I see these 2nd gen rams everywhere. They might be aesthetically destroyed, rusted to the bone, but they still run. I don't see many Fords or chevys of the same era still running.

I love my old Dodge trucks. I know their limitations, and appreciate their strengths. I dont have wrong expectations. Bad gas mileage, and they are built for low end torque and not speed so much. They are built like tanks tho, and will run for ever with minimum maintenence. Fix your truck, its cheaper than buying a new one.

You should qualify your video as 2nd gen Ram V8. My 2002 3500 Cummins is by far the best truck I have ever owned. I took advice of old truck driver and kept the RPMs between 1700 and 2300 for the first 50K. I haul heavy oil tools, up and down CA freeways, have 240K miles on it, and get 18 MPG at 70 mph, and 22 MPG at 55 mph. Its been upgraded with 2018 bumper, JVC touch screen, LED lights, Alcoa rims, Killmat, etc. I love it, and I believe it will go 500K EASY!

Geno's does their solution to save removing the entire dash. You probably won't ever pull the entire dash with a gasser so an LMC product won't get the solution you want anyway. Don't bash Geno's just because you didn't want to do the work to pull the whole dash. I will say the lmc dash is better, but you have to do the extra time to get the factory result you are looking for. Geno's has a lot of great products for these trucks. One disappointment does not make a bad company.

This is a pretty nice, honest review. I got a 02 1500, the first year of the 3rd gen and it has pretty much all of the same problems minus the back seat space. Front end is slowly deteriorating, rust, shit dash, bad a/c unit, and crap mileage. Still love it to death, the 5 speed is a joy all the time.

I purchased my dash cover for my 97 from LMC. It fit perfect. 2 words of warning- Its almost an all day job to do it correctly. You have to remove the entire dash assembly to R&R the dash vents from the underside. Also, dont overtighten the screws that secure the new dash. Just snug them up enough to prevent rattles. The old dash's always crack at some point around the mounting screws at the bottom of the windshield. Plastic needs to expand and contract. If it cant it cracks. Oh, and for the gas mileage issue, I can squeak out 14mpg, but it's probably so poor because the truck weighs 5.600 lbs. My biggest issue is rust. On a quiet night you can hear it rotting away!

@@MrCarlosj0 I pulled the intake and replaced the faulty gasket last week. Also found a couple small issues that I took care of while I was into it.Finished it up and started it on friday, 4/24. No issues as yet. I was amazed at how much better my motor is running. Stronger, smoother, even upped my oil pressure by about 10# at idle. Of course the oil pressure increase could be related to me changing the oil with a 'high mileage oil after running the trruck around for a couple days. The leaky gasket was definatly the high oil consumpion reason as its been over a week now and the oil level has not moved! I have noticed improved low end torque. Haven't cheecked my fuel mileage yet as I got my hands on a set of 265-70 R17 tires and wheels, much larger than the factory sized 225-75 R16. Going to figure it out soon. The larger tires gives about a 3.1 percent difference in my speedometer reading. Been driving using my cell phone GPS app for accurate speed. When my speedometer shows 65 mph, the truck is actually at 71mph...I got inspired by how good it runs now that I've decided to put a cat-back dual exhaust amd have ordered a cold air intake filter system for it... It lives once again, lol.....good luck to you on your truck, hope it all goes smooth........the gasket that I was interested in looking at was rotten, broken and many pieces oof it was laying in the valve galley of the block. Still cant believe how good its running and with 186K+ on the odometer...

And a lifted truck is more likely to go offroad which causes even more issues. Seriously, if you don't plan on muddin, dont bother. Not worth it for cosmetics. A lift done on the cheap will take it's toll on driveline and suspension components and you'll be sorry!

The first point was not odd, I'd slap the shit out of the previous owner of my third gen hemi... This guy literally ran the truck into the ground and then sold it and apparently the dealership said he was starting a family and it wasn't a family friendly vehicle. Lol I call bs, it was falling apart and he got rid of it and made up some "sad" story.
The trucks ball joints (all 4) needed to be replaced, sway bar links, track bar, steering damper, literally everything in the front end suspension, u joints on the axle, front, and rear driveshafts, new ball joint on the double cardan joint, brake pads were so bad the rotors were already getting ground down so new pads and rotors, two new brake calipers because the other ones were seized, new o2 sensors because the truck was throwing codes saying they were shot, his freaking exaust pipes coming from the engine weren't even connected to the rest of the exhaust system... Bolts on it were broken way up near the front driveshaft, new spark plugs and boots, the boots were literally melted onto the top of the old spark plugs. For crying out loud the spark plugs were easier to remove than the boots. Spark plug gap should be .044, this dudes gaps were so worn out they were at .08. The storage under the rear seat was bouncing and clanging all over the place (put some self tapping screws in the hour after I got home with the truck when I bought it), and literally the easiest thing this guy could have done but didn't - change the air filter, nope he couldn't even do that so the truck ran like crap and wouldn't move unless you slammed on the pedal.
What he did do with the truck though, put a 3 inch coil lift in it, bilstein 5100s and 33s with Kmc rims. Basically all this guy did was make it look slightly more aggressive than stock and drove it into the ground. There was mud inside the fenders by the tail lights which basically shows me he treated the truck like a pos, so I literally hate a guy I've never met, don't even know his name, but I'd backhand the fuck outta him
