    ======================
    The Patriot is the poem about the change in fortunes of a person who has done very good deeds for his country and is welcomed like a hero. But a year later, because of some misdeeds, he is sentenced to death and is publicly executed.

      Icarus was the son of Dadalus, a great craftsman. They both were imprisoned. So as to escape prison, Dadalus made wings for his son and attached them to his back using wax. Dadalus warned Icarus to not go too near the sun but as the son was over ambitious, he went too near the sun. As a result the wax melted and he drowned to death by falling in the sea....

      The speaker wanted to convey the fact that he found his defeat as a victory. The Patriot said that what others believed to be his fall was actually a victory for him. He knew that he had stood by the right things irrespective of what the people thought of him.

    In the 5th stanza.....Can we say that the "RAIN" word here symbolises a number of aspects... Suppose The patriot gets wet by rain losing his dignity .
    It can also mean that the rain washed him clean representing his innocence
    OR
    It adds to the depressed mood and could be seen as a sign of the speaker's inner crisis and sadness.....????

      Well said. Glad to see a different perspective to this poetry. This indeed could be the essence of the poem, the patriot might himself be the cause of his own downfall.The poet has left the readers open to all sorts of comprehensions of his work. Poetry is a form of art and and everyone has the freedom to interpret it their own way. I feel overjoyed to see that there exist fellow students who truly appreciate literary aesthetics and not just consider it for academics. Continue feeling and living through this wonderful experience of literature.

      It has no deep meaning as such. It's just the patriot giving his view that the rope was tied much more tightly than it need to be, as in he "did not deserve" it. Infact, the rope was tied so tightly that both his hands got cut-off by it.

    • @alwaysfine8395
      @alwaysfine8395 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Well I think we should write something like: "it is not clearly mentioned in the poem but as far as the title is concerned we can assume he might be a leader or a solider or someone who has done something really like really great for the city/country"
      Different teachers teach with different point of views and that's where we get stuck in terms of exams
