I've had one from new end of 2017 and have done just over 33,000 miles in it. I agree with a lot of what you said Jay, however what I think needs to be added is the ride. When you are in a rush to get somewhere, it can cover ground like you wouldn't believe, it's the ultimate getaway vehicle My two favourite things about this vehicle are.. 1: it's road presence is such that people really get out of your way, the aggressive but subtle styling seems to radiate to tell people to get out of its way. I feel the C8 styling goes too far in this aim. 2: On a motorway and dual carriageway especially you are on the same performance level as a Porsche 991 turbo S, most Ferrari and Mclaren's. When you have all your luggage in the back and you keeping up with an MP4-12C down the A1 it doesn't half put a smile on your face. After nearly 4 years of ownership I feel like it's time to move on and when I do I know I will miss it.

Glad you liked the car, at the same time not surprised
The Sible Hedingham to Wethersfield road happens to be my favourite test run too. 😁 Nice to see my home village featured, so you've definitely got a new subscriber here James. 👍🏻
Even the older RS6 is tempting, if you need space and comfort. You’re right-engines are better than ever, and if “uncorked”, would be quite something. The WLTP is extremely tight, but still not as tight as what’s coming. We can expect lots of turbos, and electric motors to make up the difference. Anyway, that car is plush and rather lovely. Would love one of these in the stable.
I think Audi got it right with this C7 generation of the RS 6. I love the C8 generation, but this one is still the one I would love to have. It's a 7 year old car, but it's definitely perfect for this modern era of cars.
and way to slow. from the factory all u can get is 270kmh as an option. a fucking civic type r goes 272 and an alpina diesel goes 300. fuck this 250 / 270 limit. such bullshit. what good is a 600hp car if i cant outrun a 200hp diesel on the autobahn. makes me angry.
Probably one of my dream cars. Would get the face-lift for its slightly less running costs. £325 Road tax compared to £570 for the pre face-lift. Only problem like you said is the cost for these. £40k+ isn't cheap unless your earning a good amount and don't have most of the money going towards a mortgage
I remember the day i was Giving my old b16 CRX a good workout on one of my favourite roads and there was a silver transit in front of me driving at the absolute limits for about 8 miles and i just could not keep up without it getting far too silly.
@Unintended Consequences Same here. Revo. Much better but I can still get caught out on the rare occasion. It's a shame we have to pay to get the cars safe. We all vote don't we?
A very good piece. Nicely put together. Sadly, this is the kind of motoring journalism that makes a great car even more popular though. no petrol head watch that and come away wondering if the fancy one of those, or indeed any V8 Audi they can spring for!
audi just doesn't do it for me, not saying they aint good cars but its not gods gift and most people tend to think your some prick in it anyways, which honestly the majority are that ive experienced coming across.
@Kris Nicholson mate everyone gets that ive seen even audi A3's 😂 tryna challenge people in all sorts, my mates fiesta runs 360 hp apparently when he ran it on a dyno but i wasn't there so who truly knows but he has the work to back it up, and off the line its like a fucking rocket, and hes dusted all sorts, i hate fiestas but what im getting at is its not always the car brand that dictates the winner. and not even the car itself. i do like audi's but the only image round here of them is little young dickheads getting them on finance because there dad is paying it whilst they pay the insurance. the RS of any audi are pretty serious cars and i do like them, but they are out of my budget sadly.
WLPT and these stricter emission is going to kill fun. It's also going to keep this model's prices relatively high. There should be a reduction in requirements for say one model if you can offset it with other models. I think it used to be like this, but now it's just a big FU for those wanting some fun in new cars.
I just can’t get excited about cars built over the last 10-15 years....It’s all just too well refined, predictable and robotic. Keep up the good work though James!
Too plastic too disposable. Their complexity will doom them to the junkyard before they hit 200k. Even if you could repair them I doubt parts would be easily sourced after they go out of production
They stopped building cars with character in 2006 imo. My next cars going to be a chaser jzx100 or stagea rs260. There isn't any new car I'd be willing to spend money on. All too samey. And I cant stand those daft screens that do all the cars functions. Just as distracting as using a phone while driving
Augusto O.R True enough and it doesn’t help, but it doesn’t stop at TVR’s. I think back to the cars of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s and every car had character (even the Allegro :) ) Each one easily recognisable from the next. The cars were workable and the layers of performance were distinguishable...like when an i, a V or a turbo really mean’t something. There’s a time and a place for effortless driving and comfort of course, and I like that...but when it comes to today’s performance cars it just doesn’t get my juices flowing. Do I want a robotic performance car that grandma can drive...even if it’s stupid quick....nope!
Try an E63s amg latest generation. I love mine. I had the v10 rs6 and it just felt heavy with a pretty characterless engine note. Loved my 6.2 naturally aspirated amgs, but this new 4 litre turbo isn't far behind in both sound and character.
I am pleased you like my car Jay mine is a C7 in blue with the carbon brakes which stop almost 2 tons incredibly well, not the best feel for brakes but you learn to drive round them, it's only when I swap cars I need to recalibrate... it is the swiss army knife of cars, it just does everything very very well. Perfect no, but I will never never sell it, its just to practical and fun.
Great video, really enjoyed it. Sadly,in a way,it seems slightly academic because I doubt I’ll ever own this car. Owning an S4 took enough of a toll on me! However, one can wish and I certainly do- the RS6 is quite simply my absolute dream car. Thanks again.
I've flogged my RS7 and taken to the drag strip (11.3 BTW). It's completely stock (ATM). No issues. I hear when tuning them some tuners just swan by the torque limits. When in AMAX launch mode the shifts are brutal, but CVs and diffs go when getting towards the design limit of 1,000 Nm. I'm going Revo which should see a safe maximum of 800 Nm, like the new model. If I ever break one then I'll replace it with a stronger item.
Saw this leave following filming as I arrived with my car, what a lovely spec and a monstrous noise. My friend has a slightly older spec one and they’re a proper bit of kit, although a bit long in the tooth now. I’m really excited to see all the reviews of the new RS6 upon launch, try to twist audis arm into letting you have a go in one!!
Great review as usual Jay. How did that 600+ bhp compare to the 600+bhp in your supercharged M3 track car thingamy? I appreciate they're compleeeeetely different cars with different power delivery.
@@JayEmmOnCars, indeed, Quattros rock, and the V-engine twin turbos pull from NO revs. Nothing better for booting it out of a wet roundabout, while other cars struggle and slide before they 'dig in' to the tarmac :-) Currently have a Stage 2 MRC C5 RS6 Avant, but also miss my E39 M5 a bit,....though I couldn't fit my drums in it :D
Good review, if budget is the constraint you might want to consider an RS7. Granted its not an estate but it is the same platform / engine / drivetrain, lighter (if that's a consideration) less were registered in the UK but crucially they are some 10-15% less than an RS6 with better standard equipment levels.
I know this is an old vid but as people do seem to be interested in these I thought I'd throw in the proverbial two bob.. Having owned one of the facelift models of these (aka C7.5) since march I can confirm everything said in this vid apart from one thing, the turbo lag. It *does* exist in this car, and can be really noticeable in certain conditions. When it does happen, it can catch you totally off guard, especially if tuned. Mine is running stage 2 at 720hp but with a slightly lower torque of 940nm when compared with other stage 2's that usually run at around 1000-1100. To be fair I still can't fault it as generally it is ultra responsive while still retaining a typical lazy style of V8 power delivery. This really just means it's effortless in getting to and easily exceeding the speed limits but it is so damn easy to get used to as it does it without most of the drama that similarly powered sports cars will do. With the quattro and sports diff it can easily reign itself back in when it gets a little squirrelly under load and I totally agree with the pops, this can be easily controlled by coming out of sports/dynamic mode before it kicks in but with no driver intervention and miltek sports cat downpipes it can sound like a bloody AK47. To be honest I love a V8 burble with subtle pops but really not into any sort of bangs at all. Other owners will be able to testify about the running costs, I recently paid just over 800 quid for front brakes and 600 for a pair of Michelin PS4s. Going in for oil service and new thermostat this week which will likely be around 1000 or slightly less if the thermostat can be done by accessing from the side arch. Not going near a dealer for obvious reasons. Do I care or see it as a money pit? Not a jot. All of these are consumables which I already knew would be needing done at some point and budgeted for. And compared with the costs of maintaining actual supercars with similar specs my man maths still declare the RS6 to be a bit of a bargain. As the saying goes, those that know, know... 😃
Hi Jay, thanks for calling out what ive been saying for years, turbo lag has not gone away - I've got a rs6 performance and agree it is the better of the bunch but it is still there if you catch it off guard, however it nothing compaired to some of the M cars and 100% on the 992. Ive also got a 991 gts n/a and whilst off the pace in performance to the 992 it is so much more enjoyablee to drive. Question - did you notice the cylinder deactivation in the rs6? The only critique i have of t he car is the car going into 4 cyl mode between 1500 and 3300rpm, annoying when you want to listen to the v8.
Scott, the sound insulation in the car is really good so at those low revs while you're cruising you don't hear the V8. So when the cylinder deactivation kicks in you don't actually notice it (only notice it from the driver's display). It's not annoying at all, and as soon as you want the full 600 horses again they're there in a heartbeat. It's really impressive. The conditions for the CD are finicky, takes about 3 seconds to kick in at constant revs and then even a light touch of the throttle can bring the other 4 cylinders online. I found you only really saved decent fuel on a smooth run on the motorway, with 32mpg possible at 75mph average.
Amazing fuel economy and 900nm day to day torque of the sq7/sq8 are the main reason for those who switched from the rs6 to the sq7. Myself included. Never looked back. Drive daily and fuel up every 2 and half weeks sometimes even longer.
I have TDI ultra 2L, it is enough. One thing i don't like is that the wireless charger doesn't come in standard and not even a USB port Had to pay crap load of money just for simple things but Audi A6 is a good car.
My opinion here might be controvertial but having driven one of these in anger they don't do a good job of disguising their weight. Nice interior, good noise. They're a car I've always liked, just left me cold once I got around to driving one. I'd say I admired it for it's capability but didn't 'like' it.
There was in an inherited defect on these cars they put a filter in the oil feed to the turbos and this filter would get clogged up and blocked and would starve the turbos of oil whether it was done on purpose or whether they thought it was a good idea basically it cost you around £10,000 to replace both turbos all because of a very small filter on the pipe that feeds oil to the turbo it could be a slightly newer RS6 RS7 that be careful if you buy one of these cars you need to replace these filters or cleaning them out if possible apparently you have to strip down half the engine everything off the top I just thought I'd tell you as I watched the video a few months ago regarding an unhappy man and a happy bankster giving out a high interest bank loan it's a win win for some people and I lose lose if you're unfortunate to have this problem on your RS6 RS7 just a bit of information that people should know about especially if you are about to buy one good luck and may God bless your car because you're going to need it !!!!!!!! 🙏

Agree, lovely to borrow for the day but for running day to day. Of course there are Audi dealer prices, but there are significantly cheaper independent specialists, and online markets like Ebay. Genuine parts can be bought at a significant discount there. Lastly, in 10 years time there will be a lot of aftermarket support too.

I test drove the RS5 before settling on the RS7. I liked it, but the RS7 was significantly better, more engaging, and flexible. Although I didn't buy it, I certainly didn't write it off. Once these cars are tuned, their mandated comprises are quickly ironed out.
Extremely spacious. They'd be absolutely perfect for karting the kids to school in a speedy, safe fashion. Then the fun begins! They're no less spacious than the base A6. Go to the local dealer with any A6 and just have a look inside. That'll convince pretty quickly.
Now that merc and BMW have developed better 4 wheel drive systems with the ability to switch to 2 wheel drive I think the RS6 is going to get left behind
it only happens in dynamic mode or if you elect for it to happen in individual settings. Even in dynamic if you put the box back into drive it switches the exhaust overrun off.
But it’s exactly all that extra stuff that, for me, makes it too flash, too muscular and shouty. I’d much rather fly under the radar in a well subtle specced S than RS variant.
Not a flat white, Glacier white. Quite metallic. But the camera doesn't do it justice. That and the silver option are quite good for the incognito look.
I think 2.0 TDI with s line is even beter than ras model. Rs is too expensive to buy,too loud, uses to much fuel and expensive to maintain. 190 hp is more than enough here in Europe, for daily use .
I woundnt buy one, how ever if I won one I would sell it but that's because I don't need or desire a estate car. Yeah agree it always used to be the rs4 was best but now its all about the 6. In 2015 the performance wasn't available so I went with a remapp from 560 to 700hp, engine handles it easily. Still love it after 50k miles, couldnt imagine what to replace it with really. My only issue has been the steel brake disks, rubbish, they warp so I have upgraded. Glad you liked the car, at the same time not surprised
Another great review James
Always enjoy watching you drive along my route to work
The Sible Hedingham to Wethersfield road happens to be my favourite test run too. 😁
Nice to see my home village featured, so you've definitely got a new subscriber here James.
That’s a proper super touring car
Absolutely wicked car
Love them ❤️
Way way to expensive. Nice 👍 video thou James
and way to slow. from the factory all u can get is 270kmh as an option. a fucking civic type r goes 272 and an alpina diesel goes 300. fuck this 250 / 270 limit. such bullshit. what good is a 600hp car if i cant outrun a 200hp diesel on the autobahn. makes me angry.
It's not hard to remove it tbh, if you wanna go really fast, just do that
Dalsgaard
Agree
It’s actually a 200mph car.
Leviathan take it to the German courts then? What’s your problem? Do you live in Germany?
Probably one of my dream cars. Would get the face-lift for its slightly less running costs. £325 Road tax compared to £570 for the pre face-lift. Only problem like you said is the cost for these. £40k+ isn't cheap unless your earning a good amount and don't have most of the money going towards a mortgage
I remember the day i was Giving my old b16 CRX a good workout on one of my favourite roads and there was a silver transit in front of me driving at the absolute limits for about 8 miles and i just could not keep up without it getting far too silly.
never underestimate a transit.... lol fastest car on the British road.
We considered this RS6 against the same year Porsche Cayenne turbo. Very similar price used in today’s market. Thoughts?
I own a 2016 A45 and I agree pulling out of junctions is just lethal , I love and hate the car in equal amounts once on the move it’s a weapon
What an amazing car, and finally available in north America!
WLPT and these stricter emission is going to kill fun. It's also going to keep this model's prices relatively high. There should be a reduction in requirements for say one model if you can offset it with other models. I think it used to be like this, but now it's just a big FU for those wanting some fun in new cars.
Already is killing fun. I not sure I'll buy a new car again. Commoditised crap.
Phil H you drive a TVR.. your car is batshit crazy! you can’t compare other cars to it.
Phil you are weird
Amazing cars, it just such a shame they are so bloody expensive here in The Netherlands. If i was living back in the Uk i would have one for sure.
Brilliant video from start to finish
Thankyou. I really enjoyed making this one.
JayEmm on Cars your welcome
Try an E63s amg latest generation.
I love mine.
I had the v10 rs6 and it just felt heavy with a pretty characterless engine note.
Loved my 6.2 naturally aspirated amgs, but this new 4 litre turbo isn't far behind in both sound and character.
Dad has a new E63S too and it's a awesome car. Effortless performance, very easy to go fast.
I have one with ceramic brakes and just about every other listed extra. Its quite amazing but I've no idea what I'll do on my next car!
Great video, really enjoyed it. Sadly,in a way,it seems slightly academic because I doubt I’ll ever own this car. Owning an S4 took enough of a toll on me! However, one can wish and I certainly do- the RS6 is quite simply my absolute dream car. Thanks again.
I'm more of an Alpina B5 touring fan myself.
These Cars love to snap cv joints on !!
Refuse to believe it can keep up with a silver van. Waiting for the McLaren F1 review for that sort of performance.
Would be great to see you review a C7/7.5 S6 Avant at some point!
Great quality as always James
Saw this leave following filming as I arrived with my car, what a lovely spec and a monstrous noise. My friend has a slightly older spec one and they’re a proper bit of kit, although a bit long in the tooth now. I’m really excited to see all the reviews of the new RS6 upon launch, try to twist audis arm into letting you have a go in one!!
can u review the e63s estate
Great review as usual Jay. How did that 600+ bhp compare to the 600+bhp in your supercharged M3 track car thingamy? I appreciate they're compleeeeetely different cars with different power delivery.
The RS6 has an easier time putting it down, and had a lot more torque a lot lower down
@@JayEmmOnCars, indeed, Quattros rock, and the V-engine twin turbos pull from NO revs.
@@JayEmmOnCars I have an RS7 and without the Quattro the car would never have been made. Instant smoke machine. Great video, thank you.
Good review, if budget is the constraint you might want to consider an RS7. Granted its not an estate but it is the same platform / engine / drivetrain, lighter (if that's a consideration) less were registered in the UK but crucially they are some 10-15% less than an RS6 with better standard equipment levels.
They dont look so good as an rs6 and depreciate more
I know this is an old vid but as people do seem to be interested in these I thought I'd throw in the proverbial two bob..
Hahah vettel in the silver van hahhaha hilarious
THIS IS MY FAV CAR!!!
My son has this car in Blue, quite rare model in USA.
The RS6 is not legal in the US he might have the S6 but not the RS6
Love mine! They're even better with 800hp!!!
I didnt really drive it enough or in the right conditions to get cylinder deactivation to happen
I would love the one with the twin turbo V10 engine
Amazing fuel economy and 900nm day to day torque of the sq7/sq8 are the main reason for those who switched from the rs6 to the sq7. Myself included. Never looked back. Drive daily and fuel up every 2 and half weeks sometimes even longer.
Analogue dials is where it's at. All digital is fun all for 10 min. IMHO
I have TDI ultra 2L, it is enough. One thing i don't like is that the wireless charger doesn't come in standard and not even a USB port
Had to pay crap load of money just for simple things but Audi A6 is a good car.
My opinion here might be controvertial but having driven one of these in anger they don't do a good job of disguising their weight. Nice interior, good noise. They're a car I've always liked, just left me cold once I got around to driving one. I'd say I admired it for it's capability but didn't 'like' it.
Like every RS6 ever.......
Do a video on Saab 93 and whether you should buy one
I have done a video on a 93 before
I’d be interested to hear your thoughts comparing this to the Skoda Superb 280 4motion (estate) which is somewhat more affordable 😉
The Audi is far better. Nicer interior, nicer drive, epic engine, lots of space and not even that much worse on fuel on a run. 29 mpg vs 32
JayEmm on Cars but worth the £x0,000s as a daily driver on UK roads❓❓
@@mikeshacklock6208 For me, yes. The Skoda just isnt worth it. I prefer the KIA Optima, although the engine is not as good
Many thanks 👍

Hi Jay. Feel free to review my brand new RS4. It's been quite a change from a R8 V10 plus. Oh, and I'm in New Zealand...
If I could afford one of these in 10 years I still wouldn't buy one, I can only imagine the endless money pits they will be when stuff goes wrong
Agree, lovely to borrow for the day but for running day to day. I had a C43 AMG for a while and even that, which was on a lower level of cost, meant big bills. £600 for the air con lcd display giving up the ghost for instance. I just ignored it and turned the overhead light on if I needed to use it :) I couldn't do that when the gearbox went sadly. £3300 for a new one and that was 10 years back.... the crankshaft positon sensor went wrong too.. £700 .... for a sensor !
@Kris Nicholson I'll take a 1.6 focus every time 🤪 I love cars but practicality wins every time
@Kris Nicholson best of both worlds 👍
I hope you change your mind. I was concerned about this too but bought a C7 RS7.
I did much research first and found out they're extremely reliable.
Of course there are Audi dealer prices, but there are significantly cheaper independent specialists, and online markets like Ebay. Genuine parts can be bought at a significant discount there.
Lastly, in 10 years time there will be a lot of aftermarket support too.
@Kris Nicholson I hear you. There's already some good aftermarket for the C7. Not Golf level but hey, we have to start somewhere.
You want one...!.Haha, I have one from new in white same year as that but slightly better spec.
Nice car but if u stage 2 it the drive shaft likes to shit itself
Then you just fit uprated ones lol

Great car but in white it doesn’t look much different to an S-line diesel
The guy who specced it wanted it stealthy
Kris Nicholson - As I stated, a white RS6 looks much more like a S-line / diesel model than the other colours. This takes nothing away from the Car’s capabilities.
I’m guessing that the owner of the car is the guy sitting next to you so does that stop you from being totally honest? I mean if the owner has been kind enough to allow you to borrow his car for you to have content for a video does that make you feel obliged not to voice your opinions fully?
Not the owner but honestly owners are usually way more brutal about their cars than I am because they live with them so get to know their faults
Everyone that test drives the new RS4 writes it off. If you live with one you mind will be changed...
I test drove the RS5 before settling on the RS7. I liked it, but the RS7 was significantly better, more engaging, and flexible. Although I didn't buy it, I certainly didn't write it off.
Once these cars are tuned, their mandated comprises are quickly ironed out.
How do I convince the wife that I should be buying one for her benefit? Can you tell us how spacious the back is with 2 car seats?
Extremely spacious. They'd be absolutely perfect for karting the kids to school in a speedy, safe fashion. Then the fun begins! They're no less spacious than the base A6. Go to the local dealer with any A6 and just have a look inside. That'll convince pretty quickly.
That, is an excellent, very excellent, noise.

Now that merc and BMW have developed better 4 wheel drive systems with the ability to switch to 2 wheel drive I think the RS6 is going to get left behind
Totally ruined by the embarrassing fake popping and banging. Please Audi, get rid of this chav trend.
it only happens in dynamic mode or if you elect for it to happen in individual settings. Even in dynamic if you put the box back into drive it switches the exhaust overrun off.
No more Audi’s, modern Beemers or Volvos please 😩😩😩
You're gonna *love* December. Seriously.
Ha ha Im intrigued now 😂😂
But the S6 is the cooler car.
But it’s exactly all that extra stuff that, for me, makes it too flash, too muscular and shouty. I’d much rather fly under the radar in a well subtle specced S than RS variant.
RS6 in white that looks awful, I used to drive C6 in Negaro Blue and it looked epic. BUT FLAT WHITE oh dear.
I'd rather have an RS2, just more pure and has enough power, maybe "sneeze on it" a bit to get it up to 400 hp🤔🕶
I woundnt buy one, how ever if I won one I would sell it but that's because I don't need or desire a estate car. And I only have so many organs I could scarifice and sell on the Chinese Black market to fix any issues. If I were in need of a premium estate and didn't need to sell my organs or had some one else's as running cost I would have merc c63 Estate.
estates are the most practical car there is, infact i know people who wont even buy a work van because there estate does it all.

I think there a Group 48 out of 50 insurance. Have to use premium fuel which I aways have done. I average around 22mpg on a good day. A really good hoon will get you in the low teens. But you can achieve that in a focus/fiesta st So not for everybody. but not many NA 2 seater sports car with thumping v6 around. sports cars or big engine cars will never be cheap to run maintain.
