(c)1990 National Football League; CBS Sports-ViacomCBS; KWCH-Gray Television
This features the halftime show for Super Bowl XXIV (at this point, the San Francisco 49ers had taken a commanding 27-3 lead over the Denver Broncos; en route to their 55-10 trouncing to secure the 49ers' winning back-to-back Super Bowls)
We start with the Super Bowl Today halftime report (which seems to be having as good a night as the Broncos considering the dragging audio of the theme sounded like some sour notes were being played, leading Brent Musburger to quip that the "music slowed down some time ago on the Denver Broncos"); where joining Brent in his (last for CBS) Super Bowl coverage were Terry Bradshaw (who would soon move over to the NFL Today after the great CBS pregame shuffle of 1990) and guest commentator and Chicago Bears head coach Mike Ditka (whose Bears had lost their last 6 games to miss the playoffs for the first time since 1983; squandering a 4-0 start in the process) to discuss the 49ers' postseason dominance so far (Ditka, whose Bears had played in the most recent previous Super Bowl held at the Superdome, sounds like he picked the Broncos to win), analyzing the first half (Bradshaw felt his Steeler teams of the 1970s might have defeated the 49ers).
Next is the halftime show itself; which served as both a celebration of host city New Orleans (featuring Bayou State natives such as clarinet player Pete Fountain (a regular in the early years of the Lawrence Welk Show); fiddler Doug Kershaw and singer Irma Thomas and also a commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the creation of Charles Schulz's "Peanuts" comic strip, complete with performers in costume as Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Woodstock and Snoopy, marching bands from Southern University, Nicholls State and University of Louisiana-Lafayette and a large riverboat for the finale that was large enough that one of the goalposts had to be removed (near the end of the video during Pat Summerall and John Madden's comments, we see video of the goalpost being placed back up)
Brent and friends return to discuss highlights and discuss what to expect for the 2nd half from both teams before turning to Irv Cross (Broncos locker room) and Will McDonough (49ers locker room) for reports on the teams as they approached the second half before Pat and John give their thoughts as the intermission nears its end, with league groundskeeper George Toma giving the "all clear" once everything is in place.

The peanuts character costumes look like something out of a nightmare that occurred in the book Where the Wild Things Are.

17:10 the best vocal performance in Superbowl halftime history. Irma is 83 years old, still singing, and sounds as good as ever. It would be a crime if they don't include her in the halftime show for Superbowl 59 when it's in New Orleans in 2025.

Some folks tuned out at halftime because the Broncos got shellacked by the mighty Niners 55-10! I don't blame them, Super Bowl 24 was a bloodbath (again, 55-10!), Joe Montana and friends left John Elway and the Broncos in the dust!

The halftime show of 1990 was solid proof that, more often than not, it’s better to keep things simple. This show was anything but that - featuring two completely unrelated themes. One was a homage to New Orleans since the Super Bowl was taking place there, and the other was a tribute to the 40th anniversary of the Peanuts comic strip.
The music was still very good. But the whole bit of snoopy on a steamboat dancing to ‘Where the Saints Go Marching In’, and then ‘Happy Birthday, Charlie Brown', was just too incoherent to enjoy.

If they didn’t have the Charlie Brown stuff shoved in, I feel like it would have actually been amazing
