    Just a note about the measurements - the labeling on this system seems to have carried over for a previous export. The suede pad and resonance frequency graphs are NOT with EQ as indicated by the labeling. The graph after that WITH EQ has EQ applied.

    I couldn't agree more about Meze's ergonomics. I got to test the Elite and the LCD-5 in the same day, and the Meze made the Audeze feel like it was designed by the Spanish inquisition.

      @@RESURRECT2 Comfort wise, the Meze is better by far. He meant that the Audeze is like a 'torture device' by comparison.
      While I agree that the Meze is quite a bit more comfortable, the LCD-5 is surprisingly good for long periods of wearing as the pads heat up and soften to mold to the shape of your head as the feeling of initial clamp disappears. I think he as a bit of cognitive bias since the LCD-5, when first put on at a trade show, let's say, does not have the best first impression in terms of comfort.

    I have tested this at a local shop. Everything about these headphones were very impressive. If anyone is looking to buy something in this price range I would highly recommend the E2. The work and engineering that went into this is easily worth the 3000 bucks.

      @@venny1232 I'm vegan too, so that aspect is a big consideration for me when buying headphones. It can be a bit of a minefield especially as the exact materials aren't always specified.
      Thankfully some manufactures do clearly list/offer vegan options, which is one of the big reasons I have just purchased a Diana MR from Abyss.
      From the reviews I have read it suits the sound profile that I am looking for and the vegan model has synthetic suede pads with a cactus leather headband.
      It competes directly with the Emyprean II at $3000 and also has a 10 year warranty.

    Hey Andrew, what is your top choice for up to USD$2k in a headphone that I don’t have to EQ, that has good bass, midrange, and high frequency performance with solid imaging and decent soundstaging? I am a fan of my beloved HD600’s, but for my end game headphone I want better bass performance and stronger imaging and sound staging capabilities. I don’t have any issues with the highs, and the midrange is wonderful on my HD600’s. I’m considering the HFM Ananda or Arya stealth V3, but as with all HFM headphones, the midrange is a bit recessed, with more attention given to the quality of the lows and highs. Is the latest LCD-X in the game? The HD800S is in need of a revamp, perhaps a S2 iteration, so I wouldn’t buy the 800S as it is now. I’m not a huge fan of the Focal sound either as the highs on the clear just don’t cut it. Cheers!

  • @richardwas2260
    @richardwas2260 ปีที่แล้ว

    Andrew, like you I'm sensitive to treble peaks - the operative word being "peak", since trebly headphones don't bother me when they're reasonably balanced across that frequency spectrum. But I'd love to know why 6K peaks bother you? My Beyer Amiron Home has a sharp peak between 6K and 10K that is deceptive because warmth in the lower spectrum seems to complement this. However, any high-pitched instruments (or vocals) sound thin, brittle, sharp as soon as they ascend to the 6K-10K region; they basically change in character. I notice this with piano in particular, as well as massed strings in orchestral music. (I still like the Amiron and listen to it regularly, but my Hifiman Ananda (original) is far better for acoustic music.

    The low mid hump and the 2K suckout with the hybrid pads is pretty much what I was expecting to be honest. It's very even for a planar, fewer crazy squigglies.
    The suede pads measurement looks way smoother as expected, less low mids buildup and the suckout is less severe. I can imagine it's better for EQing.
    I will say it looks like it won't be super challenging to EQ.

    @haelscheirs_haven ปีที่แล้ว

    I will attest that despite the Meze Elite's still rather diminished ear gain region, with the spaciousness and bass extension of the hybrid pads, the excellent distortion performance has measurably allowed it to handle substantial attenuation of the (ultralow distortion) bass bloat and a substantial EQed restoration of the ear gain region with still yet exquisitely low distortion dominated by second-order harmonics likely well below audibility (more details in page 344 post #5,152 of the Head-Fi Meze Elite thread). Otherwise, it is still nice to see Meze finally giving us more ear gain by default. What would be interesting is to see the frequency response after swapping the Elite Hybrid pads into the Empyrean 2.

    I like headphones sometimes, BUT speakers are so much more genuine how they present sound. Your ear/brain system is never fooled by headphones. Real sounds, really coming from in front of you, good speakers can mimic perfectly; headphones can't. Good speakers sound many times bigger too, with such depth and so much air between instruments. Are headphone people mistly people who don't have speaker based systems? I know headphones have some advantages, like more detail, (a little more anyway), the ability to sidestep room colrations and acoustic issues, and potentially a bit cleaner sound, but those things still don't add up to near as much realism as great speakers can. I guess I don't understand. I just cannot picture anyone preferring headphones.

If you want 3k for the SMALLEST OF INCREASES, it is THAT company's responsibility to PROVE to me it is with that. If you do order them, you SHOULD be looking for excuses to send them back. I want to try them, but THEY have the burden of proof here, and my experience is the higher the price the MORE I am disappointed. I'm sure these are no exception. A ton of EQ adjustments were made - but the tonality is acceptable?

    The drop X4 has a better frequency response. It's good enough for most listening. It takes to EQ very well. For under $100 on sale the X4 is all you really need.

      You said it perfectly, it’s good enough for you & this X4 is all you really need.
      But other people have different preferences, budgets, setups, etc

      Are you fucking kidding me? People buying empyrean arent gonna buy shitty hifiman budget headphones.
      By the way, the drop x4 are congested and grainy af. sound is awful.

      All you need is some sheet music and an instrument.

      I found the X4 to sound really messy and EQ didn't do much to help it. The deeper pads just suck fidelity out imo. They add some fun and space, but definitely not my kind of compromise. 400se I think is noticeably better, Sundara to that, XS to that. I'd rather take an HD280 Pro with EQ over an X4.

      I'd go slightly higher. $500- $600. Much more after that and your buying into hifi waffle

      be aware that those reviewers are with afiliate links. headphone companies send them various phones , they measured them, listen to them a few days,send them back. @@brendangood1052
