My mom worked in a toy factory next to that airport in the early 90's and loved when my dad took me and younger brother to pick her up from work. My dad used to arrive 30 minutes early because we loved watching the planes land and takeoff. Great memories! Thanks for this video!
I love when the coastline comes into view you can see the Palos Verdes peninsula to the north with the fog bank around it. I used to live there and it was always foggy. Great views of OC. I was stationed at El Toro in the 60"s and the view was quite different... mostly citrus groves. Thanks for the video.
You should take off from SNA. They might not do it anymore, but when they got of the expensive homes, they used to reduce power. It made it feel like you where on the top of the hill of a roller coaster and going down. To "reduce noise" to the people there.
@@AListFlierKris - I know. I have flown out of SNA a lot (I live about 7 miles from it). But if you are not expecting it, or know it is coming, it can be a shock. To suddenly feel like the plane is falling out of the sky. 😱
I worked at SNA for many years. The airport is one of most heavily instrumented for noise regulation that many plane manufacturers used it as part of their certification process
It’s just the perspective. With the rate at which we were overtaking that acft the reference points in relation to it make it look like it’s stationary. When I first saw it out the window it startled me cuz it just appeared from under our wing.
12:25 Are you allowed to park & watch planes land right there? I've always wondered because I never see anyone doing it however it looks like an amazing spot.
You should see the spot on the right hand side near the runway itself. Basically a building complex on the right, runway right on the left. There is a small opening in the bushes, you can go in there and see a perfect view of takeoff and landing. You can feel the breeze.. it’s so nice.
@@goalie7547 I think I was in that spot a few weeks ago…. I saw security driving around & looking at me, however no one ever approached me. It’s kind of an awkward feeling to know that you’re being watched & all I wanted to do was enjoy the beauty of the planes landing. I don’t know if I’ll go back for that reason.
@@poker_18rs92 I also had that one car driving around, driver didn’t notice me though. I mean honestly it’s an airport, so your gonna be watched no matter what, especially if your that close to the fence. But if you just stay there respectfully you should be fine. Like if you start climbing it’s over
If it’s the parking lot I think it is, it might be the Main Street / remote parking lot, owned by the airport. You’d have to pay the hourly / daily rate if that is the lot I think it is
Being my first time arriving into SNA I was on the lookout for it since ive never seen it before. I always enjoy spotting landmarks and interesting places from the air.

That’s a great memory indeed! I have similar memories around Dallas Love as a kid. there’s something about smaller airports in dense urban areas.

I was looking for old movie clips of John Wayne and here I am watching a plane land! Nice video
Great shot!! Very nice vid!
12:26 little cessna 172 parallel landing 😂
not gonna lie, it surprised the heck out of me when I saw it. it just kind of materialized outside the window.
Brakes ! brakes ! brakes!!!
12:40 landing is alway hard at SNA . I know the lack of runway but evertime I land there it's just sudden drop and to a full stop
Yeah recently southwest airline did a hard landing at this airport that it fractured one of the flight attendant spine……
@@shy8170 oh my goodness
Yeah. There’s no time to butter the landing. The pilots’ only job is to get the plane down safely on the short rwy

It’s a noise abatement procedure. Many airports have them but the one out of SNA is one of the most stringent & extreme ones.

Love the vid I lived there for ages can actually see my home
so can i
Same here! (and my place of work)
WTF is happening with the plane going on in the background at 12:31 ? Looks like it's just hovering in the air?

My favorite airport!

I’m not sure who that parking lot belongs to, if I had to guess I’d assume it’s employee parking.

Whoa!! 😳
That was not a hard landing for SNA, it was a normal one!!!!
