Not. The Zimbabwe that I miss is Rhodesia (1965-1980), after 1980 Zimbabwe became from a breadkasket economic power of Africa to failed socialist and dictatorship country, puppet of China and USSR/Russia.
Reality is that Zimbabwe had to write own anthem. This one by a SA brother is a beautiful one for Africa. However, even AU wrote its own anthem. It's all good. We can keep this one to inspire unity across Africa.

So after some research, I came to find out that the song was originally written by a South African man named Enoch Sontonga in 1897. So I assume at their independence, the South Africans asked to reclaim it.
@Judy Rumbwere well I just prefer the old version. And it has greater meaning than the new one. Since I got no time for that research you can as well educate me!
Can't believe I was part of the last generation of students that sang this beautiful prayer and anthem.... 🌾🥰😇🙏🌺

😢😢We should still be standing our nation on these powerful words.
But kutaura chokwadi patakatanga kuimba zvemagamba izvi (simudzai mureza) ndakarwadziwa because Ishe Komborera was a prayer itself. Dai ikadzokazve
The moment they changed this prayer to God 4 Zim and made a national anthem a prayer to the ancestors the economy went down
Bring back this awesome anthem
This was golden age of Zimbabwean history.
Not. The golden age of Zimbabwe was Rhodesia (1965-1980)
I wish this could have remained the anthem 😢😢
That was a touching national anthem
What a lovely prayer
A powerful spirit-filled song
Wow!
It's so similar to that of South Africa (In fact most of the tune is same!)
Its the same, it's a shared anthem. It was the "African National Anthem" back then before we were divided.
It was composed by a South African

Here's the story of Rhodesia
A land both fair and great
On 11th of November
An independent state
This was much against the wishes
Of certain governments
Whose leaders tried to break us down
To make us all repent
But we're all Rhodesians
And we'll fight through thick and thin
We'll keep our land a free land
Stop the enemy coming in
We'll keep them north of the Zambezi
Till that river's running dry
This mighty land will prosper
For Rhodesians never die
They can send their men to murder
And they can shout their words of hate
But the cost of keeping this land free
Can never be too great
For our men and boys are fighting
For the things that they hold dear
That this land and all its people
Will never disappear
'Cause we're all Rhodesians
And we'll fight through thick and thin
We'll keep our land a free land
Stop the enemy coming in
We'll keep them north of the Zambezi
Till that river's running dry
This mighty land will prosper
For Rhodesians never die
We'll preserve this little nation
For our children's children too
For once you're a Rhodesian
No other land will do
We will stand tall in the sunshine
With the truth upon our side
And if we have to go alone
We'll go alone with pride
But we're all Rhodesians
And we'll fight through thick and thin
We'll keep our land a free land
Stop the enemy coming in
We'll keep them north of the Zambezi
Till that river's running dry
This mighty land will prosper
For Rhodesians never die
Yes we're all Rhodesians
And we'll fight through thick and thin
We'll keep our land a free land
Stop the enemy coming in
We'll keep them north of the Zambezi
Till that river's running dry
This mighty land will prosper
For Rhodesians never die
Because we're all Rhodesians
And we'll fight through thick and thin
We'll keep our land a free land
Stop the enemy coming in
We'll keep them north of the Zambezi
Till that river's running dry
This mighty land will prosper
For Rhodesians never die
