  • This is the classic MINI DIY documentary I made in the late 80's to celebrate Mini's 40th birthday. It became a collectible video in its day and probably the ultimate guide to what can be done to classic Minis by the people who really know. Janspeed were at the start of the development of the Mini Coopers and Cooper S's and became one of the most celebrated, successful tuning companies for race Minis, winning shelf full's of trophies.
    The original video was an hour long so it has been divided here into four parts so please see the others in the series.
    Enjoy the video and I hope it gives you some insight into what is possible and give you some ideas as to what you might do with your own classic Mini!

    Fantastic . Those old engineering shops had a unique smell and the fellas were proper craftsman .
    Makes me want another fast mini again . . .

    loved watching this took me back to my apprenticeship days in the early 70,' s in north London our local engineering shop was Johnson a and Roberts of crouch end they where mechanical Marvel's all real engineers some had been there 30 years

    I'd love to know when this actually was? You said 80s and 40 year anniversary. 1989 Would be 30 years and 1999, 40 years. Just checked and DHR 586L is still alive and on the road, taxed until end of April 2019.

      The build was around 1989 I believe and DHR is still on the road in Scotland and taxed till end 2020.. Apparently only done about 5.5K miles since this build, and was stored for a long time before being fully recommissioned around 2010..

    At the point of after one minute of this video, it states that to help avoid having the gasket blow, it's good to use a fuse wire. Can anyone please tell me what is the recommended size of the wire and what glue/sealant is best to use? Thanks

    why use duplex change when belt drive is more efficient

      @@mesco8200 And chains don't tend to break. Because belt conversions for the A-Series use such a tiny belt, they have a really short change interval of 30k miles or less and are very tricky to do with engine in situ.
