Oh give over…England has an amazing squad…Southgates been lucky, his selection has been terrible.
If you're as old as me, you'll understand when i say that an England team in a major tournament coming back from behind to win on three separate occasions, and scoring every single penalty in a tournament, including during a shoot out where our keeper got a save, is genuinely hard to wrap my mind around. Say what you like about Southgate, but the mentality he has built in this team is an absolute revolution.
I dunno if I'm as old as you, but I'm old enough to have watched Lineker and Gazza at Italia 90 and I wholeheartedly agree, I can't quite believe that it's England doing this.
As for Southgate, even when we weren't playing well I was defending him. He was already the most successful England manager of all time before this Euros, having won the most competitive matches and doing so in a much more competitive era than when we won back in 1966, we didn't even make the semi-final in 1970. The man understands how to win tournament matches, he doesn't care if it's pretty, he wants to win and he wins more than anyone else who's had the job.

Well said. Group mentality is half the battle in international football. The margins are small as well and we need to remember our history. Even in two tournaments we all remember fondly, we weren't great:
In Italia 90, we started with two draws, edged past Egypt, needed a wonder goal in the last minute of extra time, squeezed past Cameroon with two pens and then lost on pens in the semis.
In Euro 96, we drew against the Swiss, won on pens in the quarters and lost on pens in the semis.
We just don't have a record of winning tons of games and scoring tons of goals. At least now we are making it through.

I'm 47,and these last few tournaments since this man took over have been amazing, win or lose on Sunday,and any football fan knows a final can go either way,but Southgate should get our respect and thanks no matter the result,I remember the times of getting knocked out early or not qualifying at all,so thanks for making it enjoyable Southgate lad

I’m a British-born citizen of Moroccan heritage. I’m currently on holiday in Morocco to see my family. I support both England and Morocco equally. I brought my England shirt with me just for the games. I watched this one in a cafe in Morocco with my friend and all the waiters were rooting England on. When we won we were all screaming and shouting in joy! The waiters gave me a free large cappuccino to congratulate me!

Jordan played well in goal. He has finally stopped punting long balls to rivals & was calm today.
Foden & Kane played well, but their energy faded again & will need to be subbed again at 60 mins in the final. Bringing Trent on at 60 mins for Foden & Ivan or Ollie for Harry (is what the Maths Profs want based on thier formula).

I was a Southgate critic. But after that match. I eat my words. That was a managerial masterclass. And against a big team in the semi final. Hats off to you Southgate. Tactically spot on in the first half. Midway through the second half the Dutch were getting back into it. Made the necessary changes and won us the game. Well done Southgate. That was your best performance as England manager.

He was very good but he wasn't tearing the Dutch a new one over and over like Foden was. Foden was shredding them first half, one of the great midfield performances of recent times in this tournament.

@SamLewis-ey1cx specifically, he didn't run everything. If he was as good as Foden in his deeper position, great. Foden was killing them in the final third where England struggled most in the tournament. Foden's work was relentless, wave after wave. It didn't come in flashes here and there.
Time to give this man his flowers. Even if we don't win it on Sunday - he has made England tournaments exciting and brought us back to back finals in the Euros. I really hope this is our time.

90% of the games played by england are fkn terrible to watch. Stop rimming him & that team for scraping by. England have been incredibly lucky to get through to the final consodering they've TERRIBLE. We've scumbagged wins with like 1/2shots on target in multiple games-those being the goals) and with som decisions going our way. The football isnt sustainable and if they lose in the final...then theyve lost and it doesnt matter. They wouldnt of deserved it anyways. The reason this puff has stayed in charge so long is because of people that accept mediocrity and thats why we'll stay as a small footballing nation to win nothing and why we are going into the final as the fkn underdogs 😂if the football was any good and showed real conviction/metal & LEVELS then we'd be going in as the favourites or as equals. The football hasnt improved under southgate and he's always played favourites.
Exciting? I grew up watching England. I remember Mexico 86. Italia 90. France 98. These were important periods of my childhood; i loved watching England, even if/when we got knocked out. England under Southgate has been one of the most frustrating, boring, difficult to watch periods I’ve ever had as a fan. Exciting? GTFO. Credit where its due; we’re in another final, but to suggest for a second that we’ve performed well for more than a game here or there throughout his entire tenure is a massive rewriting of history.

Southgate so far made great records 2018 WC->first semi final in decades 2021 Euro->first final in Euro euro 2024-> first final in Euro when away from England. Give this guy some respect I am not even English.
He took 1 natural left back which was injured and unfit and played Trippier out of position which has been the weak point so far (according to the media as he doesn't provide balance). He doesn't take Kane off until the 80th minute (ish) even though he's never in the box as a striker but playing a very wide crossing attack. He hasn't started Palmer once after his insane season. Keeps Bellingham playing when other than the overhead kick he's acted like a petulant child when he doesn't get the ball.
Second euros final in history for us, can't argue with that. Now we just need to win the thing.

Sometimes you just need to gamble in that position and tried to take a shot. Most strikers will just cut back and look for a pass, is 90+mins, just take a shot and things might happen.

England 🏴 has not played the best football especially at the start of the tournament, but there seems to be something special and a unstoppable force pushing them forwards. No matter what people say England have been clinical with their chances, unlike France lucky or not we r in the final.
Gareth has the hardest job and no matter the result, managers will always face criticism early in convincing or not he has got the job done and that’s all people care about and remember. It’s easy to say what you would do from the outside. He is a defensive minded manager and was as a player.
Spain have been convincing and flamboyant and exiting but do not have the morale and motivation of England. England believe they can always find a way and want revenge and justice for the last euros.
I think England can win it and should not be counted out they are the ones now with less pressure and feel the consistent improvement every game.
Everyone is now blessing Gareth and backing him, when before they were calling him to be sacked mid tournament and had no support or belief. He has proved everyone wrong and we take him for granted he will be hugely missed when he is gone.

Hats off to the man, don’t always like some performances but his record is great and the team spirit is the best I’ve seen for a national team.
Irrespective of what happens on Sunday, Gareth and the players can be proud. Last night was the first time I remember watching England in a match where they went behind and being totally relaxed and thinking "we can totally get back into this".
Mainoo was just insane all game. What a talent
Foden was brilliant, his performance first half with kobbie finding him felt natural and Bellingham even passed to Foden more in this game than the rest of the Tournament. Kane did ok first half but let’s be serious here, he made England look better when he moved over to the wing and was not having any involvement with the play. Once Kane moved out, Foden moved in, and it had nothing to do with Kane moving defence around. Foden is a ball receiver and link up play player who needs men around him who have speed of though and class touches, give and goes. We need to find a way to give kobbie the ball to link up with Foden. Kane isn’t making runs to connect to Sakas cutbacks and that is a tactical flaw that we must fix for final. The solution is to start Kane and focus attacks from wide and find a goal early from Saka. The 2nd half you need to bring on Watkins at half time but not Palmer until 75th min. This way you can link up kobbie to Foden to Watkins. Palmer comes on fresh legs to add more pressure in same mindset. The penalty we won was luck. We got lucky, Southgate did well with subs
How Southgate explained changing tactics to adapt to Holland‘s constant changes was very impressive… Some managers wouldn’t have even noticed or made the multiple changes, thinking very quickly… that kept us in the game and then the subs won us the game. Great performance from Team and manager. I’m 43 and trust me I’ve seen tournament after tournament of the golden generation, never get anywhere near a final and always bottle it in the big moments (pens, how poor were they at pens, we’ve won 3 out of 4 under SG). This team doesn’t bottle anything.

We need Kane to hold the ball up to start with. Plus chances will be limited. Bring Watkins on earlier though if we want to win
he doesnt fit the game plan that has kept us undefeated and only conceding 3 over 6 games. He comes in, later in the game, when they need to change the style to adapt to the evolving match. Southgate will prove once more, why he shouldnt start with toney or watkins, when he starts with kane on sunday, and we win the euros.

Because we have every right to be "negative". A loss is a loss..it doesn't matter far you go in tournaments if you're scumbagging your way through NOT PLAYING GOOD FOOTBALL! We should be going in as equals or favourites but nope..the football has not improved under southgate and this tournament is a prime example of how trash england are and how lucky they can be especially when you have SG playing favourites. Getting to the final this way is disgraceful if you have any self respect. Noone wants to see this puff anymore when he just plays defensive negative football, picks favourites without fail and has showed no metal since he took the job. Hes a people pleaser...not a coach.
Where do England fans get this idea that should be seen as favourites or spoken on the same breath as spain ,france , Germany and actual euro and word cup winners ?How delusional can you be ?If England goes to a semi final or even a final which was very very lucky that’s your equivalent of winning a trophy .
What I’ve loved so much about this team is that we haven’t just relied on one player to always get us over the line. In the Slovakia game we had that stunning goal from Bellingham in the dying seconds and Tony’s impact despite coming on so late. In the Switzerland game we had Saka’s world class performance, Pickford’s penalty save and top class penalties from all of England’s spot kickers. Against the Netherlands we had Mainoo’s fantastic performance and Ollie Watkins and Palmer proving the strength we have on our bench. What’s more Guehi who has arguably been England’s player of the tournament in my opinion. This isn’t just a team with one or two world class players but a team filled with talent who are capable of producing brilliant individual moments when it matters. Watching this team start shaky but slowly come together as a team over the course of this tournament has been frustrating yet beautiful to watch. Southgate also deserves the credit he’s been long overdue. Let’s just hope some of the fickle fans don’t turn on him again whatever the outcome is on Sunday.

England has never beaten any previous world cup winners when they didn’t host the tournament outside of Euro 2000 Germany and 2002 WC Argentina. Southgate had his chance in the 2022 wc vs france and bottled it. Until he changes this stat no one will remember him for reaching the euro 2024 final
