I hope so, it would be so cool to see NASCAR style cars with high HP, low downforce competing like this on the world stage, and maybe, just maybe, getting their own class in the WEC. The US have an uncommon problem in that while they're mostly known for their ovals they have a plethora of great road courses that don't get much attention and are also underutilized. That is why I feel that an Australian Supercars style series would be perfect for the US. Only road courses in the US and Canada with a calendar that looks like this:
    Mosport
    Gilles Villeneuve
    Lime Rock
    Virginia International
    Watkins Glen
    Sebring
    Road America
    Road Atlanta
    Mid Ohio
    Portland
    Sonoma
    Long Beach
    Laguna Seca
    Barber
I think this would be great. The problem is that between IMSA, NASCAR and Indycar there isn't really much top line driver talent left, plus the viewership would probably not be high because of these other series. But I have an idea to solve this. There's no way to avoid overlap with NASCAR those guys race essentially every week. But especially IMSA and to a lesser extent Indycar have long periods of time without any racing. So I'd schedule events of my series during off weekends of Indycar and IMSA. This way you can have IMSA drivers on the grid ( maybe even someone like Scott McLaughlin ) and also you don't have to fight for TV ratings with them because when your races are on IMSA and Indycar are not racing.

  • @edugj23

The WEC had a little bit of a weird period in the late 2010s, but it seems to be getting back to form.

IMO, if it didn’t have the trans issue, it obviously would have done far better, and I think a Top 5 in the GTE class wouldn’t be out of the question.
Overall, with a better driver lineup (JJ is a fantastic driver, but for endurance racing, there could be a better driver in that spot.), and if they actually tried (Hendrick and NASCAR made it clear it was more of a testing situation, not really to compete), then it would have given serious problems for the GTE cars. We won’t even talk about the driver limitations in GTE Am versus 3 world champions. Okay, a great publicity move for both venues, but that’s all it was. I’m pretty sure nascars need to turn, so not following that line of thought. But it’s hardly lightly modified. They had zero regs to follow. GTE Am cars are 500-600 hp, and this was a modified engine 700+ hp car, with new brakes, new aero, new fuel cell, new… And no ballast, which winning GTE am cars are forced to carry. So yeah…no. Garage 56 was not eligble to win any class victories. They where only allowed to partake.
Nascar will never win Le Mans .. The style of racing is very very different. All Nascar is high speed bumper car racing. Nascar requires taking out your opposition by wrecking them to win. Stoppign and start over and over again is part and parcel of Nascar. Nascar drivers do not have the skill to over take cleanly. It must have been quiet an eye opener to the team drivers of the nascar to be allowed to driver with out hinderance form other cars. They are used to underhand rubbing aka bumping (bumper car racing skill first learned at the fair ground ride called bumper cars) to take out a more skilled driver to win. The skill in nascar is to how to do this effectively to win. You do not see the huge catchment fences to protect the fan from such tactics where high speed wrecking is part of the race. At Le Mans .. that because bumping is frowned upon as its considered underhanded and therefore lacks the skill and grace to overtake with out interference.
Pure racing skill with clean over taking is a different breed of driver.
Doing that is something alien to nascar drivers. They only would win is nascar rules about bumping where allowed. 24 hours with out deliberate bumping is asking to much from a nascar driver.
Having said all that. A 24 hour nascar race under nascar rules with the winning car doing the most milage wins. Would be an entertaining weekend to watch but a nightmare for safety crew..
