Question: it opens the opposite direction of the air/wind, could that cause problems with the opening mechanism ? Like the airflow on the straights could be too strong to open ?

I love those kind of raw, unfiltered sounds in this vid. Along with the wide FoV, it gives you a much better impression of the acceleration and power of these cars, especially the wind getting louder and the tyre noise on these wets. Way better than the "exhaust microphones" they use on the broadcast.

@@QwoaX I have a feeling that the FIA have changed the requirement for onboard cameras. Unless this is a GoPro (which I doubt) the default view from above the driver is much wider than previous onboard cameras and, like you say, gives a MUCH better impression of speed. I noticed the same from the McLaren onboard shots with Lando. The extra fov either side of the car should be good for showing other cars during battles too.
@@benwallace2539 Let's hope so. Also, now that you said that, I just noticed that camera position is very similar to the camera settings that I would run in F1 games. You see a lot on the sides and very well how you hit the kerbs, how close the given front tyre and front wing is to other cars.
"These wets" there not wets though there a "demo" spec tyre pirelli give the teams for exhibition events and tests like this
They're a completely different compound to any other tyre available in a normal race weekend so they work on a wet track and a dry track

I love how, even with wet tires, F1 is still faster than almost any other motorsport race car in dry conditions.

Looks very pretty! This year is going to be really interesting. Seeing how each unique "solution" to the new design specs compares to the others. It's got a feeling of going back to the 60-70s - in a good way! - with all the new ideas and varieties of design. Can't wait to see the first race!

0:55 I love this onboard shot, I hope the real cameras for TV broadcast get this exact same view. You see more, and the cars look faster on the TV footage.
There was a GoPro camera installed at top for that shot as I saw some other clicks. Ya it will be great to have this shot. It's unique and it's the most played camera angle on many games .
I think I saw Martin Brundle talk about this once. He said a camera mounted on top like that was terrible for aerodynamics so it wasn’t a realistic option.
@@iMaajid Yeah most likely, the teams will be using the normal mountings you usually see on a race weekend throughout the season. They add weight and upset the aerodynamic flow over the car so really the extras are just used for one offs just like this. Nice to see though.

Really looking forward to this season, I think it’s going to be very exciting for the fans and there will likely be some surprises in terms of performance by certain teams. I really like the looks of the new cars as well……really cleaned up compared to the outgoing designs. Not that the old cars were ugly but there’s just something appealing about the new cars…..especially the front and rear wing shape.
The W13 looks absolutely fantastic……especially with the silver paint scheme. Beautiful job by a superb team of people.

I just love how whereas the other teams have been relatively shy about showing footage of their new cars (or straight up not showing the car at all), Mercedes is here with its usual transparency and an onboard video already
The car is not running even close to race-pace though, so it only reveals that it can drive. And it's still well possible that behind the scenes, the car is already getting changed between the making of this footage, and the first actual race. I would hesitate to mention "transparancy" and "F1" in the same sentence, until the cat's really out of the bag. ;-)

I do recognise, though, that even a full onboard with a limited angle would give away too much about the handling characteristics, which other teams could correlate with the aero package

The released pics are not the car. This is the car in videos. So far its def late in development car but that means nothing. Upgrades will come 1st race to all teams.

Unfortunately, the pov is zoomed so much that you can no longer take the speed and the environment well. Back when not everything was so extremely commercial, the cameras for the viewers were better. But the close cameras are so important for security. No irony : )

With limited wind tunnel time I think teams can relax a bit with keeping things under wrap, because I imagine everyone will have a development plan that is already underway which will require most of their allocated wind tunnel time. So teams at the top like red bull & mercedes will probably find it tough to find wind tunnel time to throw at ideas seen on other teams unless its some magic silver bullet ie double diffuser from 2009, etc.
I am sceptical that it will work out that way. Teams like Mercedes, McLaren and Ferrari aren't just F1 teams, they run in other disciplines and manufacture road cars. How can the FIA police their usage of wind tunnels in their other factories?
Of course, no written document of any potential findings could be sent, but nothing stops them communicating verbally were they to test an aero concept in their road car division. The FIA's reach is good, but not good enough to be able to demand cooperation/transparency from the automotive companies globally, especially if the racing team and the manufacturer are separate/distinct.
Just look at 'project ONE' that Merc/AMG were working on that had the 'F1 engine' in it; it has plenty of aero to test. In theory, Ferrari for example, could choose to develop a concept car with similar aero to the 2022 F1 car and I reckon it would be pretty difficult for the FIA tell them that they couldn't use their own wind tunnels to test a car for commercial sale or even just as a nifty idea for the next car show.
Certainly not disagreeing with your assesment, I just have my doubts about the FIA's ability to effectively control it and If they fail to do so, the smaller teams might be worse off than they were before, even with the extra time given to them.

You know, this is like the movies, the story would be amazing if Lewis comes back with a ferocious will to win and buries the opposition this year. The man is always exciting to watch when he’s on it.
Lewis Hamilton was robbed last season, but the LAST thing that I want to see this year is another Mercedes walkover. What I really want to see is LOTS of drivers competing for wins, not just two.

Mercedes certainly feels confident with their new car as they should be. Lewis looked like he had his hands full with the handling but I am sure they will start dialing in the car before they head to Barcelona for testing. This should be one of the most exciting seasons in F1 yet. Best of luck to George Russell with his new teammate and new team.
