Trip Report - 3 out of 5
The trail to the steamers is well worn and clearly visible as this hike has gain popularity in the past few years. A relatively short hike with gradual gradient for the first 1.5 km then a steep incline on loose scree for the next 500m before flattening out along the cliff base where you would pass a few caves, you then reach landslide which requires a bit of care when crossing. A short 15m scramble up and you are now within 600m from the Stern lookout.
In my personal opinion the views were just pretty average at best, unlike those seen on IG and other social media without the power of photo editing or those who camp overnight just to catch the sunrise/sunset using the sun as a beautiful back drop, there really nothing special about these views.
Conclusion
Taking in account the relatively short hike and long drive of 3.5 hours. I'm most certain that this is not a hike I will return to.
Distance: 9.6 km
Elevation: 585 m
Elapsed Time: 4 hours

Tofu, I was there on Saturday (09/09/2023), were you there on the same day? I would agree with your assessment, however we did not do just the Steamers - we also added Mt Steamer, and Lizard Point and that is a whole other ball game - a 9.5hour slog, that has far more elevation gain, distance, time taken, and generally left me with that 'I hurt everywhere' feeling for two days that a really good hike gives.
Hahhaa beast mode Darren, unfortunately we were there on Sunday last week. I understand lizard point has nice views as well however Mt steamer is a waste of time hahaha.
Oi!!! Don't you knock my Steamers! It's awesome, did you forget your glasses this time? Hahaha
ahhaha nope, I saw nothing special.. I think you should get out more if that is the best view in SEQ lol.
Could have been sleeping 🤣
You probably just flamed half the SEQ hiking community with that comment.
hahaha I had no sleep the night before, stayed up to watch the vuelta.
It definitely looks better after good amount of rain. Hiking from The Head Road entrance and hiking past Superbus & Lizard Point is a much better experience.
I have no doubt, the forest will come alive which will give it a better back drop :). Yes from Brett Rd, its 20km one way.. considering the drive was 3.5 hours one way, I think its too much of an effort :).
@@tofuhiker make it a weekender and do the full traverse !
@@tofuhiker We camped at the stern and woke up for a sunrise peek over the steamers
Spectacular views 😂😂
Each to their own lol.. overrated I tell you!
