      @MrMarinus18 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But also capitalism in it's pure form has actually never worked and when it's been tried it's been a complete and utter failure. Every capitalist success story is due to massive amounts of government involvement, regulations and investment. The idea you can "unleash" capitalists and they will create prosperity for you is a myth. If you want a well functioning economy you need to do the hard work of creating intelligent and effective regulations, subsidies, tariffs, decide what things to nationalize and what to privatize and where to spend money and in what way.

      I don't see the whole thing about treating capitalism as sacred to be a healthy thing. Capitalism is a good system of resource distribution but it's not a perfect system, it has flaws that we should account for and put in place systems to accommodate them.
      It really feels like for many on the right capitalism is a religion and that questioning it or pointing out areas where it doesn't work is like a personal attack on their faith.

      As long as you saw the danger afterwards and advocated in the general, no worries. "But her emails....." (not that you said this but since I am here I just want to get it off my chest), is a trash way to not take some responsibility for all of us being here if you thought Hillary did not deserve your vote or require it. The group of people who thought Bernie or Jill needed that write in in multiple states versus staving off the 1950's in the general, got the express train to the Bad Place. The only benefit to being here for the next now 30 plus years due to ideology of the people in power not giving it up in that time, is that now people throughout society are who they are, no filters, and feel that being the unmodulated person is acceptable. There is no being canceled or anything like that (because in my opinion, the idea of taking some rich person's money away does not solve any problem including the one of the above minimum wage manager fucking with the rest of his employees inappropriately but still does not get called out due to not being known or seen as much by others), but there is a public and very loud record so that one day when the reckoning comes, we will all know what is good. I think it's also important to remind people that pure capitalism has never worked, also not in the US. The US' industrial revolution had enormous government involvement, government set up a large number of companies, gave subsidies, invested into infastructure, took in massive migrants and moved them to industrial cities, even fought wars with Mexico for land and resources.
      The idea of the lone hard working pioneer is a myth. The US was a powerful country that expanded and invested and massively benefited from it. The westward expansion was driven by the federal government, tight local communities and the early megacorps. It was a very complex system with a lot of power players and a lot of politics involved.

It's pretty simple: Step 1) open the wikipedia page for capitalism and see the section on downsides/criticisms, Step 2) government should be working to avoid those downsides....Step 3) get money out of politics, but good luck on that ;)

    The greatest strength of Capitalism is competition driven innovation; when a single company gets too big, it's no longer motivated to compete, and innovation stalls.

    • @MrMarinus18
      @MrMarinus18 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Though even that is oversimplified. Innovation has usually come from the public sector, things like jet engines, the internet, microchips, medicine have all been made by public institutions and with public money.
      The US also isn't as capitalistic as it often likes to claim it is. The tech sector gets massive subsidies and benefits from huge publicly funded research. This is the reason the US was able to overtake Europe who did still to a pure capitalist mentality. But why would a tech company invest in Europe if they could get subsidies in the US and have the government do a lot of their investing for them? This is also why while Europe's tech lacked behind the Chinese rapidly caught up as they also invested massively into it.
      In terms of government spending relative to GDP the US is actually about the same as Sweden. Mostly carried by the massive tech subsidies and the military industrial complex.

    • @MrMarinus18
      @MrMarinus18 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The idea that a government can just sit back and private capitalists will do all the economic building for them has always been a myth. Every "capitalist" success from Germany, to South-Korea, to Britain to the US is a complex tale of subsidies, foreign capital, state institutions, state created enterprises, careful regulations, tariffs, forceful movement of people and more. The idea that you can just give the capitalists a bunch of money and they will make a prosperous economy has never been so.
      The Latin American countries have economies that are WAY more liberal than the US and their government spending relative to GDP is way lower but that hurts them. Their extreme liberalism means competition is stiffled and foreign companies rule and their lack of government spending means they have no domestic economy to pull on if things go badly. The problems with this were demonstrated very well by Venezuela which completely collapsed once it was boycotted by it's largest trading partner and the foreign investors left.

      Free market capitalism ruled by unmitigated greed eventually leads to what we have: a few controlling the many, socially & economically. We've tried Reagan's "trickle-down economics" for more than forty years, which has lead to rampant inequality, generational poverty & an exploding wealth gap between the top one percent & the rest of us. It will never happen, but imagine if we implemented a "trickle-up" policy, where the more you made the more you paid. The concept is moot, because the super-rich have too much control over a growing majority of both sides of the political & media aisles to ever allow it & thanks to growing capabilities in demographic targeting media manipulation & A-I, that level of control will only grow, making these kind of debates aspirational & academic at best.
