Haha, as I started into the video I pre-empted in my head exactly what you said about renting. I laugh these days when I read people say "why would you buy one when you can just rent one". Not a week goes by when I don't have some little job or other that my UHI digger assists me with and most of it I'd have never gone to all the trouble of driving into town, renting one and trailering it out here to do those things. My little UHI helps with even simple stuff like the other day when I had to move one of my lathes - drive digger into the shed, lift the lathe using slings and track it over to its new location, job done and no charge. Some days I even dig holes................

Using a digger to dig holes? Surely not, that'd be like using a smart phone to make a telephone call. People just don't do that now, do they? But you are right about owning one, I would really struggle now if I didn't have a little digger in my shed.

Good stuff Dave. I often think up jobs to do with my little digger but have to admit I never thought of breaking a pipe deep in the ground for an excuse to get the digger out. Obviously there's a lot of time involved in that job that the video doesn't show, so it's good you haven't got a hire machine there on an hourly rate. Many of those small diggers seem quite jerky but you operate that one nice and smoothly, good to watch. Cheers.

I have had to repair that water pipe now 4 times in the last year. When it went in they used the wrong packing sand around it and used a material with sharp edges that, over time, cuts through the pipe because (and I didn't know this) a plastic water pipe vibrates or pulses as water runs through it. Cheers Dave.

Thanks for the vid. Buying what effectively is a strong self propelled mechanical arm that is on call seems like a no brainer. However money is an issue in this land of high taxes and prices. I think I’ll try to save up for one of these machines. I’d imagine it would be very useful on a small farm.

Dave, Was that power running next to your water pip? That might be why it's so deep.

The white conduit next to the water pipe was the Telstra phone line Marty. Cheers Dave

I have had a ht10b sense 3/22. Compared to now.these things are cheap. The only major problem I had cost me 500.00 if it was a Kubota would have been more like 2500 to 5000. Depends on what parts was damaged. The part was swing motor gear fell off and caught on frame and broke housing..
In the long term it pays for it self. And if at end you can sell the machine. If you keep renting a machine your money is gone. Where I live they charge if you have it delivered.
Me I'm going to up grand my machine to a diggit em15 and sell my hightop ht10b
