    Just took my 2024 Outback Wilderness from Western NY to Leesburg Va. Then to Perth ,New Jersey and Back to Virginia and back to WNY. Super Highway Driving on NJ turnpike at 85 mph. I can't say enough how well CVT Ran and When I needed to pass at 85 mph- turbo and CVT took me to 96 in an instant. god damn invigorating. Cruised home through Heart of Pennsylvania mountains in the bad weather all the East was getting last week and I cruised at 72 and passed everything in site. The Subaru suspension was true and stable No matter the road conditions. I can't say enough of my experience with my First Subaru 2024 LEASE - A absolute Beast with very good gas mileage too.

    I bought my 2023 Outback Limited in April, already have 18,000 miles on it due to two road trips... from Minnesota to Texas and back, and Minnesota to New England, North Carolina, Arkansas and home. Fantastic road trip car! There were maybe 5 moments i wished i had the turbo... but otherwise the 2.5 did well.

    I took my 2024 OBW to Utah for er 1st road trip. Visited the mighty 5 National Parks on this trip. No issues with the car at all. I was very comfortable while driving the car and cozy sleeping in the back. Drove over some dirt roads with no problem. Enjoy your ride.

      My Forester Touring is in the shop for a warranty repair.
      Subaru of Spokane (WA) gave us an OBW Wilderness.
      We had a family emergency in Montana (12 hour drive 1 way from our house). So naturally we drove the Loaner Subie instead of taking my wife’s OBW.
      I was so impressed by how quickly it gets to 100mph.
      But I’m very unimpressed by the fuel economy. In Montana the speed limit is 80, so I had the cruise set on 85mph. We got only 24mpg.
      Now that we’re back home and I’m driving only 65mph with the cruise set, I’m only getting 25mpg and when I’m driving combined, City /Highway, I’m only getting 20mpg.
      I’ll be glad to get my Forester back. Combination mileage is 24mpg and 29mpg highway.
      I’m glad that you had such a wonderful vacation.

    Thank you for the notes about the hot weather and the CVT and giving it a break. I noticed the oil temp up in the 215 area quite a bit. Will keep an eye on that...

      You absolutely don’t need to give it a break. It works perfectly, no matter what the temperature or how hard you are driving it…never had a high temp even driving in really hot weather for over 10 hours

    It still amazes me that you’re getting such awesome fuel mileage.
    From Spokane to Wenatchee, which is mostly flat, we only got 24mpg. For the most part I had the cruise set on 78mph.
    We live 25 miles from Wenatchee towards Leavenworth. We drive highway 2 into Wenatchee and keep our loaner Wilderness on 65mph.
    Our combined highway and city mileage is only 20mpg.
    I’m glad you and your wife had a nice vacation.

    Nice update on your road trip! I don't usually keep an eye on the oil temperature, so your video is a good reminder to do so. For changing the oil, I've bought the ValvoMax oil drain valve to make changing oil a lot less messy. I used to hate changing my own oil and filter, but with the ValvoMax and with the oil filter on top of the engine for easy access, changing the oil and filter is pretty easy now.

    I did add liqui moly ceratec and it seems to have improved the mpg a fair bit. Oil temp never goes over 102 c unless you’re really giving it the boot and that was hot temps in the mid 30 c

    Thank you for this content and channel. Will be buying a new car o/a September. The contenders: Mazda CX5 or CX50 Turbos, Subaru Forrester Touring or Outback XT. I do a 4K mile road trip every summer from San Antonio TX to NY, NJ, CT to see family, an Army buddy, etc. My drive is an ‘06 bmw 525i which is quiet, comfortable, and powerful (N52 in-line 6/32 MPG hwy)Twin grandsons will inherit the machine when I drop it off in August. When you mentioned about the CVT having a brief heart murmur and oil temps fluctuating, I became sad because the Outback XT is a gorgeous & capable car. I’ll probably go Mazda while preoccupied thinking about the Outback. 73 yrs old.

      Do yourself a favour and get the outback XT . There is absolutely no issue with the transmission or the oil temp. It’s perfectly normal that it goes up under hard acceleration. Every single car does… It runs full synthetic oil , for a reason, Subarus are legendary with their reliability I have had six, and this one is no different.

    Now have around 24k on my 2022 Outback LMT non turbo. Get around 33mpg on highway and 26/28 in the city. On interstate and country roads use the Cruise Control and Lane Centering all the time.... No it's not totally hands free, every 15 seconds or so have to "jiggle" the steering wheel so subie doesn't yell at you to keep your hands on the wheel.... lane centering works quite well, but I don't engage it on really curvy roads, because I like arriving at my destination in one piece..... The ride is very comfortable, noise level is very acceptable. It's a NA engine, non turbo, and rarely wish it was turbo.... and I do appreciate the 3-4 MPG gain with the non turbo all the time, while only once in a while miss a turbo. I like the car and intend to keep it for awhile.....

    You get bonus points for playing Phil Wickham on your trip. I’ll be car shopping soon but haven’t been able to test drive anything yet. I’ve driven my sister’s Subaru Ascent, which I think is fairly comparable. I believe hers has turbo, though, while I’m looking at the Outback Onyx without turbo for the cheaper price. I’ve been looking into the Mazda CX-50 and Honda CR-V as well. Hoping to get a feel for all of them soon.

    We had our 23 OBW out from MN to CO and back this summer, about 3400 miles total. It did great pulling in 27MPG overall for the trip. We did experience a few times in the mountains when our oil temp hit 233 or so for a few minutes while climbing but it always went back down to the low 200's.
    One thing I noticed in the video was AA's ability to pass traffic and the OB holding the revs around 3,500. Mine will never do that and I wish it would. If I give mine some gradual throttle it'll rev to like 3K RPM's and if I give it any more it'll then switch into fake, jerky 8 speed shift mode and rev out to pass. It's kind of annoying.

    How was your experience with steering assist and lane centering? Was it reliable enough?

    • @AutomotiveAnonymous208
      @AutomotiveAnonymous208  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Overall the system works pretty well, but never take your hands off the wheel or over trust the system. It has its moments where it can abruptly over correct and toss you out of your lane (if you let it). Not often, but not exceptionally rare either, at least in my own experience. Best of luck! 🙂

      That sounds scary. Is it easy to take back control when that happens? I have read on reddit that driver has to fight the system torque on the steering to take back control.

    • @AutomotiveAnonymous208
      @AutomotiveAnonymous208  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think that depends on who you ask. I can only speak for my own experiences. I don’t think it’s super bad, but I also only trust the system to a certain degree. Also, in the past I’ve had a good sense of when it’s having a moment like that and acting up. I don’t think it’s ever pushed me out of the lane, but because the steering ratio does seem sensitive on Subarus at highway/interstate speeds, it really doesn’t take much more than a few degree rotation of the steering wheel to immediately change its course of direction and not feel pleasant. Theres been very few times that I’ve just turned off the lane keep assist to not deal with that problem. And honestly I don’t know if other vehicles this competes with have a better or worse system to these occasional hiccups as I’m mainly a Subaru driver these days. I would say 90% of the time this system does quite well, but it’s an “assist” system and not autonomous steering for sure. 😬🙂

    • @jupitersydney3555
      @jupitersydney3555 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It’s soo good ! Way better than my 7 series BMW. You just need to touch the steering wheel, every 10 to 15 seconds with your thumb with a slight wiggle it stays in its lane perfectly, unless you are going through an intersection with no Lane markings.

    • @AutomotiveAnonymous208
