    Thank you for this video. I made curtains for our truck cap camper following your instructions and products. I bought the black-out curtains from Walmart and they worked well. The curtains also helped to keep the cold weather out of the truck cap when we slept and the heat out during the day. This worked well for our 8 day camping trip to Kentucky. I am thankful for the truck bed build suggestions as we slept in the truck cap camper and were safe. We had a bear inspect our tent that we had our equipment in. There was no food stored in the tent. I now get to try to fix screens on the tent from the damage from the bear. We hear people screaming and yelling in the next camp loop as a bear was probably over there looking for anything to eat.

      Yikes, sounds like quite the adventure! Glad the curtains came in handy, and you found the truck camping info on our site helpful too! Happy trails!

    I love that word " adhesis ".
    Attach the hang strips to front top of curtain. Then roll up curtain and bring strip up and attach hook side to wall... if it has liner.

    I want to use your roll up with built in pockets sewed into the material. I'm currently using tubs for my clothes and they take up too much room. I have a full size 2005 Denali.

    I like your innovation! Doing this in my truck. I wonder if a tent pole or something of the sorts on the bottom will help them keep shape when rolled up.

      Thanks! Good idea with the tent pole, though we liked being able to roll one end partially up for ventilation when needed too and that may make it a little more challenging 🤷🏻‍♂️👍🏼

      Super late to this, but I’ve seen people also glue magnets to the screws and put a wire hanger through the bottom of the curtain.

    I know I’m late to this video but can I ask what size mattress you have in there? It looks like it fits absolutely perfect 👌🏼

      For sure, we actually have a video on our channel all about it, and a ton more info on our site here: www.takethetruck.com/blog/truck-bed-mattress

    Have you had any issues with the adhesive velcro when parked in the sun on high heat days? I attempted to mount my reflectix in my windows in this same way and I had issues with the adhesive breaking down in the heat. Although, I didn't line the entire window from with velcro. I just used several 2-3inch strips all around the frame. The first day it got above 85 degrees here in kansas with the sun out, I looked in my rearview mirror to see all my reflectix sagging and barely hanging on. The velcro stayed attached to the reflectix just fine, but pulled away from the window frame as it got really hot.

      @takethetruck  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No issues in ours, but it was ventilated with a vent fan. Would imagine extremely hot temps could effect most adhesive though.

      @@takethetruck Interesting. With the reflectix in all my windows, it kept the inside of the cap way cooler. It was more of an issue of the sun beating down on the window frame and heating it up from the outside. I haven't been able to try and keep it in the shade as it is my daily driver and often sits at a boat ramp all day on the weekends.

    Looking to attack this project soon. You still have your measurements for Windows? I'd love a starting point... my cap is in process of being created.... few more weeks of lead time. Ty in advance.

    Has the Velcro wear out the material over time

    Do you think screwing in curtain hooks would be a wise idea for the truck cap?

    • @takethetruck
      @takethetruck  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We try to avoid making any permanent modifications to the camper unless their absolutely necessary (like our vent fan install), and with this and other options there's no need to screw into the camper shell to have some good curtains for truck camping.

  • @alexavigs
    @alexavigs 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    U should sell these curtains that are made like this!

    • @takethetruck
      @takethetruck  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are best for a DIY because all camper shells are a bit different (different window heights and configurations, etc.) and they do take a bit of time and skill to sew up. But definitely a rewarding project 👍

    What do you do when you want to sleep with the window open for airflow?

    • @takethetruck

      Great question! We used the vent fan we installed - we've got a video about it on our channel 👍

  • @mzmudy
    @mzmudy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This looks great! Has the velcro held up over time? Did you only attach the velcro on the curtains to the carpet in the shell? Or did you use any velcro tape? I feel like the glue on the tape would wear out. How about ventilation? Good work!

    • @takethetruck
      @takethetruck  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We used the velcro tape on the upper part of the window frame and it held up just fine. 👍🏼 As for ventilation, we installed a Maxxfan and have another vid on our channel detailing the install - definitely a good upgrade!

      @@AnthonyHaynes-l1h they’re great but do take a bit of time to custom make them for each camper shell - especially for sewing novice like myself. Great DIY project, but I’m too slow to make them professionally 😅
