I always clean as soon as the food comes off my griddle, just easier. I also use a squirt bottle of hot water :)

All great tips, Neal! I love cleaning my griddle and doing it immediately. I find it a little therapeutic. I'm totally fine with my food being room temp or a little warmer. I'm not gonna try to eat food that's gonna burn my mouth. Fantastic video my friend. 👍

I always "Clean as I Go" and I would bet you could not wait to do this video to clean your griddle as you do the same. Reminds me of that famous Navy Slogan, the one that says "It's not just a job, it's an adventure" so important for the mind set in the Navy, but it can be applied to so many other areas. The satisfaction and gratification that comes with cleaning the griddle right away is the way to go to me. I know for the purpose of this video you let it sit there dirty but great job on the video instructions of how to clean it properly when it comes to sticky, on the sugary honey side of food cooked on the griddle. With that being said I would have ended this video with "Now that the griddle is clean I'm hungry, let's cook something" Great Job!

Happy New to you both! While "clean as you go" is the most advantageous way to treat your "flat top friend", I think you'll agree that there are just some foods and/or circumstances where it's not easy to do. Sometimes you just have to eat before the food goes cold, or the guests devour it all! It's great that you've shared the two scenarios, and folks are now knowledgeable on how to treat the clean up in both cases. Thanks for all you both do!

Always, always a good reminder and a super visual of how to clean the griddle. Heat is the critical component, with the judicious use of water as you point out. But this really speaks to "clean as you go" which is one of the first things I learned and always employ from your videos. I do have silicone griddle gloves as I seem to always touch the sides and they work.

I work with a lot of Thai Sweet Chili sauce, BBQ, sauces, etc...
An effective way to clean my Adventure Ready 22" Griddle with deep fryer combo is to lay 2 paper towels on the griddle, saturate with water, close the lid and fry the towels, creating a ton on steam. While the towels are hot & steamy, I use one of my Blackstone spatulas to fold the towels, and scrape the surface. fold the towels, toss in trash. When the griddle is cool'ish... I oil it with EVOO, then burn it off.
Works well for my smaller griddle👍
Started using a flat-top at 14 years old... 57 now
EDIT: when I strip my griddle, I use the lava grill brick I picked up from restaurant supply house, then I re-season the flap-top. The lava brick is cheap and lasts forever!

Small amounts...I like to think of taking the griddle into 4 sections....and careful not to over water...you can always add more to a section...and lastly...allow the griddle to cool some...no need to add water when the griddle is 550 degrees...
