      Hi Roger, love your videos! I was wondering if you could make a video on creating stems on the MV 8000 using the track you used for the mastering video?

    Great stuff, nice final mix! The onboard Mastering Tool was one of Roland’s most underrated and misunderstood onboard features. Not bashing Akai (especially since I have the MPC “X”) but it’s a testament to how far ahead of it’s time the MV was when you consider many of the features presently being added (version 2.4) to Akai’s MPC lines are features the MV has had for over 12 years now! Can only imagine what the MV could have evolved into using today’s technology and Roland’s experience making Groove Samplers. Anyway, cheers and keep the videos coming!

      KeysBeMe ✌🏽thanks for taking time to comment.
      Yes...incredible that this machine was released in the early 00’s. It’s so complete.
      It looks like Roland in that time thought ‘ok....computers will win this contest’.
      Anyway...in 2019 this unit still stands tall.

    Great video Roger. You should do another on like this a little more detailed. This is the video I used to learn how to mix down and master my tracks on my MV.

      Hi Yves!
      Thanks for the suggestion.
      I've received this week two questions about using the MV as a multi track recorder.
      So this part would be nice to add!
      Thank you!

    Did a quick mini DJ mix today using mixdown mode not sure if your subscribers know about this trick from the old Mike Acosta promo vids...just click mixdown hit record and your bypassing the RAM sampling and recording straight to HDD/SSD(CF in your case Roger!)... anyway love your vids as always please cover this method if you think it would be another great addition to your playlist!

    So you can record the automation and tweaks of the mastering settings as a take ? Can you even use different mastering templates on different parts of the song in one take ?

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      YourBestChess Now Unfortunately it’s not possible to have different sections with different settings.
      You choose your settings and so the final recording.
      With a workaround it’s possible because the final mix is saved as a Wav-files.
      After recording several takes you could truncate the parts and combine them in the MV.
      But that’s a time consuming process.

    Great great video! As of my post, I just did the same thing myself for The Producers Corner challenge #73! ( Here on TH-cam!! Come subscribe to the page & join in the sampling fun!! ) I made a beat in the MV, mixed it down & mastered it! I transferred it via computer as a wav. & converted it to an mp3. Then I uploaded it to SoundCloud for the challenge!! One thing you missed that's very important!!... When going into MIXDOWN & MASTERING MODES in the MV, be sure to TURN YOUR STUDIO MONITORS DOWN & TURN THE MV's VOLUME ALL THE WAY UP!! This is for BOTH modes!! That way the MV will properly record at the correct volume!! People would forget to do this & think something would be wrong! No, nothing is wrong, you just forgot to turn the MV's VOLUME knob all the way up!! Otherwise this video was on point!!

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sinosure thanks for your positive feedback.
      I agree with you that I had to mention the point regarding the volume knob and had to shoot also the MV itself.
      I had the volume knob totally up and the monitors down on both mixes but you don’t see that now in the vid.
      I will take a look on your vid because I want to learn more about mastering.
      Thanks a lot!

    Awesome machine but i always thought that recording to make the beat or track and then recording again to mix it down and again to master it was one to many steps for a groove box.I had one of these things.Plus i was an avid hard disc recorder user and those units didn't always put through so many loop holes.(What i meant was that recording the mix should be optional )

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it's indeed a very deep and complex unit. Lot of options but it can be overwhelming.

      Cyan Stripe Wow! That’s a great and appreciated comment.
      Wish I was true, though.
      My channel is just 1 year old and I’m patient.
      Most important is that the 866 subs are getting the content they like/want.
      When I reach 1K I will 🍾🥂 for sure 😁

    • @theMIDImaniac

      GeneralDead1978 In this vídeo all was done by the MV.
      Soon I will do a mix down + mastering vid on the VS2400.
      Perhaps with the same track to have comparison material.

    • @GeneralDead1978
      @GeneralDead1978 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I meant not this video, i'm about your usual work in studio for mix down and etc. Yes vids on the 2400 will be interesting, i also have similar portostudio (yamaha aw4416, less features like vga and track counts but with 24 inputs).

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      GeneralDead1978 ah ok😅...misunderstanding.
      Well...here it comes...this was my first time mastering a complete song.
      I’m just an hobbyist, playing for my own fun. Don’t produce tracks, don’t do gigs, never distributed my music.
      This was my first mastering project....🙈
      It felt good! I was surprised about the difference in quality.
      I wish i was a Pro, though.
      Well...let’s see what the future brings.

    Bless midi maniac , have you studied or looked into automation movements (when recording a track, have been studying this very issue for like 3 days , and it seems like you have to select a mid track or audio track (empty) then record your movements , rather it be panning, reverb , or level changes) i did some real-time automation with the panning & reverb as i can see some events on the track , But then when I load a patch to it nothing happens, and I also loaded a patch first recorded some automation movements , and nothing happens, reply back asap and let me know what u come up with, much peace Wiz

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      papa wiz Hi!
      This is 100% coincidence because I’m diving deeper and deeper into automation recording. Now I’m learning to read sysex and to record that.
      Soon a new vid.
      Back to your question/issue.
      My first advice is to record separate tracks.
      So, first select a sound and create a track with that sound.
      Now, create a new track with the same sound and record now the movements of volume and pan. This has to be done with assignable sliders! Not with the knobs in the mixer section.
      If all is right you will notice grey recording bars appearing on the track.
      On the bottom of the screen you see ‘event list’. When you click this button, then you will see a list of the recorded events like notes, CCs, velocity etc. Use this now pure as a reference for knowing what you’ve recorded.
      I hope this helps.
      Grtzzz, Roger

      @@theMIDImaniac bless at u, thanx sooooooooooooo much for hitting me back, so u saying i will be using 2 tracks?? i just selected a sound a created a track like u said, so u saying create another (new track with the same sound?? and just record the automation movements with the new track??? question after i first select a sound and a track for the sound first, do i or should i record anything on to it? or just leave it blank? and u say volume and pan, can i record any movements with the reverb slider, also im moving my sliders but i see no grey bars, getting ready to watch your video now

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      papa wiz The reason to have two tracks is only for visual difference between the notes and the movements.
      In the system menu you’ll see ‘sliders’. Over there you see 8 parameters for each slider.
      When you press the button of ‘assignable sliders’ they will become active.
      Record some notes and check if you’re able to adjust the sound with the sliders.
      Select ‘mixer’ to see movements of the knobs when using the sliders.
      When you see movement, then recording should also work.
      Keep me posted on the progress.
