    My fingers are burning! Thanks again for the videos Troy! They really come as a great addition to the books. I especialy like the explanation on how to keep an exercise interesting.Would be so proud if I can nail this one. One of the problems I have is to keep the sustain during the vibrato ... a lot of work is coming for this summer 🤘

    • @TroyStetinaMusic
      @TroyStetinaMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      oh, you'll nail it. It may take some time but you'll get it. One of the secrets to speed is not to push too hard, but play at 80-90% of speed to get it all accurately, then push it

    Thanks, Troy for the hurdle-breaking advice i.e. to get the sound under the fingers first at 9:10, and then work it out with the metronome and get the timing. I had been always worrying about the timing and landed up not moving ahead. However, this works for me. Indebted for the priceless advice. Please take a bow. You're the best.

    This really got me pumped when I could nail the palm muted lick and the last licks without losing the groove. The rhythm guitar took me a bit to get under my fingers too. When I could play this after putting in the woodshed time - I started to sound like a real gigging guitarist.
    When I was practicing today I came up with this motif & theme that was just a real solid rocking groove & knew I had something kick ass! Well, it turns out that it really does kick ass but it wasn't mine. It's the theme line from Sunrise off Exottica! LMAO!!! I really thought I'd "stumbled" on to something that was just flowing nice & was such a complete thought with the motif, the lead line & theme. That's because I spent countless days trying to play a long with that entire album - have you ever had one of those before? That thought - yeah man, this is groovin & really coming together!!! Then it hits all at once & you realize it's someone's music with maybe a little variation or in a different key? That feeling of being excited to instant "oh man......" Woodshed time is NEVER wasted time! Keep doing the good stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🤘😁🤘

    brilliant work, I remember when I first bought the books and heard the solos back home. To me, owning these books was the event of the century. I did buy all the books I could find, but all the other ones quickly paled in comparison. I wore down both cds and books from vol.1 and 2. At the time I could not speak English so I paired the books with a dictionary, translating every word. I carried these books with me everywhere. And the tone is unsurpassed....cranked Marshall tube tone on steroids..... since then all the plastic sounding “digital simulator” stuff really killed it for me. If it didn’t have tubes in it, I did not want it. The playing and the tone on these books have been my yardstick for years, against which I would measure my own. But I am sure that it has been the same for many others. And, these books are more influential than people admit. For example the term “hammer from nowhere” I first saw in Troy’s books, but now everyone says it (and that is OK; I am just saying). I also am pretty sure that EVERY shredder who became famous after about 1988 or so, know these books well. I have learned to play much else besides lead guitar (to my own surprise), but for that one thing these books have always been my favs :)

    • @TroyStetinaMusic
      @TroyStetinaMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, thank you Luigi! Very satisfying to hear how much that work inspired and influenced you. Thanks for letting me know and for pursuing your musical path! Yeah, tone is really where it's at I think... with a good tone everything sounds good; with a lousy tone everything pretty much sucks even if its played well. But the digital is just about caught up now. I actually record digital a lot these days. It's definitely harder to get it to work well, but I think it can be done. The beauty, of course, is the flexibility to switch tones and fx in an instant. I sometimes use a VOX modeling pedalboard into a guitar power amp and mic the cabinet. The speaker and mic gets a lot of the tone.

    • @luigipati3815
      @luigipati3815 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I know what you mean about switching tone and fx on the fly, in fact my “purist” approach to tone means I am stuck with 2 sounds, crunch and lead, but I still prefer it to the digital thing, which I just cannot use. I have indeed used the Vox Tonelab pedalboard you have, it definitely is the best amp modeller out there , although I could only really liked the AC30 patch, which sounds really warm. The Vox Tonelab still works the best out of all the digital simulators because although it uses a digital preamp, the power amp is a true tube amp, all analog, in miniature. But I use pretty much a Marshall in a closet now....I push the heck out of it with a powerbrake, and then into a Randall ISO cab. Keeps things very quiet and sounds WAY better than digital. Yes it’s a bit more fiddly than a pedalboard or a VST, but I think it is well worth it. As for how your work has influenced me, are you kidding? Heavy Metal Lead Guitar vol. 1 and 2 have influenced me more than any other guitarist, period. And also kept me inspired for years. What these books immediately taught me, was that a great guitarist must have tone and musicality, and that anything less won’t do. I literally used to wake up in the morning, jump out of bed with the riff of “From The Heart” or “Into The Spotlight” in my head, just itching to plug in and start playing. But I am sure many others have felt the same about your books, because I see them mentioned everywhere. I am not famous, but I don’t care about that, as these things fall out of our control (how many bad players became famous? I have seen several....it is the luck of the draw, mainly) my goal was to learn to play as well as possible, I feel I have accomplished my mission and am completely satisfied now with my guitar playing, and your great books definitely, definitely played a big part! Rock on, be well and stay safe, Troy. Cheers!

      Thanks Enrico! It's relatively easy in the scheme of things for lead guitar, although the tempo does require some working up to. Basically, this is where the method hits the ground running and moves gradually upward from there.

    I’ve bought 6 of your books Troy and I’m so happy to see a video to help on this! “Open Fire” was fairly easy but “To the Stage” is a whole ‘nother level and I’ve really been struggling to play it up to speed. Been practicing for months and I’m getting closer but it is so frustrating to feel like I’m never gonna get there.

If you would like more help with it, you can check out patreon.com/TroyStetina tier 3 where you'll find others also working on the same issues, sharing those experiences, etc. I also do monthly Q&A and video reviews (although those are at slightly higher tiers I think). Anyway something to consider to help clarify practice approaches, progress and results. Good luck!

    I bought these methods when they were sold with cassettes ! And then I got the CD versions.
    If I allow myself a suggestion, you should also highlight some elements of "Speed & Thrash Guitar Method", a great method, underestimated, which gives access to all the, let say, "post-Venom" metal ♫♪♫.
    At the time, I also bought the drummer version: the "Speed & Thrash Drum Method", and gave it to the drummer I was playing with. I guess it's one of the few methods (the only one maybe ?) that allows the guitarist and the drummer to work together.
