St. Patrick is important, but San Guiseppe sounds wonderful, too. For us it is Clean Monday, so I cooked pasta with shrimps, but Eva would have been horrified, since I used Passata and let the dish cook for a full 20 minutes. I cannot digest pasta al dente!😊
Hey Harper -- I grew up in an Irish Catholic neighborhood. I have a great suggestion for your costumes. Get a corned beef brisket. Make a pastrami rub from some coriander, black pepper, paprika, maybe some mustard seed and garlic power (if you get the garlic powder, hide it from Eva, the poor dear). Set up your smoker. If those costumes will burn, use them to start the fire. Okay, sorry. I'll show myself out.
I'm half Irish, half Italian and we celebrated from the 17th to the 19th. My family made St. Joseph cookies. Filled with ground chickpeas, cinnamon, honey and chocolate pieces, Pasty crust, deep fried. I'm sending your Irish Zeppole recipe to my brother. He'll love it.
Ava is such a good egg! All my Italian life we’ve had zeppoles for St. Joseph’s day AND on Easter. However, we’ve always filled the pastry with custard, not just laid it on top. The custard is the star of the show! That’s how I like it, just like a cream puff. For the first time I bought the Italian cherries, can’t wait to try them. Oh dear, how does one ever lose any weight like this?!
Since you have bought the cherries, you can try them on chocolate icecream, or cream icecream. They are amazing. My granny used to put them in chocolate pudding as well. Their acidity pairs really well with rich, sweet ingredients 😊
I love that I learned to be able to identify choux pastry from how it ends up in the pot. The texture is so unique and then adding the yolk. Thank you, GBBO, for all of the contestants who were so worried about their pastry coming together properly.
Life lesson from an old married guy, you don't say "do you need a hand?", you say "let me help with that?" Eva's never going to say she needs help with something like that.
Actually, id rather it be the question Harper asked vs stepping in assuming help is needed. I expect they have a good rapport and one knows the other can help when needed.
That might have been the cutest video ever! Not a bad idea having Eva put an Italian spin on other dishes from around the world! But costume because it’s so funny! Can’t wait to try this.
I had a "Sicilian" (or so the cook making it said) Zeppole di San Giuseppe which had Fior di Sicilia in the custard and topped with chopped Citron and other candied citrus as well as pistachios. It was delicious!
My Zio Patrizio’s onomastico is twelve days after his compleanno, so we didn’t have zeppole for him, although I made 97 ravioli for his 97th birthday (45 mushroom/spinach/mascarpone and 52 ricotta/pecorino/parsley). I’ve made both baked and fried zeppole di San Giuseppe, and I slightly prefer the baked. They’re lighter and hold more custard. The Amarena Fabbri cherries are absolutely necessary. If they don’t have them at the store, have them shipped. So delicious (and worth the price)!
Here we go again with the “name depends on where you are” thing; I’m from the New York area, my grandparents were from Napoli, these things are called “Sfingi di San Giuseppe “. The recipe I use is from “il Talismano Della Felicitá” by Ada Boni. That recipe bakes them. A zeppole, at least around here, is a sweet yeast dough fried in huge vats of oil and tossed in sugar at San Gennaro, in September. Don’t even get me started on sfogliatelle….Anyway, thanks for the video, and for introducing Harper to Amarena cherries. They even have them at Costco these days.
Eva is a trip! Harper, you don't know how lucky you are to have her in your life. 😊 To open a new jar, tap the edge of the cap on the counter while turning the jar all around. This breaks the seal, and then it will open easily. Most chefs will temper eggs with only a little of the hot liquid while mixing. Then add the rest. This avoids ending up with scrambled, lumpy eggs. Happy Saint Paddy's and Giuseppi Day! Ciao
As always, I love all of the amazing recipe that Ava makes! I’ve tried many of them, and they are truly amazing! However, I have a question…..How does she know how to make so many unique and unusual things? Where did she learn how to make all of her wonderful recipes? Many other influencers on TH-cam make the most well known things, but Ava knows how to make so many unusual things, like today’s Zeppole, she’s really special!
Zeppole are not unusual, they are very common in southern Italy and you can also find them in other parts of Italy on saint Joseph's day..😊 Italian cuisine is very regional with many different recipes and evidently Eva is passionate about it👍
Cutest episode ever! I had a good belly laugh when I saw Ava in the red beard. My wife heard the words Irish Custard and now I have to make this for her. I love you guys!
I love listening to you describing while you cook. Because of this wonderful channel I am always trying to make the easier of your recipes! I now enjoy cooking & eating healthier! Thank you and someday I’m going to visit (retire & live?) Italy.
You can also freeze egg whites. And a super easy recipe is pan di spagna (sponge cake) with only egg whites (60g of egg whites instead of 1 whole egg).
I love Italian sweets and so very many are Sicilian. Thank you for all the recipes for desserts, etc. I have been looking for a recipe for a cookie called “Britton ma Bouni” (probably spelled wrong), which means Ugly but Good. They are toasted almonds with a chocolate meringue. It sounds easy and I have tried winging it, but didn’t get it right. I hate wasting expensive ingredients, so I am hoping you have a recipe for them. I had some from an Italian bakery in San Francisco years ago and they lived up to their name. They were not pretty and were very, very good. I had hundreds of cookbooks gathered over 60 odd years, but they were all lost 8 years ago when we moved. I have looked in every Italian or dessert cookbook in our local library and they have even more cookbooks than I did, but no luck. If you have not made them for your show, they would be a good candidate an easy and delicious cookie. I hope you accept my request. I have great respect for your channel and enjoy it immensely. Keep on doing for many years to come!
Lol, I never knew these were considered zeppoles! Born and raised in North Jersey, grew up with and been around Italians all my life and have been eating these “St. Joseph’s”(Americanized I know, for shame!) for years and had no idea. Learn something new all the time, thanks!
Happy St.Patricks ☘️ & St. Josephs Day! Love you both as well as your channel. Eva is the best authentic Italian cook on UTUBE! Sending love❤ and 🙌 from Connecticut.
Bravissimo Ava and Harper!!!! Now you have me headed to the grocery. These ought to be gobbled up by the baseball team today! Such a cute video today! Thank you!!!
Non posso dirti quanto non vedo l'ora che arrivi domenica per guardare il tuo spettacolo lol anche con l'odore del ragù e del coniglio in casa mia, non vedo l'ora di sapere cosa cucinerete voi ragazzi!
My Nonna loved to celebrate San Giuseppe with lagane e ceci. I’ve never made the lagane from scratch, but I often prepare the ceci with some short pasta-preferably calamarate o mezzi rigatoni. Buonissimi! 😋
Southcentral Texas: USA 🇺🇸: for the record- pastry 🥐 from Italy 🇮🇹 Recipe ( incredible) again: incredible: btw: thank you 😊 & Happy Birthday ⬆️ upcoming feast of Saint Joseph ( Roman Catholic) !!!
Ok, I have to try this. My dad was Sicilian, name was Joseph, always celebrated at our old neighborhood. I never tried making them, but not so intimidating. Thank you Eva. March 20, San Giuseppe, ( St. Joseph celebration)🥰 you both look so cute, with your Irish costumes. Happy ☘️ St.Patricks Day!
The Zeppole look delicious, I'll try to make some soon. I grew up in New Orleans and there were many immigrants from both Italy (especially Sicily) and Ireland who settled there in the 19th century. There are celebrations honoring St.Patrick and St.Joseph and of course lots of good food and drink. There still are many elaborate St.Joseph's Day altars which include a wide variety of delicious Italian pastries .
They look scrumptious. Interesting that St Patricks Day passes almost unnoticed in Ireland, at least among my Irish friends. It’s celebrated here in Australia but not widely.
Eva, thanks for another wonderful video! By the way Carolan's Irish Cream is the original Irish Cream, it's imported from Ireland not made in the USA! 🙂🍀
Best video on TH-cam! “Help me San Patricio! Hahahaha aye Eva. Little know fact St Patrick had Italian roots ;) Harper, that “I Love You!” at the end, ❤that for Eva so much
Eva is such a good sport! She's beautiful, too! Choux pastry is such fun to work with and very versatile - my daughter and I made our first cream puffs a month or so ago. This recipe looks yummy and fairly easy to make. Will have to give it a try. Love you guys!❤ Happy St. Patrick's Day!☘️
Great job once again Eva! Both versions look delicious, but I suspect I'd prefer the St Joseph's variation with the Amarena cherries. I've only ever had them in gelato but I'm sure they go beautifully with the custard. BTW when I moved to Ireland I was told a number of times that NO ONE in Ireland uses the expression 'top of the mornin.' Happy St Patrick's Day!
tell Eva that the Saint Patrick was Italian. Look it up! I can’t wait to make these. They are similar to Sicilian spingi…maybe Eva you can make those next?
I LOVE zeppole!!! And I know how to make this dough pate choux, really simple. I will be trying this recipe! with ciliegie and this crema it sounds delicious (I like the word ciliegie)
Happy St. Patrick's Day! And Happy San Giuseppe Day! There's a lot to celebrate... got any special food on the menu this week?
I’d prefer San Giuseppe Day over St Patrick’s any time!
St. Patrick is important, but San Guiseppe sounds wonderful, too. For us it is Clean Monday, so I cooked pasta with shrimps, but Eva would have been horrified, since I used Passata and let the dish cook for a full 20 minutes. I cannot digest pasta al dente!😊
Pasta con sarde. White tablecloth. Statue of St Joe on the table. Don't forget to give to the poor.
Sfingi
I had Zeppole at my favorite restaurant last night. Had no idea of the back story but it was delicious.
Eva saying she thought Harper wanted to just wear something stupid sent me. She is savage! And I am HERE for it!!!!
That's the calabrian way.My Nonna was blunt like this & My mum is the same😮
@@crankiemanx8423 Not only Calabrian.. I think it's a standard Southern Italian thing. lol they give no Fks
Lol so you like seeing abuse...ok

😂😂😂
st. Giuseppe day is awesome and should be recognized today even more
Proto-step-dad ! ! ! a REAL father 😃
La zeppole di san Giuseppe sono napoletane, no irlandesi

Their acidity pairs really well with rich, sweet ingredients 😊
Being Irish and Italian, this was the best episode ever!
It’s so cool how the parchment paper just gently floats away from the choux pastry in the fryer.
That is magic! (also science, but 🤫) 🪄
I love that I learned to be able to identify choux pastry from how it ends up in the pot. The texture is so unique and then adding the yolk. Thank you, GBBO, for all of the contestants who were so worried about their pastry coming together properly.

Actually, id rather it be the question Harper asked vs stepping in assuming help is needed. I expect they have a good rapport and one knows the other can help when needed.
Because she didn’t. Which could have been a lesson in people knowing their abilities and respecting when they ask for help.
I agree with the supportive sentiment, but can respect if her pride makes her not want help yet. ♥️
Can I help you?
Hazelnuts would be local to Ireland. And Happy St Patrick's/Giuseppe Day !
I dunno: hazelnuts are also called filberts because they’re harvested on the feast of San Fillipo. I think he was French?
@@PaulScoles-r4s the common hazel but am sure hazel was being harvested long before then. The product these make is called praline.
That was so funny when Eva appeared in costume! Lol!! 😂 ☘️
You guys😂😂😂 burst out laughing at poor Eva in that get-up.
Oh my! I have not seen these in 40 years. Grandma's favorite for sure.
Zeppole is an absolute food drug.
Delicious.
Of course, in the various regions of Italy, as well as with cooking dishes, you can find some very interesting variations.
La zeppole di san Giuseppe è solo napoletana, no è siciliana
MY MOST FAVORITE DESSERT EVER!! Happy St. Joseph’s Day 🤍and St. Patrick’s Day ☘
My Zio Patrizio’s onomastico is twelve days after his compleanno, so we didn’t have zeppole for him, although I made 97 ravioli for his 97th birthday (45 mushroom/spinach/mascarpone and 52 ricotta/pecorino/parsley). Buona Domenica ragazzi! You could have made pistacchio pudding for the St Patrick zeppole😉💚☘🍀

Loved these every March when I was growing up in Providence. I really miss the Italian bakeries since moving to Maine many moons ago.

Mr.Ava…..St.Paddy’s day. Luv it. Looks delish. Yummy.😊
I liked learning the custard technique of whisking egg yolks, sugar and corn starch together. The costumes were funny!

Cruller with lemon custard. Sounds good.

Oh my goodness - those look insanely yummy! Steak and ale pie for us today! Thank you, Eva! Erin go bragh!

Do not know about Ireland but there are English walnuts. Not widely grown now but can still be found in some orchards. 😊😊😊😊
She said "dissolve" instead of melt.... whoa!!!
So happy.😊🤗
Happy St Paddy's Day everyone!!!
Just found your channel...LOVE IT!!! 😂🙆🏻♀️
I would die laughing if you ever introduced yourself at the beginning , the way Eva pronounces you name. Ciao, I’m Arrperrah 😂

Great 👍 and Happy Saints Patrick and Joseph Days. Erin go Bragh and Roma Aeterna
The dough is the same when you make eclairs and cream puffs! I haven’t fried them before and will give it a go! Happy Zeppole Day!
I love the version stuffed with cannoli cream. OMG. I CAN EAT THEM ALL DAY 😂😂😂
Eva's beard was great!!!
I'm very excited to know how to make one of my favorite childhood treats. Thank you!
Happy St. Patrick day Eva and Harper. That looked fun.
Ate them in Sicily had different toppings and Easter was a big party there too
tell Eva that the Saint Patrick was Italian. Look it up! I can’t wait to make these. They are similar to Sicilian spingi…maybe Eva you can make those next?
Oh my, do those look good!
I always had these with ricotta filling
Here in Little Rhody we cut them in half and fill with the custard! I have never had one with those cherries.I am going to go get some! Yum!!!
Tasty fun!
I’m making this today seems really delicoussss
Oh my goodness..I adore you Eva, you are such a great sport! ☺️ Those treats look so amazing my mouth is watering 🤤
☘️Happy☘️St.☘️Patrick's☘️Day☘️!!
Love you both for this video...lots of giggles 😂
Thanks Ava for dressing up..🍀🍀
I LOVE zeppole!!! And I know how to make this dough pate choux, really simple. I will be trying this recipe! with ciliegie and this crema it sounds delicious (I like the word ciliegie)
Oh you two are such fun. Shalom.
Love it!!!
Tip: Ues a vegetable peeler for the lemon, you'll get the peel and no pith. It works really well!
Eva you’re awesome thank you for sharing health
I'd love to have little figurines of the two of you to put in my garden 😂
Being a NY'ER, and italian decent. These are a staple of life.
Happy San Patricios Day! PS Ava is an incredibly good sport. That beard!!!
