    THANK YOU for including the print out of the specs, I grabbed one of these similar models [pcv w500] for $16 at the thrift without a hard drive and ram. Great video 🎉

    This is such a cool machine. I wish they still made contraptions like this with modern hardware. So unique and classy for a sony computer, it almost has a console vibe to it. Great video man!

      I totally agree. They were the only ones in the home PC market that gave apple a run for their money in style. Thanks, Rami! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

    The fact that reviewers didn't even mention the screen just shows how deep the anti-crt push was. People were absolutely prepared to excuse atrocious displays, so long as they were LCDs.
    It was perhaps the largest consumer brainwashing I've ever seen. "The thing we lift every 5 years is much easier to lift now!" was the main selling point. I swear, people lost their minds.

    • @SUCRA
      @SUCRA  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting point of view. The LCD on it has some good to it, viewing angles are fantastic, colors. Negative side, yeah it doesn't do scaling very well. It scales somethings, others it sticks to the software's resolution. It really seems like it was from a time you could have waited a bit before upgrading to an LCD.

    Almost all the VAIO were so beautiful. I really miss the brand. Good vid.

      Definitely, unfortunately when Sony got rid of the "Vaio" division they were never the same again. Thanks, man, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

    Hey. 1. Do you have the recover disc? Can you share it? 2. Can you tell me the name of the vaio software that makes the screen work when is closed?

      @@SUCRA mine has all drivers working on Win XP, I'm working to install Sonic stage but I'm not sure what else is missing. I got the left shortcuts key working too. There was an app for media browsing and one like a vaio personalization layer. I can share what I have if is useful for someone.

    If only we could figure out how to get a PCI graphics card to work through PCMCIA.

    • @SUCRA
      @SUCRA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe there actually is a PCI slot free in there. The trick would be to get something small enough and then to connect it to the monitor.

    My most favourite tech companies of all time are NOKIA and SONY, I would buy anything from them because I trust their products and their decisions, That AIO SONY PC is the sweet spot for those who want something compact but also easy to move from place to place, and since Japanese houses are tight, I see why such a product existed!

    • @SUCRA

      Me too buddy. These Sony PCs are so interesting and cool with their design. There are some flaws but I think it's awesome that they try different things like this.

    Sorry,I need some help with machine like your's.
    Have You some divers and utilities disk for it?
    I have such a machine, but there are probably no suitable drivers on internet.
    There are problems with display stretch

    • @SUCRA
      @SUCRA  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, no problem. I don't have the disk for it no. Someone already asked for it but I just got the system. Maybe I can look into the installed drivers, system32 file or something and make them available if that helps.

      Oh, sorry, You also have such problem with aspect ratio like me! I'm now working on repair an pcv-w20 machine.
      It looks like You also have no special sony drivers.
      It sounds like "sony hotkey utilities".

      @@SUCRA it looks like You also have not original windows system on it(somebody reinstalled system before You've got this interesting machine)
      So with my machine.
      I've repaired broken LCD screen, now I'm working on CPU upgrade and some sort of ssd disk for it.
      I think, we need some sort of sony software, that could fix a problem with aspect ratio.
      Also, this machine had some interesting features: hotkeys on the left side of keyboard and also, with closed keyboard it works like an multimedia clock.
      But these features also need some sort of sony software...(
      Maybe somebody, who have such a machine without any reinstallations of windows XP may help us!

    Huh that is a fascinating machine! Form over function to say the least but it's a neat machine. I'm definitely curious on future upgrades but that scaling appears to be a big issue for retro limiting the use a bit. Awesome video as always!

    • @SUCRA
      @SUCRA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed, it's pretty cool messing with it, although I wish it had a GPU at least a bit better in there. In truth I think the CPU upgrade will do little for it, but in the name of science, I'll gladly go after it! Have a great week my friend.

    That's cool! I miss those Sony's attempts to do something different than the rest of the world but it's really a shame they haven't managed to put in something better than the SiS, even a GeForce2/4 Go would have been significantly better
    P.S. Uhm I may have read about software video scalers some time ago, they are usually used in old laptops that do not scale out of 1:1

    • @SUCRA
      @SUCRA  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree man, that's the lowest point of this system, the onboard GPU. About the scaler, yeah there could be something, but at this point most of us in the community have multiple builds, and with the slow performance, might be better to cherry pick what you run in it. Thanks for watching!

  • @RetroTinkerer
