    I'm a died in the wool Aussie fan but I would early love to see Test matches become the struggle I remember from my young days, when an England team was something to be respected and feared. I love International games and would love to see them become competitive again.

      Peter Callaghan yeah internationals are pretty lame, now and again the kiwis can put a good side together, but australia 90% of the time are to strong. They need to itroduce a couple of english sides to the nrl, and a french side. Then the internationals would be world class

      Peter Callaghan Hopefully they put a Super League team in NYC and then it expands more into the US and Canada like the Toronto Wolfpack did. I’d like to throw the US in the mix! 🇺🇸🏉

      As a pom from Wigan , I grew up watching these proper test matches, although I thought we put up a good show during the 2017 world cup maybe the gap is closing again

      I think there are plans for a 3 Test Match series between GB and Aus?

      @darren knight From about 1920 through to the middle '70's. Pommie football dropped off in the early 80's and it's still recovering.
      Have a look at footage from the 60-70's, they just bashed us off the park.

    Don't know how that Robinson try wasn't given, it took a bit but he clearly got it down over his shoulder. Hard to believe it's 17 years ago now since this game.

    Paul Newlove was a good try scoring centre, I think he still holds the most super league tries in a season for a centre, as a saints fan I reckon he was the star of the team in the 90s

    Good game, no professional fouls, holding down etc, no nasty stuff ,just 2 good teams playing rugby.

    This was my first Rugby game I ever went to with my dad. I was 10 years old and can still remember it like it was yesterday, probably the most memorable game I ever attended.
    After this game I had a weird obsession with Paul Newlove and still idolize Jason Robinson.

    I'm an Aussie but I always feel for the Poms. So close, so often. Think back to the Second Test in 1990, Mal Meninga's try. I love playing and beating NZ but beating GB is so much sweeter. Would love to see GB start dominating Rugby League again; would be great for international footy.

    You mean the most populous parts of Australia, NSW and QLD. V's 3 Northern English counties. Supplied by small towns such as St Helens, Wigan and Widnes as opposed to large world cities such as Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra.

    @nightside242 so you think by fixing this england will be able to emulate the aussies?

  • @dengtui
    @dengtui 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The whole Kiwi side play in the NRL so they are getting quality footy every weekend, the Poms aren't. The Kiwi's have always been good at putting together a fairly strong 17 which can beat anyone on their day e.g. Marshall, Johnson and Luke. As of next year you can throw SBW into the mix and they will have a bloody good side.

    I am surprised not as many people have watched this today, before the opening RLWC '13 game Is there a possibility of a similar performance at the Millenium stadium tonight? I don't think so but I can only hope as a NZ supporter. I would love to flog the Aussies in the Semis at Wembley before we crush the Poms at Old Trafford.

  • @rebanx1
    @rebanx1 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    mate...I hear what your saying...what I cant understand is how the Aussies and GB managed to lose a couple of tri-nations and a World Cup to the Kiwis recently..considering the huge player numbers and depth in both GB and Aust. ...NZ has a fraction of the player pool and yet get up and win the big one....any thoughts?

  • @terrortorn

    I didn't say it wasn't. I'm pretty certain it is played by 10x more people in OZ, I'm British.

    Is Canberra as small as Castleford, Featherstone, Widnes, Wigan, St Helens, Wakefield,...... You realise that Saints, Wigan, Widnes, and Warrington have within 30 miles 4 Football clubs that have a larger weekly attraction of fans than the entire AFL in Australia. Like I said Lancs and Yorks v Australia.

  • @terrortorn
    @terrortorn 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    is concerned those small English clubs are dwarfed by the size and publicity created around football in the RL heartland. Something no Australian RL club has in opposition. So when it comes to the pool of players and pool of support I'm sorry it is Lancs and Yorks v Australia. QLD and NSW are not accurate direct comparisons.

  • @terrortorn
    @terrortorn 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well you have to talk about equivalents because British and Australia RL are not equal variables. NSW and QLD contain more than half the total population of Australia. RL in Australia is competing to be the premier national sport with AFL and competes well. Yorks and Lancs do not show the same criteria in Britain. RL in Lancs and Yorks is the dominant sport in only those towns that have clubs and supported without national media acceptance and schools backing.

      Robinson did get downward presure so it evened out...

  • @terrortorn
    @terrortorn 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Rugby League has little or no presence in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and at least 70% of England. So that is 90% of Britain that has no RL presence. And in the other 10% it is ignored by 99% of the media. So like I said Lancs and Yorks v Australia. Or rather parts of Leeds, St Helens, Wigan and Warrington and Hull v Australia. And that goes for British and English representation. So i don't see how your double standards come into it. RL in 2 states v RL in 2 counties is not the same.

  • @terrortorn

    Lancashire, Yorkshire and Cumbria beat Australia.

    Tim brasher had a bad game... came up with some 2 or 3 bad errors

  • @terrortorn
    @terrortorn 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    No its not. NSW and QLD are the most populous parts of Australia a country with the majority of it's land mass uninhabited and RL is a bonafide major sport in Australia with all the privileges that go with it. You can't mention NSW and QLD as if they are merely an equivalent 2 "counties" compared to Lancs And Yorks and that RL is of equal status. You also can't make a case for the small number of amateur clubs that are spread nationally. And as far as competition is concerned from other sports..
