailer and it’s oddly familiar... This is the 'Beauty and the Beast' film from 2017 we needed, not the pointless Disney remake that just copied the animated one without understanding what made it so great! A beautifully made film with fantastic direction and performances, stunning visuals and beautiful cinematography and music, won four Oscars, but I still think Sally Hawkins was robbed of that Best Actress Oscar. As great as McDormand was in 'Three Billboards', the performance didn't stand out to me as much as Hawkins in this film, who said so much without saying anything.
The Shape of Water is like a Rorschach test. 1. Romantics see it as a unique love story that also is an ode to 30’s-60’s cinema in style and filming technique 2. Literary and visual arts folks see a cornucopia of symbolism and color analysis that will keep film students busy for a couple of generations 3. Fans of del Toro's talent see a master director who can create and then tell a strangely bizarre story while bringing very talented actors and crew to even greater heights than anyone thought possible 4. Political junkies (and I am a white/hetero male on the center-right) see it as a call for a more civil discussion both politically and socially. 5. Those who come straight from alt-right and illuminati sites call it a "beastiality" film - but won’t likely see how (*spoilers) two central characters are a male sentient god-like 'creature' and a female who actually is a 'fish out of water- and might lose sight of this as fantasy fiction. 6. Those who find it boring may prefer Transformers or other CGI-heavy flicks 7. Dudes and gals who grew up loving classic and B movie horror see an homage to creature feature films 8. Movie producers see a profitable film with a budget of under $20mil, with production value that appears to exceed $130mil - which is its worldwide ticket sales to date 9. As someone who saw about 4 dozen films in 2017, and have been predicting Oscar winners for years, I see this best pic of 2018 as arguably the best of the Oscar BP winners over the past five years
This movie was a masterpiece a complete form of art. The metaphors are everywhere and it was so beautiful and emotional to see this film. It broke my heart, mend it and broke it again. Beautiful movie and totally deserving of its award
Arlette S es broma?, esta película es pésima, en extremo aburrida y con un argumento demasiado pobre y estúpido. Para colmo el bestialismo que proponen no hace mas que incrementar su ridiculez.

Year 2017 was the best year for movies not even a single movie that was nominated for best picture Oscar which I didn’t like. I’m so glad that this movie won the best picture not just because this was created so beautifully but also it breaks all that prejudices that which kind of films can win the Oscar.
It's regurgitation. Stolen ideas from other movies. Beauty and the best, splash, creature from the black lagoon.... need more? Nothing original didn't deserve any awards.
It eats eggs, listens to classica music and the time period would be right for the Hellboy team to find him after they found Hellboy in 1940's. This is ABE SAPIEN !!!
The movie is set in 1963 and I'm already convinced that this is either Abe or his father. Too excited for this movie and another Hellboy would be great.
This movie was so beautiful ❤️ Just finished watching it and my heart is happy. I love how the main character is beautiful in a different way and very likeable and quirky. She doesn't look like a supermodel but her beauty is so fragile. And also, SPOILER ALERT: The film also tackles racism and homosexuality, the patriarchy and even how plenty of men seem bored with their beautiful and perfect housewives. Like, so many issues tackled but never too distracted to sway from the main plot which is that two beings love each other without prejudice. There's also love in friendship too. Love love loved it ❤️
It does not tackle racism or homosexuality. The racism is spoken about for maybe 30 to 60 seconds & the gay thing was just a gesture & never mentioned again. Stop it lmao
Beautiful movie with such an extraordinary love story...I don't know why I just cried while watching the whole movie...Such a touching story...Loved it...The music, actors, cinematography everything they just nailed it😍😍
I just watched this today on HBO and i was speechless . The movie was so beautiful , the story line , the characterization and the execution . Everything was flawless. Love is indeed the universal language . Love from philippines 💙
This is called the shape of water as reference to love, water has no shape just like love, you can find love anywhere, anyhow... just like Elisa found it in that creature.
This movie is a masterpiece. I am such a huge Guillermo Del Toro fan, from Crimson Peak to Mama, he never fails to deliver a stellar film, especially this one. Poignant, powerful and captivating. This is one of the very best. Hats off to the one and only, Guillermo Del Toro.
Lol, I know. He was a part of it though. He was the executive producer as I remembered nonetheless when I saw his name on the screen I knew it was going to be a bomb ass movie if his name was there
Abe Sapien. The similarities are too striking: both this creature and Abe are played by Doug Jones, both have empathetic abilities it seems, and both love eggs and classic music. Either this is an unofficial prequel to Guillermo's Hellboy films or the first entry in the new Hellboy films.
Unfortunately the new hellboy films arnt going to be directed by Guillermo and pretty sure he isn't really allowed to do any films in the old universe, but maybe Guillermo will direct some in the new universe but not the main ones
Hey look, it's the guy who goes onto the trailer for every movie that exists and says it "shows the entire movie", even though he's incorrect every single time.
I love this trailer. It's enough to give me the basics of what the film is about, but doesn't give away too much that you feel like you've seen the whole thing. It captures you, and really convinces you to watch. I also love the film. I've seen it twice in theaters and I got upset when today I discovered that it's no longer showing because I wanted to watch it again. It's now one of my ultimate favorites (along with V for Vendetta).
For those lacking of some perspective, here it is: ! This movie is an allegory of what happens in real life! - The representation of the "worst" of society: The monster, the mute person, the gay man, the black cleaning lady, etc. The negative reaction YOU, the spectator, are having towards the relationship between the sea monster and the girl is exactly the reaction people had, and still have, towards those marginalized members of society. Crazy! Those of you who find this gross or unacceptable are a meta-projection of the theme of the movie itself.
Best response, spot on. Those that don't get it, well, maybe you're living in a bubble and don't see what's going on around you in society! This interview with Del Toro will give you more perspective th-cam.com/video/-iPgS-xnncc/w-d-xo.html

Praetorian HiJynx it's a prequel in spirit that egg and music thing is a give away in my opinion watch the people holding him be or have a similar name to bereau of paranormal research
Guillermo has an imagination to take fantasy and drama to another level. People make fish jokes, hey let's not forget Ariel the half human half fish, who loved a human. In Shape clearly Sally's character feels different and not seen for herself, but being mute until she connects with the water creature being held hostage by humans. Both are trapped in a way, but I'll see it to fully understand the film
Guillermo del Toro is one of the few directors whose works I really enjoy so anytime I find out it's his movie or show I already know I'm going to give it a try without even having to watch the trailer, also anything Steven king related.
This movie is honestly so beautiful, it’s one of my favourite movies. It’s one of the most heartwarming movies I’ve watched and so romantic, it’s made me cry because of how beautiful this story is. It’s so romantic, ❤️
Well it's not like this is an overly complex story line. It's just a classic human and monster falls in love plot where they have to overcome obstacles between them. You can't really give away what's already gonna be obvious from the beginning.
How beautiful this movie have done talking about big conversations in two hours straight: - Orphans - Racial discrimination - LGBT - Loneliness - Sexual Abuse - Russian Spy - Normalize Female Masturbation - Creature of God - Patriarchy - Deficiency - Personal Family’s Problematical - Existence - Love Good job all people involved 💙
Kyle White if you think this film was about bestiality then you totally missed the message. Also beauty and the beast was literally a film that nobody has any complaints about
Masturbation is normal for anyone, we just don't want it shoved into our faces in the ways of: ''FEMALES DO IT TOO'', yeah no shit. Just keep it to yourself. Like men do.

Just came back to the trailer after seeing the movie, did you notice the deleted scene at 2:08? Looks like the scene where Strickland forces his coworker to give up his car was initially going to take a more drastic turn
The soundtrack, the acting, the aesthetic, and the allegory of the story itself. Bravo! This movie is a masterpiece
A lot of people talk about how horrible this movie is, but I bet they haven't even seen it. It's a masterpeice! A truly beautiful take on a fairy tale romance.
Meh. I've seen better.
I own it but I wish I'd simply rented it lol

This movie was hauntingly beautiful and captured the spirit of the early 1960’s to a T. I also like how the message here is one of tolerance-the idea that if we have time to get to know each other, we can look past people who are different from us and see each other for the common humanity of it all. I remember when this came out, I was 18 and had just finished my first semester of college.
When this movie came out I was in middle school, and from seeing the ads for it I was very uninterested, but I’m 18 now, just finished my first semester of college coincidentally, when this movie popped up in my head and I decided to watch it. Very beautiful, it really moved me.
After seeing this trailer, Guillermo del Toro should absolutely be the one to DIRECT the Bioshock movie.
He said in multiple interview that he love Bioshock 1-2. His the perfect director for that, as long the original writers of the story help him with the script we got one hell of a series.
Parts of this movie definitely have that vibe.
It has to be rated R though. In 2017, previous set director Verbinski said after Deadpool, a rated-R movie isn't too far from reality. Hopefully it goes through!
Yes it does remind you of Bio Shock
Unusual Mind I would definitely pay to watch that!!!!
Seriously!
They fucked up at 2:08 though. Now we know when one of the major characters dies. (Or is seriously hurt).
.
You should learn to be more objective. Even if you don't like the concept or the idea, it definitely doesn't "look like shit".

Grand Mythic Gaming Do you know more movies like this ?
pavan junaid, I know I've seen at least one other movie very similar to this, but nothing comes to mind right now.
If this were Guillermo's only life achievment, it would surely be enough. A lovely creation. Detail is to the utmost accomplishment. Cast & characters are purrfect as is the soundtrack. A New favorite for me. Fortunately we may expect more creations from this Wizard.

just watch the space between us short film on youtube as the shape of water seems like a direct rip off
First time to watch this movie, and brought me to tears. It was aesthetically done. From the setting, the colors, the design and music. Guillermo del Toro did outdone himself.
Love without prejudice, between a human and a sea creature.
Sets in the 60s. Shows serious topics from that era, Racism, Homophobia, Misogyny.
Falling in love because of the way you make each other feel is a beautiful thing. Can't wait for this movie.
Yolette SaintPreux such a beautiful piece of art
This is easily one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. Guillermo is truly a modern day master. Everything about this film is for film lovers.

The movie was good, nuff said-
Humans...I don't. Stop generalizing what I like.
@@aglayamajorem9546 Don't worry, now even I am against my own comment.
MonKebab KawaiiSupaFupa you gotta say the word diverse.
A mermaid has still boobs and is half human. This is a beast!
So all you care about is boobs ...
I am so happy to see Hollywood greenlight an original film, and from the master of originality himself, no less!
But it looks like its a prequel of Hellboy.
Justin Bates An original film based off of a comic book...
lol
What comic book? This isn't hellboy
I'm so happy they got Sally Hawkins to be the protagonist, I love her, she is really talented and deserve much more attention
Pristosth im just glad it's not Jennifer Lawrence .
Dania well...I have to agree lol
She should have won the Best Actress awards. She's a gem in this movie! 😭
Luisa Ciriaco she is an Oscar nominated but I don' t think it's her time yet, unfortunately. I think Frances McDormand is gonna be the winner this year, which is also great 'cause she is another amazing actress and definitely deserves it just as much
She doesn’t say anything tho
I would love Guillermo to take on a Bioshock movie after watching this. The music, setting, and being underwaters feels like Rapture.
Crazydog500 I also had the same thought. There's something on this trailer that just reminds me Bioshock
Exactly what I was thinking!!!
Ye
Crazydog500. I was thinking the same
I can see the lot of people hating this movie . But for those who can think outside the box want something different and original and have a mature mindset give it a shot . I loved it . It’s a poetic modern day Romance with a stoned message and very original.
So it's ok when a fish f*cks a girl but when I do it it's a crime? Wtf
@@memski9565 Sorry but Sally Hawkins was a fish the whole time in the movie. She had gills. So both were fish
So you’re saying that people who don’t like it are incapable of thinking outside the box and don’t have a “mature mindset”?

I understand what you're saying, but I think you mean you get Jean-Pierre Jeunet vibes from it. An influence that I'm 100% on board with.
The best part is that this movie was basically written as a 'fuck you' gesture since Del Toro was turned down to direct the Creature From The Black Lagoon remake, and so he did this to spite Universal
He also turned down doing a new version of the story of Beauty and the Beast and decided to make his own version of the story with Lagoon

One of the best films I've ever watched in my lifetime! Hats off, Guillermo del Toro!
This was magical.
Seems lovely too.

The Shape of Water is like a Rorschach test.
1. Romantics see it as a unique love story that also is an ode to 30’s-60’s cinema in style and filming technique
2. Literary and visual arts folks see a cornucopia of symbolism and color analysis that will keep film students busy for a couple of generations
3. Fans of del Toro's talent see a master director who can create and then tell a strangely bizarre story while bringing very talented actors and crew to even greater heights than anyone thought possible
6. Those who find it boring may prefer Transformers or other CGI-heavy flicks
7. Dudes and gals who grew up loving classic and B movie horror see an homage to creature feature films
8. Movie producers see a profitable film with a budget of under $20mil, with production value that appears to exceed $130mil - which is its worldwide ticket sales to date
9. As someone who saw about 4 dozen films in 2017, and have been predicting Oscar winners for years, I see this best pic of 2018 as arguably the best of the Oscar BP winners over the past five years
rhythmoriented wow haha, this seems pretty accurate : )
What I liked from this movie was the character development, who's good who's bad, especially Strickland. The bestiality is only like a bonus to me.

This movie was so beautiful ❤️ Just finished watching it and my heart is happy. I love how the main character is beautiful in a different way and very likeable and quirky. She doesn't look like a supermodel but her beauty is so fragile. And also,
SPOILER ALERT:
The film also tackles racism and homosexuality, the patriarchy and even how plenty of men seem bored with their beautiful and perfect housewives. Like, so many issues tackled but never too distracted to sway from the main plot which is that two beings love each other without prejudice. There's also love in friendship too. Love love loved it ❤️

Lol, I know. He was a part of it though. He was the executive producer as I remembered nonetheless when I saw his name on the screen I knew it was going to be a bomb ass movie if his name was there
Well, that completely subjective since we all have different tastes in films
Abe Sapien. The similarities are too striking: both this creature and Abe are played by Doug Jones, both have empathetic abilities it seems, and both love eggs and classic music. Either this is an unofficial prequel to Guillermo's Hellboy films or the first entry in the new Hellboy films.
Grandmaster Popo that's exactly what i was thinking
it's it's own stand alone film that has nothing to do with the hellboy films
btw the records that she shows him are not classical pieces it's Glenn Miller and benny Goodman both are jazz/swing musicians

I’ve watched this movie, i thot it would be some boring love story with lots of talking. But every scene is not boring and it’s actually beautiful and they potray politics at it’s best. No wonder this won an award.
Looks a lot like Abe Sapien from Hellboy. The fact that this is directed by Guillermo del Toro really makes me think he is Abe.
Praetorian HiJynx I thought so too.
Same actor, Doug Jones. He's always playing freaky creatures.
Praetorian HiJynx it's a prequel in spirit that egg and music thing is a give away in my opinion watch the people holding him be or have a similar name to bereau of paranormal research
What if Abe is their child?
anator1000 Yeah the fact that he likes to eat eggs was another thing
Guillermo has an imagination to take fantasy and drama to another level. People make fish jokes, hey let's not forget Ariel the half human half fish, who loved a human. In Shape clearly Sally's character feels different and not seen for herself, but being mute until she connects with the water creature being held hostage by humans. Both are trapped in a way, but I'll see it to fully understand the film
Please note: the mermaid story is really, really old :) Way before Disney.
We have Johnny Deep in Edward Scissorhands he wasn't human and she fell for him, Elliott became best friends with E.T.
Guillermo del Toro is one of the few directors whose works I really enjoy so anytime I find out it's his movie or show I already know I'm going to give it a try without even having to watch the trailer, also anything Steven king related.
This isn't his work. He stole this idea from someone else who created a short film about the same thing.
This movie is honestly so beautiful, it’s one of my favourite movies. It’s one of the most heartwarming movies I’ve watched and so romantic, it’s made me cry because of how beautiful this story is. It’s so romantic, ❤️
Ahh! Those Bioshock vibes! I love it! But damn they showed a bit too much in this trailer.
Tryhard Mercy Main exactly my thoughts i have the feeling that i have Seen the whole movie, but still gonna watch it because of the BioShock vibe
Well it's not like this is an overly complex story line. It's just a classic human and monster falls in love plot where they have to overcome obstacles between them.
You can't really give away what's already gonna be obvious from the beginning.
Holy shit I'm glad I'm not the only one who got major Bioshock vibes.
If only we could get GDT to make a Bioshock movie. That would be amazing. I just hope they keep that set around for future use. LoL.
plot twist: the creature's blood is actually ADAM, then we have Bioshock : The movie

Kyle White if you think this film was about bestiality then you totally missed the message. Also beauty and the beast was literally a film that nobody has any complaints about
The movie was racist.
icedog2999 the movie wasn’t racist
Masturbation is normal for anyone, we just don't want it shoved into our faces in the ways of: ''FEMALES DO IT TOO'', yeah no shit. Just keep it to yourself. Like men do.
Laurens de Groote it wasn’t shoved in our face at all. And also men don’t keep it to themselves, there are plenty of movies where men wank repeatedly
Guillermo Del Toro is a legend for making this film. A great film on love and how everyone deserves love. Even a mute women can love a powerful God. It's all about loving someone. There's no limitations to love.
