20:16-21:34 that sums up one of my frustrations from design school! In the words of Saul Bass, I just want to make beautiful things, even if nobody cares. I came from an art program in high school and felt the dichotomy throughout my time at uni. I even made a project about art vs design in my final year.
I think that separation is part of why I switched to illustration. I can make pretty things now, and by hand, too!

Thank you for this. I felt the same way in art school. Everyone was so caught up in "good ideas" and "it's all about the client" while nobody was taught how to have a style (which is another way of saying, you made original work that people paid attention to). You can't be a good designer without a deep inner compass that tells you what feels good (to you) or not. Clients ultimate come to us because they trust our artistic vision AND hands-on skills, not just our ideas.

I literally thought this said “Paul Rudd” 😂 I was so confused about his unknown graphic design contributions. 🤦‍♀️ But seriously, thank you for an informative video about Mr. Rand

Ha! Paul Rudd is great. Maybe I'll do a podcast on him for no reason! Thanks for listening.
