Great video - Our south facing roof is largely shaded by a big tree meaning we'd only get sunlight from after 2.00pm. So the alternative is our garage roof. Its a shallow apex east/west facing. Have you ever done this sort of installation? 😃😃

Interesting video. Thanks. I have checked the mentioned regulation, and it doesn’t specify a minimum 1 metre margin/height limits. Part 14, Class A.1 states that solar PV panels must not protrude more than 20cm beyond the plane of the wall (imagine if someone did that?😂) and must not be higher than 60cm above the highest part of the roof.

Flat roofs generally need the felt replacing etc. How would having Solar panels affect this when the time comes to replace the roof felt. Would you have to have the solar specialists come in to remove the panels before the roofer replaces the felt?

That really depends on the roof and system. Panels are plug and play units so can be removed quite easily.

Does the construction of the flat roof matter. Ours doesnt have ply immediately under the felt layers. its a warm roof. Construction is beams then osb boards then 150mm insulation then comes felting (3 layer felt i think).
Would panels and ballast cause depressions on roof? Thanks

That's not something we could comment on without looking at it - most flat roofs will take the weight of panels and the mounting rails - but it would need a proper survey.

Does a flat roof at the back of my house that can't be seen from the street still need panels to be 1m from the edge?
Is the rule just about what things looks like from the street? Permitted Development is planning and is about 'looks' so don't quite understand the 1m rule except for frontage of property? Can you clarify? Thanks

@@nic47531 The fitting of panels is the MCS guidance - so it's about safety rather than aesthetics
