+JesperPr2 well, not this one, more like the recent one. The music works in music video compilations but not in a trailer that aims towards all demo, the marketing people really screwed the character with the trailer.
Frankly, "Fight Song" is exactly the perfect music for Supergirl, because the meaning and lyrics of that song speaks exactly to who Supergirl is and what this show is trying to portray - go actually and listen to the song, it's full of meaning - just because it's not some epic orchestral famous score or some super dreary music doesn't mean it's wrong - the songs fit the character and it fits that world
***** Agreed. I'm not in love with some of the earlier cuts, but I knew immediately who they were for. And I had never heard "Fight Song" before, but now I'm kinda obsessed with it.
Yes, Cat Grant was in Lois and Clark as the gossip columnist at the Daily Planet. I love how they addressed the 'supergirl' thing. I love the action. I love the comedy. The ONLY problem at all with the trailer is the length, but I still loved it. It's a First Look, not just a trailer. They have a 2 1/2 min trailer as well. Plus it's honestly meant more to garner interest in the show - it's a little different than 'gaining hype' ... one thing is for the broader audience, the other's for the core audience :) Even so, the character interplay looks like it'll be amazingly good, and they are going to have Kara be the protagonist, not just talking about Superman every other second (which would be hugely dismissive of the main character in this TV show) :) I liked your commentary btw :)
There are a few rumors about Superman. One is that he has been cast, but I can't find it anywhere. The other came out when Supergirl was still kind of a rumor as well, that Superman would have gone into space. For what, I don't know, but that's just what I remember.
It looks pretty good. Now that I've watched the trailer for the 2nd time, I'm actually not really too crazy about that "Devil Wears Prada" sequence with Kara and her boss in the beginning. Besides that, I'm getting the vibe of show is gonna be like a female version of Clark Kent and Barry Allen all wrapped in one. The most thing that I'm looking forward to this show is Melissa Benoit's portrayal of Supergirl because from what I've seen so far, I'm in LOVE with her lol And are you guys ever gonna put up the review for Daredevil Season 1? You guys are like the only people who haven't put it up yet haha
Apparently they're discussing possible cross-overs with Arrow and the Flash as Supergirl has the same screenwriter as Arrow & Flash and they're owned by same company (WB owns CBS&CW). Would be great to see it happen!
NoName1462 The CBS network is owned by CBS Corporation. Which is essentially a Viacom company. The CW is a joint venture owned by CBS Corporation and WB (50/50 stake each).
NoName1462 Yeah but its probably not going to happen in at least the first half of season 1 as they wanted to keep supergirl as their own things for a little awhile but did say it was possible (it better happen....Legends of Tomorrow kind of already feels out of place without Supergirl)
great reaction video, as I was watching the trailer for Supergirl, I got that Flash sense of humor to it which I don't have a problem with it. What I have a problem with is the fact that its showing on the same night as Gotham and Monday nights is very crowded. I can understand not wanting it to show on Friday nights, but this could have been a summer show.
Would have been more interested if the suit wasn't introduced so quickly (from what it look likes). I would like to see more of Kara Zor-El exploring her powers and wait a while before introducing Supergirl. That just me though.
I agree with you Hector, I got that kind of sarcastic humor vibe. Though living up to Buffy will be hard... I did LOVE when that truck smashed into her, epic!
Did you guys end up watching this? I've watched the first 8 episodes and this trailer definitely made it way more cheesy than it is (It still has some though...), but the action and special effects are excellent!
I'm going to avoid spoilers here regarding the pilot. THE GOOD: The special effects were good quality. From a story telling perspective, the sequencing shown was good. Many parts stirred the emotions. The acting was good. Some will disagree, but I think any awkwardness in the acting was due to poorly written dialog in some places. THE BAD: Most of the dialog was good but some of it sounded really forced like there was something the writers wanted the viewer to know no matter how awkward it sounds when someone says it or like they were trying to squeeze too much dialog into too small a time slot. It was spotty. There would be five minutes of good dialog and then some weird crap that nobody would say in real life or even in a superhero universe. I realize this is about Supergirl, not Superman, but they seemed to go out of their way to avoid saying Clark or Clark Kent or Superman except maybe once or twice at the beginning. There may be legal reasons, but it sounds really weird. Maybe they could put something in there where someone starts to say "Superman" or "Clark Kent" and Supergirl shushes them in case someone might be listening, telling them to just call him "her cousin". The pilot seemed rushed in places, like they were doing a montage to squeeze three episodes worth of story into one story. This should have been a two hour pilot. I realize they are catering to their audience, but they jammed feminist comments into places where it didn't seem to flow naturally. The part you see in the trailer about calling her Supergirl instead of Superwoman needed to be there as I've always wondered that myself. That was okay, but there were a couple of other places where it was really forced and unnatural. One of Supergirl's basic abilities didn't get shown. I won't spoil it by saying which of them wasn't shown, but if they had shown it they would have had to change the entire plot. Maybe they'll bring it in later. Maybe she hasn't developed it yet.
Im totally on your side on this. It all just seems weird. You Guys are awesome! keep up the good work and please let Hector know that I asked him a question on Facebook, its probably in the "other" folder :D
Ethan Reuben look at the second trailer its way better www.blastr.com/2015-5-14/cbs-unleashes-new-more-power-packed-supergirl-trailer-and-video-featurette
Man your reactions are exactly the same as mine haha. It felt "Smallville-ish" to me. I loved how Supergirl was portrayed in Worlds' Finest and my reaction might be biased to that version of Kara. It has that close to remote Buffy feel but it is far from being the "next" Buffy as Hector wanted it to be. And btw guys, this airs at the same time slot as Gotham's second season.
looks pretty cool. i still kinda wish they went more in the new 52 direction of the character but i could see why they didn't because too many people would draw comparisons between this and the smallville version. but yeah. this looks fun
I'm with Hector in rooting for it to be the new Buffy, and I knew immediately what he meant when he said he got that vibe from it. You're not imagining things, Hector! :-) I can't even tell you how excited I am about this. Well, I sort of can, and did for about eight minutes over on my channel. Now here's hoping we're right! **fingers crossed**
I feel like comparing this to the Black Widow parody is doing a disservice to both characters, firstly, Black Widow is a very different kind of person from Kara Zor El, the reason the Black Widow parody worked was because it was things that is not indicative of who Black Widow has been presented to be, that's not the kind of person she is - but Kara being feminine or bubbly or even looking for love works for her because that's her personality and fits into her growth as a young woman out in the world rather than someone who was trained since childhood to be emotionless and an assassin - I feel people are not taking different personalities into account with how these characters are being presented. And also to note, Superman is the one who finds Kara and brings her to her adopted family, you see that in the flashes at the beginning - and her earth parents are played by the original Supergirl and the Superman from Lois and Clark TV show And for the rom com feelings and music choices, I feel like people are too into the whole "strong woman" persona that they are in many ways sacrificing femininity in order to look cool or dark or gritty - there should be nothing wrong with something that is bubbly and fun and charming and not just down in the dumps and brooding. It may not be very in your face obvious, but already from this first look, Kara should be a role model figure for young girls, because she is girly yes but she is also strong, she is a young woman who embraces who she is and is proud of herself, and that is something I feel is so important. So many shows are into the dark gritty brooding loner superhero but Kara here looks like she has a healthy and happy life and for once I think that is needed, a young woman who loves who she is and doesn't shy away from rough choices and isn't having to sacrifice being feminine in order to be considered "strong" - that is a message that young girls whom this is trying to target really should get to see
none of that music in the trailer was in the pilot. It did have heroic sweeping music. There was quite a bit of action and the fx were REALLY good. Especially her heat vision. We get to see that in the pilot. All the cheese was pretty much shown in the trailer. I've watched the pilot 4 times now it's that good. We will have plenty of powerful baddies to contend with on the show as well. I do agree with you guys that Jimmy should not have been the one to give her the baby blanket. That should have been Supes himself. Her heroic theme song is fantastic. Almost movie quality. The characters are easy to fall in love with. Especially Kara. Her sister is really likeable as well. I have no doubts this show will soar.
It's a trailer okay the music is fine, also if you pause the trailer you can see the flashes in the beginning of superman finding Kara and helping her find an adoptive family ps Helen slater(super girl) and dean cain(superman) play her parents on earth
Everybody is saying the trailer is too long and that is showing too much. I thought the same thing when I saw The Flash trailer last year but I was completely wrong and the show now is a huge success. Give this show a chance.
Alexandria is not going to be the villain. Alexandria is her adoptive sister (Alexandria Danvers). They're not going to focus on having Superman in it because it's Supergirl, not Superman and Cousin. And the music is specifically for the trailer.
I'm really excited that little girls are going to be able to tune in each week and see a female lead kicking ass and taking names, whilst retaining all the heart of a Superman story. Also, villains of the week are aliens which'll make a nice change from the slew of criminals in every other show at the moment. p.s Agustin Rios - I had exactly the same reaction to those eyebrows :P
Some of people from arrow / flash are part of it. Their the ones that design the outfit and also working on this project. I would give them a chance. I'm looking in the long run. That in future season it will have better tone. Just like flash pick up and arrow pick up after further seasons.
Season 2 was renewed today and it's moving to TheCW. So can cross over with The Flash or Arrow. And I actually like the show more then I thought I would. Lol
It doesn't have to be Buffy. This is a fun show. BTW, Mondays on CBS was Big Bang Theory and 2 Broke Girls. Hardly shows that appeal to the senior crowd!
I have seen the pilot since it leaked online and i have to say it is better then i expected. The score is different and it complements it well and it is very women empowerment which is awesome.
I agree I feel the same thing I hope they mentioned someone about Superman or say some things about Clark Kent but not every 10-15 minutes there's something about on the table I hope it's just her all about her and they fix the more power part of woman
I liked it but it's a female driven superhero show, which is ok but I think they were a little heavy handed on the whole "Girl Power" thing, apposed to doing a well rounded show. The Effect were good, Acting also good, good cast too, the whole "Girl Power" thing was too much, If this what other female driven Superhero shows would be like I can see why we haven't had more. It's like CBS think Men wouldn't be interested in a Supergirl show so they panicked and pandered to the feminists , but there dead wrong regardless of gender, I would have loved to add a new superhero show to my weekly schedule. That being said, I will be watching. Buffy was never "Girl Power" heavy it was never needed cause it was well written.
There is no Buffy vibe at all. You're probably the only one that felt a notion of a Buffy vibe. No way. The music I agree. CW all the way. It doesn't pilot the heroism that is Supergirl. I will remain optimistic as well. Give it a chance.
Trailers are done by the marketing team....so it really depends on what they are shooting for. Also, CBS owns CW.....and they already said that this is loosely connected to the flash and arrow universe and its the same production team that brought you those two shows.....so I believe that this shows is holding a bit back.
I think SuperGirl will be a very good show, the second trailer was so much better. This trailer was "bad", too long, bad music. I am sure editors from CBS for this trailer are not ine the "Super hero stuff" and did a CBS tv show's like trailer.
I have mixed feelings about this, I'll give the first episode a try. You guys should totally watch/react to DC Legends of Tomorrow. What an awesome trailer.
People keep bringing up the Black Widow thing yet fail to somehow miss the point - the Black Widow thing was a parody simply because it was depicting a Black Widow story that is the antithesis of the character we have been presented on screen. It's a parody specifically because it doesn't fit. But just because a style doesn't fit Black Widow doesn't mean it's somehow wrong for another character whose story and world fits more into the light hearted chick flick style. And frankly, what is wrong with chick flicks anyways? There's not just one type of a woman, not all female superhero movie must now be super serious somehow in order to gain credibility. If Kara is light hearted and goofy what's wrong with that? There's not some rule that female superheroes must be one way, there's no reason why Kara can't be a happy person and have that upbeat personality. What is so wrong with a show and a trailer that has a happy young woman embracing her powers and not being all melodramatic, it worked for Flash, so why not Supergirl
Fine video guys. As always. I have to agree with you. Some "girly" segments were a bit on the nose. But hey, what do we men know. ;) Really like Melissa as Supergirl and the action looks great. I think that we can expect a good Supergirl show. Imagine that 10 years ago. Great times.
It's really weird how they never refer to Superman by name, they only say ," My cousin, your cousin". Maybe I'm just reading into it too much, but it just seems odd to me.
Steve Hamedl I know that song is not in the pilot. Just in the trailer. The pilot itself was better than what the trailer made it look like. I wouldn't say it was a very good pilot, though.
had the same impression... Buffy 2.0. I like the tone, and i'm very hopeful that it'll go the same way as Buffy, where you got the "lighter" side, being your everyday stuff, and then the darker stuff, being her superhero stuff. I have high hopes, but i won't hold her up against Buffy as that would simply doom this show to failure in my eyes... I just hope its similar :) sincerely: Hardcore Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan
So, I watched this video shortly after the trailer was released and really disagreed with the opinion that the music wasn't heroic or powerful. I really thought that "Fight Song" was the perfect song for this trailer and actually couldn't understand how this thought wasn't shared. Since then, girls/women across the globe have embraced this song as a personal anthem, stating that they have the strength to persevere. Do you suppose that this may just be a difference of the sexes? I'm actually really curious on your thoughts.
Superhero News news guys it's meant for girls. I understand what your coming from the music but like it's like saying girls do the same thing that men can do. Ik u Don't like music that's what some girls jam to. Sometime they do but like said girl power.
best part of this trailer, when she tried to fly in that dark alley for the first time in a while. Other than that, it became too perky which was a turn off for many and now it has (some) negative views but hopefully the new trailer did it better justice.
Jesus, this trailer is showing a little bit too much! I probably need to ask K for a neuralyzer before I start binge-watchin' this shit. May also need to borrow it a couple o' more times for those who've watched the latest Terminator Genisys trailer. :p
theprototypeguy At 14:40 I clarified that the "trailer" is more of a first-look from the CBS Upfronts that were held in NY earlier this week. A 2-minute version did get leaked online (which I thought was much better), but CBS had it removed.
theprototypeguy Then again, everyone was complaining about The Flash trailer, saying that it was too long and that it ruined his origin, but now it's everyone's favorite DC show.
Seen the episode, and all of the concerns raised in the trailer are really not present, or at least far less underlined. Its a lot better then the trailer. And its a pilot. I'm sure they'll refine it more before it reaches season one run... Well...fingers crossed
Is it just me or does Kara's personality come across as the female version of the Flash? Everytime she opened her mouth I could see Barry Allen speaking.
Unless one of her superpowers is perfectly coiffed hair I can't suspend disbelief enough to accept anything other than a braid down her back as a serious hairstyle for this character. Come on, she's flying!
The first episode was actually really good! Lives up the hype on the trailer.
+JesperPr2 well, not this one, more like the recent one. The music works in music video compilations but not in a trailer that aims towards all demo, the marketing people really screwed the character with the trailer.
Frankly, "Fight Song" is exactly the perfect music for Supergirl, because the meaning and lyrics of that song speaks exactly to who Supergirl is and what this show is trying to portray - go actually and listen to the song, it's full of meaning - just because it's not some epic orchestral famous score or some super dreary music doesn't mean it's wrong - the songs fit the character and it fits that world
A year later, I actually like this show more than I should lol
The pilot has been leaked so I watched it and it was actually way better than I thought it would be. Definitely give it a chance.
As for the music, my two 12-14 year old daughters thought the music as PERFECT. That music is for them. Punching trucks is for us....
***** Agreed. I'm not in love with some of the earlier cuts, but I knew immediately who they were for. And I had never heard "Fight Song" before, but now I'm kinda obsessed with it.
Hello guys that don’t mean that that’s going to be the music they going to use for that episode is just a Music they put for the trailer OK
Melissa Benoist♥
I agree Melissa is beautiful
Love how Agustin loves this now
The alley way attempt to fly and saving the plane scenes got me. The music makes me want to hurl.
11:20 " What I love that she decided her own life and there wasn't a real clear love male interest..."
Mon-El : Hold my beer...
HAHAH
omg lmao
Yes, Cat Grant was in Lois and Clark as the gossip columnist at the Daily Planet. I love how they addressed the 'supergirl' thing. I love the action. I love the comedy. The Devil Wears Kara.
Kat Grant also appeared in Smallville for a few episodes in Season 9 I believe.
There are a few rumors about Superman. One is that he has been cast, but I can't find it anywhere. The other came out when Supergirl was still kind of a rumor as well, that Superman would have gone into space. For what, I don't know, but that's just what I remember.
Wow, This is like The Devil Wears Prada but Super Girl version or something like that, that kind of girl show.
Don't insult Buffy like that! :P

Nerdy guy is meant to be Winslow Schott aka Toyman. I agree with pretty much everything you guys were saying.

I like the action but there is too much cheese
Her boss is also pretty cringy

Ethan Reuben look at the second trailer its way better

looks pretty cool. i still kinda wish they went more in the new 52 direction of the character but i could see why they didn't because too many people would draw comparisons between this and the smallville version. but yeah. this looks fun
They did a second trailer which is 2 1/2 minutes as well.
exactly what I wanna say. Love your channel,!you guys do awesome reviews!

+McCaffery What kind of a girl power plot would you say caters to both genders and not just be female/feminists driven? Describe in details please.
I wish you can have a Wonder Woman show so I can see Supergirl vs. Wonder Woman
Smallville had that kind of music. So what?
Buffy was a show I really got into when I was younger but this one... Even if I was the right age I don't think I could stick with it.
I have mixed feelings about this, I'll give the first episode a try. You guys should totally watch/react to DC Legends of Tomorrow. What an awesome trailer.
The main character of the 100 is a pretty great model for young girls.
I hope they give her a sardonic Buffy edge. Fingers crossed.
I'm not sure if I'm the target audience for this series, but I'll give it a shot.
Looks like a stereotypical chick flick. Hard to take this seriously because it reminds me so much of SNL's "Age Of Me" starring Black Widow lol.
Lmao. As soon as I typed my comment, Hector just mentioned it.
+Marshall Street so have you watched it and changed your mind or what ? ^^
+LKVideos We reviewed the pilot. It's on our channel. Mid-season wrap up coming soon.
Superhero News oh I thought so but I was responding to Street's comment :)
Fine video guys. As always.
I have to agree with you. Some "girly" segments were a bit on the nose.
But hey, what do we men know. ;)
Really like Melissa as Supergirl and the action looks great.
I think that we can expect a good Supergirl show.
Imagine that 10 years ago. Great times.
Do u watch agents of shield?
It's really weird how they never refer to Superman by name, they only say ," My cousin, your cousin". Maybe I'm just reading into it too much, but it just seems odd to me.
I'll give it a chance just cos that main actress is so god damn charming.
Agustin Rios She's got that girl nextdoor vibe, here's hoping we're right.
What do you guys think of DC Legends of Tomorrow?
I haven't watched the show yet though so maybe it'll be better. Gonna watch to see how it is.
Everyone seems to agree that the music is what makes things bad here.
extraleague01 that music is NOT in the pilot. Just the preview. Although I think Fight Song should be the opening theme song, it's a great song.
Steve Hamedl
I know that song is not in the pilot. Just in the trailer. The pilot itself was better than what the trailer made it look like. I wouldn't say it was a very good pilot, though.
Steve Hamedl I agree with you since watching the trailer to all these reviews I can't get that song out of my head.
had the same impression...
I just hope its similar :)
sincerely: Hardcore Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan
So, I watched this video shortly after the trailer was released and really disagreed with the opinion that the music wasn't heroic or powerful. I really thought that "Fight Song" was the perfect song for this trailer and actually couldn't understand how this thought wasn't shared. Since then, girls/women across the globe have embraced this song as a personal anthem, stating that they have the strength to persevere. Do you suppose that this may just be a difference of the sexes? I'm actually really curious on your thoughts.
You guys should watch the second trailer, it's a lot better (more action) and it looks awesome.
Have you done a video reaction on legends of tomorrow?
Sorry about the music guys but you're not in the target demographic. Think about it. If you were, the trailer would be a Playboy commercial.
better microphones guys, you need them
You guys doing legends of tmw too????
Superhero News I know this is way out of context, but I think Hector's new hair-do looks awesome! Lookin more like Oscar Isaac, if i say so myself. (:
theprototypeguy You're good people.
Nahh you guys are for bringing the best content in the superhero department. Seriously. You deserve MOAR subscribers! (:
theprototypeguy Then again, everyone was complaining about The Flash trailer, saying that it was too long and that it ruined his origin, but now it's everyone's favorite DC show.
Would anyone like Tom Welling to reprise his role as Superman?
supergirl in this trailer is nothing like buffy
Please react to the Legends of Tomorrow trailer! It's pretty sick
you guys should react to what if man of steel had colour!
Seen the episode, and all of the concerns raised in the trailer are really not present, or at least far less underlined. Its a lot better then the trailer. And its a pilot. I'm sure they'll refine it more before it reaches season one run...
Well...fingers crossed
I have seen the pilot and i can say. The trailer does not do it any justice. Music in the trailer ruined it.
Is it just me or does Kara's personality come across as the female version of the Flash? Everytime she opened her mouth I could see Barry Allen speaking.
Supergirl needs a wonderbra. She's supposed to be as busty as Wonder Woman.
Unless one of her superpowers is perfectly coiffed hair I can't suspend disbelief enough to accept anything other than a braid down her back as a serious hairstyle for this character. Come on, she's flying!
