Bulls vs Heat 1997 - Game 5 - Michael Jordan 28 points

  • This was personal.
MJ came out with guns blazing, finished with 28 points and the Bulls closed out the Heat in game five of the Eastern Conference Finals, 100-87.
Still not a great shooting performance for MJ - he hit just 11 of 31 shots. But with Scottie Pippen out for most of the game with a foot injury and with all the hype around the game, Jordan admitted to pressing things a little and trying to do too much.
Nonetheless, the Bulls got a solid team effort and earned a spot in the NBA Finals for the fifth time in seven years.
The Utah Jazz would join them after beating Houston in the Western Conference Finals.

The Bulls had players who knew and accepted their roles. Just look at the contributions from Kerr and Buechler in this game. No ego from those guys, just a desire to contribute and win.

1st! haha sick dunk at 1:37, the man was 34 years old and could still throw down the double clutch dunk with ease. And that shot at 2:00 was beautiful - driving to his left, he stopped on a dime, gave a few pump fakes, and drains a shot falling backwards towards his left side - with a defender draped over him. GOAT

When the Bulls 96-98 came out in a playoff game in full-court pressure mode to start a game then you knew they weren’t playing around they were ending this tonight. They usually saved the full-court pressure for start of 2nd half to blow a game open.

      @AlamoPatriot 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

***** Very true. In 1992, the Jazz also had a shot at playing the Bulls but lost in the Western Finals to Clyde Drexler and the Portland Trailblazers. That would have been awful for the Jazz if they had lost 4 times to the Bulls in the finals. They'd be the Buffalo Bills of the NBA.

Those Air Jordan 12's that Michael wore during that 96/97 campaign sometimes even made HIM look as he was not 100% comfortable in those shoes. Some of his moves in that season were not as round as we are used to see it from him. Look at his feet/legs as he is going for the first slam set up by Harper at 01:47

The Bulls would've had a hell of a time trying to contain Hakeem. There's no way it would've been as easy as you're making it out to be. If the Jazz and Sonics could push the Bulls to 6 games, then I think the Rockets could have done so as well, if not 7 games.

It’s pretty bad tbat in game 4 the only way to win by a few points is when Jordan literally beat himself in the first 3 quarters and still scored in the mid-high 20’s.
He scored nearly 30 here and I looked at the title of the video and was like “so MJ had an off night”... for most that’s a great scoring night, MJ is that good where he expect anywhere between high 30’s-50’s, especially in the playoffs and finals where he became even more dominate than usual the majority of the time

Jud Buechler was a garbage time player not even a real rotation player but came in and did his job. A lot of today’s players don’t know how to play a role so never even become that in the nba. All this “todays player is more talented” just isn’t true they are more athletic and far less talented.

No disrespect to the Heat, but I kind of wish that it had been the Knicks against the Bulls in the 97 conference finals. I don't know who would've won, but seeing as the Bulls wrapped the Heat up in five games I think a New York-Chicago series would've been much more competitive; just to throw out a guess maybe Bulls in six or Knicks in seven

Miami didnt belong here. The knicks were more talented, and would have given the bulls a better series.

More like an EPIC FAIL for Chicago. Rose was amazing, but the rest of the guys were inconsistent and ineffective in the final minutes.

While I'd agree that he was generally arrogant and an asshole, if you're referring to the pregame.. Miami was very dirty throughout the series

+Dean Rockwell It was his way of playing mind games. At that point, Jordan believed that Mourning was the type of player who folded in big situations and in an elimination game, it was a big situation for the Heat. Jordan was focused on one thing on the court: winning.

WTF you mean, no class? Jordan had more class than ANY player today. They don't even look or act professional now. He never publicly threw his teammates or coaches under the bus. He even stood up for Allen Iverson when the media tried to railroad him. Nowadays players look like tatted up thugs and can't even talk properly. Plus they dress gay af.
