Thanks for turning this around so quickly. Really interesting to hear from Mr. Sharma on the Americas plans, especially in the context of the company's global efforts.
Excellent video and great interview! For future outdoor interviews, you might consider a big, fluffy windscreen for the mic. Awesome work! "BP Pulse: Eating the Elephant One Bite At a Time!"
Great point. BTW, I have no idea where that station is. He said off camera it is just about ready, so it is there somewhere and it is not the Duarte one we know about. At least I do not think so. He said 40 stalls with an attached facility just waiting to be energized. The Duarte one is not big enough for 40 stalls and is pretty far from LAX.
@@thenetworkarchitectchannel I’ve never stopped by a TA location, just like I never had stopped by a PFJ location until I had an EV. My discovery of PFJ was eye opening for me. How do you think TA compares to PFJ? (From your video, it looks like it might be even nicer.)
Awesome content, Walter. Man that drone puts a nice touch on the content. Glad to hear they are focusing on the “top 40 US cities”. What a huge disappointment and a huge miss, from what I gather by his answers to your questions about their rollout phasing, that they will focus on airports first. We don’t need more DC fast chargers clogged up by ride share vehicles charging above 80%.
kul. Thx. It is a fun toy to have in the tool box. Concerning airports, if you concentrate ride share charging at the gigahubs, it frees up the gas stations for us who are just trying to get by. Not sure if it will pan out that way, but it is a nice attempt. Will have to wait n see.
I can’t believe that I missed this, this is the closest charging station to my house and I have charged our Fisker ocean there multiple times already. I was wondering why I saw you commenting on PlugShare in the area!
I'd like to think that BP foresees the inevitable, and is trying to transition to a newer, better product for when the oil supply starts to dry up. Mmmmaybe. Too bad the wind kept disrupting the conversation, Walter. Still, this was a informative episode. I would have liked to see what charging stats you got from that station. Thanks!
My take on this is that it's more of a matter of BP wanting to hedge its bets. If they could wave a magic wand and force all EV drivers to go back to gas, they would do so in heartbeat, but they also want to position themselves such that, in the event that EVs do start seriously cutting into gas sales, that they have a viable charging business to make up for some of the lost revenue. That said, I would still charge my car at a BP-owned charging station since, at least my charging dollars is going to support their charging business, rather than their oil business, and, hopefully, if their charging business earns enough profit, that it will make BP's political lobbying arm slightly less hostile to the EV transition.
hey Walter - BPs website lists these as 12 chargers at 250kW. Shouldn't these be 400 kW? Did they undersize the transformer and are limiting the speeds to 250? I'm curious to hear your opinion.
The transformer is 2000 kVa. I did not do a site review or really focus on the video. I was trying to focus on the celebration. There will be opportunities to load test. Some more are coming closer to me, so likely then. Good catch. I did not notice
As expected. Truth is I was not watching it too closely. The event was still going on so I was hanging out and also went into the store again. I am sure we will get dialed in charging info from these stations in the future. There are a lot of them getting built. Thx for watching.
I have a drone, I literally used it in one video like four years ago and I got a warning letter from the FAA. I've tried to get my Part 107 license, but it's expensive, and if you fail, you have to pay again. 😢 Maybe someday I can bring drone video back to my channel If I study harder...
@thenetworkarchitectchannel Mine was a Mavic Pro. I'm not even sure if it still flies. I literally haven't flown it in the four years since that, because it scared me. Maybe I'll get it out today. Haha ( Just not post any video of it.)
Yeah, I coulda stayed back and done the last bit, but I wanted to get home to my bed. I figured I had enough to call it a full vid anyway. May go back sometime for a full site review. This was more of a celebration. Thx for watching.
I'm not surprised. Enforcement is probably highly automated these days, and the automated tools don't know or care whether the background music is incidental or not - if they detect a copyrighted tune, you get flagged, no exceptions. I guess if Walter really wanted to, he could have used editing software to filter out the background music, keeping only his voice, but that's probably too much work.
You should check out the Electric Trucker channel for some insight into how the BP pulse network will develop. It is the English dubbed channel of the original German channel which features his experience driving an electric semi truck in Germany where he primarily charges at BP pulse. Their build out in Europe is fascinating as they have rolled out bothEV car charging stations as well as dedicated electric truck charging stations at charging hubs and at their BP stations. Is it likely a model for a future USA rollout might end up looking like.
@ th-cam.com/video/JdA9mInJ0EM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=PgUt71cA6nBL-ZMr. this one is interesting as he discusses a partnership between BP Pulse (branded Aral Pulse in Germany) and Amazon, where the charging stations are reserved for Amazon drivers during certain hours and BP Pulse implementing a reservation system where timeslot could be reserved by drivers in busy locations
@@tkmedia3866 Doesn't that make repairs difficult if you have to deal with sourcing parts from 3 different manufacturers? Also 3 different compatibility issues with various auto manufactures?
Thanks for turning this around so quickly. Really interesting to hear from Mr. Sharma on the Americas plans, especially in the context of the company's global efforts.
I agree, the broader view is important. Thx for watching.
Walter. Very good content. Thanks for all your efforts 😊
I appreciate you taking the time to watch
Great questions and very interesting comments by Mr. Sharma.
Great video! It was nice seeing ya there and having time to hang out! We definitely should collab more in the future! Keep up the good work!
Yeah, that was fun. I enjoyed the time too. Hope you made it home safe. My trip back was much easier then the one south.
So you saw Ontaria, CA and you thought Canada? That's funny. Great video. I wish you would have shown the charge and the charge curve.
Need to get Walter a map of California
Yeah, my bad on that one, but it turns out their build is U.S. only. I got that clarified later off camera. BP Pulse will just be doing U.S. builds.
Nice interview, Walter. Very informative, as always. Interesting that their business case does not rely on NEVI funding.
Walter - congratulations on your successes transitioning from IT to EV - wish you well!
:-) Keeping my day job for sure. Glad u enjoy though.
Excellent video and great interview! For future outdoor interviews, you might consider a big, fluffy windscreen for the mic.
Awesome work! "BP Pulse: Eating the Elephant One Bite At a Time!"
Yeah, I need to upgrade my interview mic. I am already working on that. Thx for watching.
As windy as it was, I'm surprised the microphone did as well as it did. Big fluffy dead cats are available pretty cheap.
Wish I could've made it - great video!
Thx! It is a real nice charging spot. I recommend it if you are doing an I-95 route. All the conveniences and then some.
Keep doing these videos. Looking forward to the LAX station. Will be huge for LA28

Excellent content, Walter… Curious to see how these BP pole sites are deployed
Thanks Walter! TA with those Alpitronic chargers might just unseat PFJ with EVgo! Great to have options. (The drone footage is awesome!)
It was a fun day. No way to describe it other. Thx for watching.

The rideshare drivers do.
Ah, this is good news.
I am considering getting an EV and one of my friends lives near Jacksonville,....so I may be using this site in the future.
It is a nice one. Best wishes.
Thanks, Walter! A 40-stall site in LAX, eh? That should be fun.
Yes, not the same as the Durate location previously spotted. So two in L.A.
Lol Ontario. Great interview! Definitely saying the right things
And they look to be putting action behind it too. Looks to be epic. Thx for watching.

What a beautiful facility. I was really blown away. Had to of been the nicest travel center I have ever been to.

Where is it located in Jacksonville? We travel from NC to Miami and would like to stop by next time.
on the St. Aug side. Super nice place.
@ awesome. Jacksonville desperately needs a good charging stop other than Tesla around the airport area before the I-295 exit.
Walter, I understand that the charging session had to be removed due to the background music. But can you comment on how the session went?

That's unfortunate that the copyright got ya It's really not fair when it's incidental ambient music in the background that you have no control over.

Yes they are. Also Alpitronic and Tritium.
