I think what some people are forgetting was that Supergirl was created to target the female comic fan demographic. She acts exactly how golden age Kara acted. She was a young woman who wasn't sure about her place, and having larger than life boots to fill.
I don't need to watch it, I feel like I have watched it already from the length of the trailer we have basically seen the whole season, why cant they stick to a 30 second teaser trailer instead of a 5 minute trailer?
Lol you haven't really seen her enemies yet. You saw her take down that truck but we don't know why. We didn't see that much. In fact, I'm willing to say that we only saw 2-3 episodes max. Which is still not that much.
I'm definitely gonna give it a shot. To me the trailer painted Cara as a gentle soul female, and I really like seeing someone who's not typically viewed as a bad ass actually becoming a badass. Like, you can go stop trucks and save people and ALSO like clothes and shopping and other stereotypical feminine things, and I like that. Cara isn't one or the other, she's both.
For god sake! Why is it presented as a chick flick? This looks like complete crap. Whenever it's a girl who's the main character it's always a chick flick. Why can't there be a bad ass show with a girl who's the lead who does bad ass stuff?
NiranGs Chick flick in what way? Bad ass stuff like what? Like guide a plane into a body of water? Every male super ever has had romance and a special love interest be a pretty big part of their story. It seems like you're just being sexist.
Poor Little Hairy Kids I'm not being sexiest. It 's just that this tv show is first presented as being another female romcom show and then brings in the super powers and abilities. The show already seems so childish whereas shows like Dare Devil and Arrow are more about fighting and crime. The trailer shows her stressing about what to wear for god sake, you don't see that in male based tv shows.
Poor Little Hairy Kids But give me an example of when you have ever seen any male superhero breakdown crying because some idiot doesn't want her help in fighting a villain. And then worse figuratively beg that person to ALLOW her to help. If you would never see a male superhero do those things, why is it acceptable when the hero is female?
The clichés will do more harm than good. Thematically, the show should be more like Orphan Black and less like The New Girl. Strong character, no rom-com nonsense.
I think it looks really good. Actually saw the leaked pilot. I'd say it IS really good pilot! She is extremely watchable in & out of her super suit. She has a very natural charm about her. They did a great casting job!
To be fair guys, this isn't just the CBS show, this was originally a teenage superhero, created to be a young female counterpart to Superman. She was adopted, she went to high school, she hopped around jobs like a lot of young people do. She dated a lot, and was basically a normal human being except for the saving people thing. So this isn't just meant to be a chick flick, this was how it was. You shouldn't expect something like a Black Widow show for something that really it wasn't.
Dezeray Hope THIS. Also, all the "romcom/chick flick" reactions are cracking me up, because my gut response was "Wow, someone is committed to channeling Christopher Reeve's Clark mannerisms!" (I will also note that when Superman was in an *actual* romcom, it ran for four seasons. At least two of which I do my best to block out of my memory, but, well.) This feels like the Supergirl I grew up with from the time I could read, and I'm over the moon about that. I'd much, MUCH rather have that than something where you could substitute any superhero and have the same show.
Anna Ramos So did I. The pilot is like a feminist anvil to the head. Whiny rant #1“SUPERGIRL!? We can’t call her that! She has to be Super Woman! Girl isnt very feminist!"Cue Ally Mcbeal giving a forced Ted x lecture about why "girl" is excellent and brilliant and feminist dejour.James saves her ass from getting fired from her ranting at the boss. Cue whiny rant at him, "I can handle it! I dont need you or anyone else fighting my battles for me! Generic misogynist villain - "On my planet, females bow before males!" Supergirl - This is not your planet! Thats about where I gave up...
You need to see the full pilot. It is very good and sets up the premise of the show very clearly. The show is about a young woman from Krypton who has tried to live a normal life among us Earthlings but finally embraces her destiny to become the hero that she was meant to be. It is every bit a superhero show but told from the perspective of a female who happens to be the hero. Supergirl starts the way that Smallville ended with the protagonist finally becoming the hero that we know. I look forward to this show since I enjoy Superman type shows that feature his super powers. Thank goodness that they did not create a show like Gotham called Metropolis.
It does have that chic flick vibe to it, but I don't care. It's Supergirl! I'm excited personally. Don't people remember the Supergirl movie? It had a similar vibe for the time.
I enjoyed it, chick flick stuff and all. The actress EMOTES! She's not bo-toxed! She actually has expressions on her face! Guess 'cause I'm older and grew up in the 70s, I don't feel the need to watch a show with every minute being filled with action. Is it the next Buffy? Probably not, but it's a good start at something different and fun. As for the music, some people find it annoying, but it reminds me somehow of "Ten Things I Hate About You." So teen romcom chick flick + superpowers. I can live with it.
The first half of the trailer bored me since it reminded me too much of your stereotypical rom com. But the second half where she actually got her costume, showed off her powers, and where they mentioned the existence of aliens got me pretty interested. I also want Henry Cavill to cameo in an episode so badly.
I'm more of a Superman fan essentially. But I may check this stuff out for one or 2 eps. It IS quite a girly show, but it IS Supergirl Yes, kind of cheesy but I do like the special F/X And hey, it's that Ally McBeal girl
Looks OK, The Soundtrack sounds like a Teen flick. Good Action in some parts, and i think it well last one season too two season's at most. 3/5 stars for the trailer, and I am Superman fan...like thirty years or so. Good Review...
I'm interested and kinda stoked about it since I'm a fan of her New 52 run. I'm hoping that they aren't pandering to the stereotyped female viewer here and only the kinds of viewers we get when we look at arrow and flash. I understand that there are some girly elements to it for Kara to develop as a character and to give her life outside of the superhero career, If the action and adventure portions drown out the devil wears prada crap then I'll consider it as my new show that I would set the DVR for every week of every season.
At the beginning where her planet is destroyed since she is older then her cousin you would think she would be able to fly and understand her powers better in the beginning, I don't think i'll be watching this, love supperhero series such as the arrow and the flash they're great but for some reason this doesn't look so good to me, think its because i was hoping for a badass supergirl instead i get a devil wears Prada vibe
B Monti I'm pretty sure her powers are earth specific, like the atmosphere or the specific type of sun or something that gives them powers. So Superman still has more experience with the powers than her.
Folks, broaden your minds to appreciate more than your specific geeky obsessions and understand that theatrical productions of all kinds can have multiple levels of stylization. Just a little bit of sophistication, pleae. Just a little bit.
Soooooo Devil Wears Prada. But I kinda like that XD Still, without the chick flick factor I think it might actually get more views - I don't know if they can pull off both action and drama in one series. I dunno though - it could be really balanced....
I agree with what you said about why cant I just be a kickass show about a female superhero. For future female superheroes are they going to do the same thing :/? - I didn't really like how chick-flicky it was. I'd consider myself a "girly" girl & I still would've watched it without the chick-flick factor. In fact, the chick-flick aspect of it grossed me out a little xD
I enjoy it. :-).some of people from arrow / flash team are part of this project. So I feel they will do good. I'm looking in the long run. That once it picks up. That future season will have greater tone. Just like arrow and flash pick up on further seasons. Since their on cbs. The team has to go different angel. And I think also cbs is pushing them to bring in young female viewer and more family viewers. So they have to play different tone and also the first viewers will be cbs people and the bring in new viewers.
I feel like this show is geared more towards female audience who are superhero fanatics. I don't know if I'll watch it since it seems more like a chick flick series rather than an action series :/
Truthfully your views on the show are not what's important, young girls view on the show is since it's directed to them. And damn are they excited for it.
Sophi Melissa is a great actress she's been on Broadway in les mis also the Oscar nominated movie Whiplash and of course glee. You wouldn't know good acting if it hit you in the head. And this show is going to be AWESOME
Ira Schwartz Obviously, it is just my personal opinion. Why do you dismiss the opinions of others ? "You wouldn't known good acting if it hit you in the head". What do you want me to do with that ?
How can you say that. I enjoyed her in Glee but here she the STAR and I saw the pilot and she was great. Her total character as both Cars and Supergirl was awesome
Starts off kinda corny but I think it might have potential. I love the actress. She's very likable...And of course Jimi Olson has to be tall, handsome, black dude...very PC."eyeroll" Anyway. PLOT HOLE NUMBER #1. Is the supposed to be 24? or 34?. She said "24 years ago her planet..." Yet as a young girl she looked about 10. Nothing wrong with being 34 (Im 37)but that's too old by shallow Hollywood ageism standards?
Agreed. It's not going to last if they try to do half-chick-flick / half-"serious" Or rather, 75% chick-flick & 25% serious because that's totally what I'm getting from the trailer. Hmmm... I'm a woman and this just does not appeal to me at all, not really liking the Devil Wears Prada atmosphere. I think that the stereotypical woman shows are way too over played. I hardly go out to see love films & cheesy feel good films, I like action fantasy and adventure. I guess to each their own though...
game of thrones did a better job of making badass female characters and its literally set in an obviously misogynistic world. i mean come on can we call this cliche or what. super-suit?... or should i just call it an outfit and the whole scene a makeover.....
MikeBowShow Too many holes in this Supergirl show. o_O she's whining a lot and too "pathetic" as an assistant. *sigh* If you are going to watch the show, keep us posted. I'm probably not going to...
Wish I tuned you out the second you said chick flick. So what if they want to appeal to a female crowd. It'd be moronic to not take advantage of the opportunity to attract a demographic that isn't already covered by two other very popular series they are running. Though they could have been more subtle about it... The soundtrack was horribly cliche I admit... However I don't think introducing her character as one that is conflicted between her call to being a hero and her human life any different from the Flash's or Superman's. Yeah this is a tv show that runs for full seasons and not the Man of Steel movies. They need a little more human drama rather than just having continuous explosions for 43 minutes straight. If that drama is different from that of the cliched socially awkward and misunderstood Barry Allen or the cliched emotionally tortured and misunderstood Oliver Queen then all the better, I say. That doesn't make it a chick flick (nor should it warrant those nasty disappointed grimaces if it were). It makes it different from your expectations.
Jerika Kham Admittedly, this is different. I've never seen a show attempt to blend the superhero genre with the chick flick genre. But keep in mind, that different doesn't equal good.
I think what some people are forgetting was that Supergirl was created to target the female comic fan demographic. She acts exactly how golden age Kara acted. She was a young woman who wasn't sure about her place, and having larger than life boots to fill.
I really liked the trailer. I just can't wait to show this to my sister.

Emily Husk YOU GUYS NEED TO CHECK OUT TRAILER 2.It's much better.
Emily Husk Nope, they only have the pilot filmed, this is all from the pilot.
I'm definitely gonna give it a shot. To me the trailer painted Cara as a gentle soul female, and I really like seeing someone who's not typically viewed as a bad ass actually becoming a badass. Thank god a girl is saying that
TheCell111 What trailer 2?
Anna Ramos
So did I.
The pilot is like a feminist anvil to the head. Whiny rant #1“SUPERGIRL!? We can’t call her that! She has to be Super Woman! Girl isnt very feminist!"Cue Ally Mcbeal giving a forced Ted x lecture about why "girl" is excellent and brilliant and feminist dejour.James

For a six plus minute clip, good review! Thanks for putting it together and publishing the video.
Cheers,
From what I think its awesome coz the trailer keeps you guessing and to me I actually like dat
I enjoyed it, chick flick stuff and all. The actress EMOTES! She's not bo-toxed! She actually has expressions on her face! haha, you got me subscribed at "It was dark, alright?!" :p
😜 I'm glad you caught that
The first half of the trailer bored me since it reminded me too much of your stereotypical rom com. But the second half where she actually got her costume, showed off her powers, and where they mentioned the existence of aliens got me pretty interested.
I also want Henry Cavill to cameo in an episode so badly.
I've been hearing the Devil Wears Prada phrase everywhere now. What does it mean?
The episode is available on xbmc/kodi right now
That cape that Superman gave her is not his one, you may recall Superman's dad gave him the superman suit to him
It's kinda lighthearted comparing to recent marvel stuff so I like it!
smallville is tv version of superman
new adventures of superman was also tv version of superman
I'm more of a Superman fan essentially.
But I may check this stuff out for one or 2 eps.
It IS quite a girly show, but it IS Supergirl
Yes, kind of cheesy but I do like the special F/X

are going to react to Legends of Tomorrow first look trailer?

B Monti she was older but arived later was asleep in her rocket while clark grew up
B Monti In the original comics, her home city, Argo, survived the explosion of Krypton, but was eventually destroyed as well.
B Monti I'm pretty sure her powers are earth specific, like the atmosphere or the specific type of sun or something that gives them powers. So Superman still has more experience with the powers than her.
@@ShuffleUpandDeal32 okay cool so I was right
She is older than Superman and she looks like a teenager; I think is a show for teens under 13.
Folks, broaden your minds to appreciate more than your specific geeky obsessions and understand that theatrical productions of all kinds can have multiple levels of stylization. Just a little bit of sophistication, pleae. Just a little bit.

I wanna watch this show now especially after that part where the guy was like "You're a lesbian." xD
I agree with what you said about why cant I just be a kickass show about a female superhero.

Truthfully your views on the show are not what's important, young girls view on the show is since it's directed to them. And damn are they excited for it.
Yes I have to watch it lol I'm all ready watching Marvel and Dc tv shows I have to watch super girl 2 lol
1:22 Nice white and gold dress
The girl was annoying in Glee, now she's annoying in this. The lines are way too cheesy for me. And I agree, it's quite stereotypical female.
Sophie Morin you should see an actresses whole body of work before passing judgment.Thats all I meant.I'm sorry if I offended you
Ira Schwartz No worries. I did like her in Whiplash :)
How can you say that. I enjoyed her in Glee but here she the STAR and I saw
the pilot and she was great. Her total character as both Cars and Supergirl
was awesome
Why would they make the show seem like a chic flick when that is the complete opposite of Supergirl and her story?
Too teenage rom-com finding ones self type of show. I'll still check it out but I was hoping it was going to be like a bad ass Supergirl and not this😒
I like the show, but she pronounces her name wrong. ;)
That means she older than Clark
she is going to be a bad ass !! I believe in the supergirl! :)
This looks super crappy. But then again I thought Arrow and Flash were crappy too. Maybe crappy shows aren't my cup of tea.
***** I do like Shield though.
I WILL WATCH.
Starts off kinda corny but I think it might have potential. I love the actress. She's very likable...And of course Jimi Olson has to be tall, handsome, black dude...very PC."eyeroll"

damn it, it is wayy to chick fliky...
Do a Q and A
probably gonna get cancelled after 1 season , should have went with a more serious atmosphere. And not have crappy special effects
Agreed. It's not going to last if they try to do half-chick-flick / half-"serious"
Or rather, 75% chick-flick & 25% serious because that's totally what I'm getting from the trailer.
This is a superhero movie. It'll get attention regardless of them "trying to pull in more female viewers who don't normally watch this stuff"
You were so wrong it’s now got a fourth season
Can you react to DCs the legends of tomorrow trailer
Dude. THIS is how you talk about elements you're less than thrilled about. Can you give lessons to the rest of the internet? :-)
It's funny -- I never heard anyone call her "Kare-a" before 1998, but between that and Smallville, it's how most people seem to know it now. I think I'm showing my age by being excited that she's "Kar-a."
I managed to edit my squeeful bibbling down under eight minutes. Personally, I like the so-called "chick flick" elements because they feel like the character I've always known. I think this video also feels a little weird to people because it's more like a sizzle reel from the network upfronts than a normal trailer, and since we're used to shorter trailers, this "this is the normal life that's about to get turned upside-down" part seems insanely long, and thus like more of the show than it'll probably actually be.
Okay, off to check out some of your other videos, because your face does fun things and your brain makes thoughtful words. :-)
I will watch it; looks like it has potential and I too like superhero shows and movies. BTW, my favorite hero who isn't fictitious, and is more than a hero, is Jesus the Christ!
Hmmm... I'm a woman and this just does not appeal to me at all, not really liking the Devil Wears Prada atmosphere. I think that the stereotypical woman shows are way too over played. I hardly go out to see love films & cheesy feel good films, I like action fantasy and adventure. I guess to each their own though...
Lmao this show isn't on the cw.
Second it has not connection with the universe arrow and flash live in
That is so so cool😀
Yea you are bias; you seem to think anything chick flickish as something wrong... I think it's a Great show... So there!
I didn't really like it, but I think the arrow series has finished
This looks like crap they should have just did a spin off of smallvile an use that girl who played super girl from that smallville
I liked it
It'll be cancelled before season 2.
Ok we get you are not going to watch it
game of thrones did a better job of making badass female characters and its literally set in an obviously misogynistic world. i mean come on can we call this cliche or what. super-suit?... or should i just call it an outfit and the whole scene a makeover.....
That trailer was way to long
you're adorable omg
Oh man it's too cheesy for me lol no thanks! I was hoping for some kick ass action!
I feel like it's a bit cheesy...
I'm not impressed at all by the trailer! I'm afraid it's gonna be a flop.
I don't think I'll ever watch it. The premise makes it look like a cheap superhero chick flick .
react to marvel ant man please
Colin Salisbury yo
I think that show is gonna get cancelled

The show looks fucking terrible.
