Nice video, interesting topic! There might be some interest in describing the intermediary steps, eg. how to set up the octocoupler, what to do with the resistor and so on.

Thanks for the video. I followed along, but am only getting the decoded wind related sentences coming through. Apart from those I am getting a lot of $STALK sentences which I have no idea how to decode to be usable.
    Any help greatly appreciated..

Thanks you very much for this clear an interessing video. I bought a Rasberry and also a saling boat .. The second costs much more :)... Do you think I need to do a installation with optocoupler per device ( wind, dept, etc..?
or could we take the seatalk information once from the raymarine tridata and make juste a single connection ?
Please continue your video.. and thanks you in advance for your reply....
    Best trip around the world

Technically no. Seatalk info from all instruments flow through the ST chain. You should be able to add an instrument to the Signal K data stream. I will be performing this task if I get my boat launched in next couple of weeks and I’ll report back.

I wonder how open plotter knows how to convert from a nine bit protocol rather than the NMEA0183 eight bit format. I will have to look into this. Thanks for the demo.

It's a SeaTalk to SignalK plugin which handles the conversion. Since it's not using a UART, I suspect they are using some sort of SoftSerial interface.

Could you make a video about using a fuel gauge or trimsensor on openplotter?
